Well I really enjoyed Ultimate Extinction #1. The only problem is that not alot happened in that first issue so it was kind of slow, but I just can't get me enough of Gah Lak Tus!
I am going to read #2 right now, so I suppose I will update later.

Please do. The first one was good, but it didn't seem to really go anywhere.

Well I just finished reading my new books.

Ultimate Extinction #2 was much of the same really. The real highlight for me was Captain America questioning his faith. Silver Surfer finally loses those ridiculous wings. But other than that, once again, there really isn't much happening. A lot of talking, with the exception of a few explosions caused by the Silver Surfer. And also, apparently Gah Lak Tus is actually a whole bunch of machines that look like the squid things from the Matrix. I will stick with it, apparently Ellis is trying to channel Bendis. haha

In other news, I really dug Ultimate X-Men, but that whole thing with Sabertooth being Wolverine's son??? Not too sure about that one.

Superman #226 was AMAZING!!! Gosh I loved it. I really like that old school feel. Seeing Supes, Wonder Woman, and Hawkman battling the Japanese during WWII was priceless!

Anyone read Ex-Machina by Vaughn? I am curious about it, so if anyone could help it'd be appreciated.

We discussed Ex Machina a bit in the I heart Brian K. Vaughn thread, and I'm sure it's been mentioned a few times before and since.

The short version is: it's great.

Great? In what sort of way? I mean what type of book is it?

Ex Machina is sort of a mix of political intrigue, drama, and superheroing. While there are fantastical elements, for the most part the book is more grounded in reality than your regular comic.

In case you don't know, the story revolves around Mitchell Hundred, a normal man who somehow gains the ability to communicate with and control all machinery and becomes the world's first superhero. He soon finds that superheroics don't work well in the real world and retires from crime-fighting to run for mayor of New York City. The story often flashes backward and forward between his time as a superhero and his current struggles as mayor.

What I find very interesting is that Mitchell Hundred was elected so quickly -- less than two months -- after he saved one of the WTC towers. Have they mentioned yet whether he was a write-in candidate? Based on most states' rules for getting on the ballot, I'd think he had to be.

Mitchell mentions to Wylie that after he reveals himself to the public he won't have any trouble getting the 7,500 signatures needed to run.

I figure if I stop watching TV I can read comics until I start drowning in them. I can't afford to, but I'd have the time.

WHOOOO! New Comic Saturday!

Hulk VS Wolverine 2 - Read it already, great art and a good story mechanism to get Banner to Tibet. It seems pretty shallow over all but I think there are some deeper plot points bubbling under in the writing.

The Exterminators 2 - I really enjoyed the first issue, crude, funny and quite visceral in parts, with a whole heap of plot lines to follow. Tony Moore's art is very nice too, characterisations are not quite my cup of tea but the backgrounds and locations are top notch.

Loveless 4 - Reading this next, fucking brilliant comic - if you have not read the previous issues yet, go and do it.

The Thing 4 - Had a flick through, looks like a good single issue story.

Ultimate Extinction 2 - 1st issue was O.K. I hope this gets better. Should do.

Book of Lost Souls 5 - This has taken a few issues to find it's stride ( No2 was very poor ) but I am really loving this book now. The art is amazing and the storylines have just got a lot darker. It's got a real 80's feel to it, I can only compare it to a dark comic twist on Highway to Heaven - sort of......Anyone else reading it??

picked up Lucifer #71 and the 15th(!) tpb of Blade of the Immortal.

next weeks a biggie with Y, Infinite Crisis, Nextwave and (fingers crossed) Ultimates 2 #10.

Yeah I am reading Book of Lost Souls and I really enjoy the hell out of it!
My week was an all Marvel week (which is unusual)

Ultimate Spider-Man #90 - finally Ultimate Vulture...kind of an average outing by BMB. That last gag was hilarious though.

Amazing Spider-Man #529 - New costume is lame...so Spidey is bullet proof now and can fly? No thank you, but I have my hopes high for Civil War.

Fantastic Four #535 - LOVE IT! I really love this current arc featuring the Hulk. The end had me laughing.

Captain America # 15 - Very little of Cap in this issue (and its only in flashback form) but this series is still very strong and it is a good stand alone issue to set up what is coming.

Yeah next week is big, the Infinite Crisis continues!!!!

Well it's been five months and |I finally emptied my file. |I'm only down to a few books now.

JSA
Godland
Daredevil
Justice
Jonah Hex

I'm trying to catch up. I loved the |Justice stuff, and am still liking My daredevil. for some odd reason I was missing Jonah Hex #2 and JSA # 81. WTF I'll have to go look for them.

I just saw SPOILER HEAVY previews of issue 2 or 3. gross.

Anybody else like this?

I've read the first issue, and I liked it. It's fun to see all your favorite Marvel heroes as evil flesh-munching zombies and an uninfected Magneto as the protagonist. And it's definitely got the "ick" factor, especially where
[SPOILERS]the heroes hunt down and rip apart Magneto, with Hulk downing one of Mag's legs whole only to revert back to Banner and have the undigested leg rip open his torso.[/SPOILERS]

Robert Kirman is a creatively disgusting genius (SPOILERISH):

If you like zombies and aren't squeamish (I kinda have an issue with the T+ rating, given the graphic ripping-apart and consumption of human flesh), I'd recommend it.

That pissed me off. Why? They bring back Silver Surfer for the first time since, well, since the cartoon was cancelled, and they have Wolverine kill him.

Silver Surfer is the best f*cking comic book character PERIOD.

Two problems with that statement.

1) Silver Surfer has had an ongoing series of his own in the last two years, and currently is being seen both in his own mini in Annihilation and fighting the Hulk in Planet Hulk.

2) Wolverine didn't even scratch Silver Surfer in that pic. He tries to claw him, and his entire arm skeleton is torn out.

Sorry, what I meant was that he had an ongoing during the last two years or so. It was cancelled a while back, but it wasn't that long ago. Ran a dozen issues or so. Sadly underapprecitated and critically ignored.

I enjoyed Ex Machina Special a great deal, but why were they Specials 1&2? They weren't specials in the normal sense. Shouldn't it have been designated as a microseries, with a title?

Not overwhelmed by Frontline. Will keep up with the main book so I have some idea what's going on, but that's all.

Hell.
Yeah.

Methinks Vaughan has a lot more up his sleeve. So many questions unanswered, so many storylines not yet explored.

Loved the radio interview, and the concept of Hundred's "opposite".

Great stuff.

Special 2 and #21 are both excellent. I love the balance Vaughan strikes between action and dialogue. For an adventure and fantasy junkie like me, I surprise myself that I pretty much prefer the political conversations and scenes more than the Great Machine episodes.

Sprouse and Story did a very good job on the special's artwork. Harris's visuals really define the title, but their style worked well. ( that may be something to do with Mettler's outstanding colours though ).

Smoke, smoke is going to be a taught story. Can't wait for #22.

Well I have read most of the books that were released this past week. Quick first impressions:

Amazing Spider-Man #533 - Pretty good. The phone conversation was pretty funny. It looks like CIVIL WAR is going to heat up.

Fantastic Four #538 - Lame. JMS needs to leave this title fast.

52 #8 - This book really frustrates me. Each issue is good. Not great, not bad, just good. It gets even better when you read them in a single sitting. When we really begin to get into the meat of this year (issue #25 or so) I bet things will begin to heat up. And in the end, I feel 52 will go down as a success.

With that in mind time to look towards the future. Here is a list of what is supposed to be shipping for July 5:

Sure you don't mean July 6? If your comic shop is anything like the ones around here, shipping gets held up for a day if there's a holiday before Wednesday...but maybe yours is cool like that.

Just writing what the website indicated. But I mean did you REALLY need to call me on that though? I mean was it bothering you that much, that you absolutely had to say something about it instead of...I don't know...adding something of worth to the conversation.

Sigh.

Actually, I really was curious if that delay in shipping happened all over the country, or if the shops around here are just lame like that.

But to add to the conversation, I'll be picking up Johah Hex, 52, the new Fables trade, FF First Family, Punisher, and MAYBE Detective and the new Atom.

FF First Family?

How has that series progressed? I read the first issue and I like the art...but felt the story was a bit lacking.

I am just curious if its worth my while or not.

Frankly, it's tapered off from the first couple of issues, IMO. Chalk it up to another mini-series that I got invested in early, and I keep buying it just to complete the story. Like last year's Ghost Rider.

Well, OK, not as big a letdown as Ghost Rider, but yawn-inducing nonetheless.

So, do your comics get delayed a day or what, bro?

Yeah I think Chicago Comics got delayed as well...but on their website it says "These comics will be released on Thursday, July 5". Well Thursday is July 6th, so I assume that is just a typo. Which is why my original post says July 5th.

Speaking of Ghost Rider...I am hoping the new on-going series is as good as I think it will be. The art looks splendid and it has potential.
