Cool pics Adam, Doom looks fairly good!

Johnny's fire effects look pretty decent too.

I just finished reading Ultimate FF #31...WOW that was a great read. I am actually really disappointed that Millar is leaving when he seems to really have found his groove. This book really needs to land a solid writer to stick with it...just when a writer gets comfortable their run is up...UFF needs to find its Bendis so to speak.

Looking forward to the conclusion.

I know the "so to speak" codicil makes this moot, but they had teh Bendis, and aside from the plotting (done by Millar), those issues blew like the solar wind.

I just meant that Bendis has been with Ultimate Spider-Man for close to 100 issues...he was able to find his groove and ride it out...all the writers for UFF haven't been able to hit that groove yet...and it seems that right as they are about too...they leave the book.

Imagine if Ellis was allowed to write 18-24 issues of Ultimate FF? I didn't mean that Bendis should write UFF...I just meant that they need to find the person who they can hand over the reins to for a long period of time.

Lecko, I know (hence the "codicil" and "moot" comments)...

But I'll take a cheap shot at Bendis anytime it's there.

HA! The only Bendis book that I read regularly is Ultimate Spider-Man (which I really love). I can't really stomach his New Avengers. I never really gave Powers a chance...I have heard pretty good things though.

In FF comic book news...it looks like JMS is going to be giving up FF in order to focus on the re-launch of THOR. JMS has said that his last issue will be somewhere around #541.

Norm Macdonald has a new CD out, and the first track is about the naming history of the Fantastic Four.

Ben Grimm, you're a thing of a man, so you will be THE THING!

Sue, you're a woman that can turn invisible, THE INVISIBLE WOMAN

Johnny, you're human, but you're also a torch, THE HUMAN TORCH!

And me, my arms stretch like rubberbands, so I'll be MR. FANTASTIC

Uh.. Reed.. uhm. Nevermind.

At least Black Panther and his new wife make more sense than She-Hulk or Luke Cage did when they joined I guess. At least BP has a history with the FF. But I was kind of hoping Franklin and Herbie would be deputized, considering their stars are on the rise in their own title. It gets kinda boring after a while seeing this old musical chairs again. "Sue out. She-Hulk in. Sue back in. Reed out. Ant-Man in. Then Reed back in again. Sue Storm out, now other Storm in."

Uggh. Every time they do this everyone knows it's not going to last and it's all so pointless, yet they do it again. Give me something that shows some growth for the characters, not the same endless old cycle.

The only way to make this really work, to really resonate, would be to do a miniseries following Reed and Sue as they try to fix their relationship. Hell, I don't even buy F4, but I'd buy that book.

Why are your expectations so high? I talked with the Fantastic Four and they are happy with who YOU are. Can't you return the favor?

And She-Hulk joining made perfect sense because... well she was awesome!

Holy God, is that Ego the Living Planet? He should have been on the team years ago.

I can't wait to see Ego donning a big "4" to do battle with Mole Man or the Mad Thinker.

Yeah probably. But I am not really bothered because they are black, but rather because Black Panther and Storm are so boring. It should tell you something when Ben Grimm is the single smartest person on the team now.

Well actually Grimm is my favorite, but I love all of the team. Ranking in order from most favorite to least: Thing, Sue, She-Hulk, Johnny, Nova (Frankie Raye), Luke Cage, Crystal, Ant-Man II (Scott Lang), Archangel, Reed, Ms. Marvel II (Thing-ette!), Storm and the Black Panther. I love Sue alot!

I actually never read an issue with Luke Cage, Ant-Man or Archangel. But I still like them better than Black Panther and Storm.

It's weird. I used to love Storm in the 80s, especially when she lost her powers and went all punk-ass.

Like Millar said, it doesn't start to hit its stride until around the #30's. After that it's gravy. I think a lot of the comedy/absurdity still holds up. The first appearance of the Impossible Man in particular.

Yeah I have prepared myself for some of the camp/goofiness that is bound to accompany anything from that period. Still, I am really looking forward to reading the family dynamic stuff. It really is one of the main reasons why I purchased the book. I enjoy the UFF, but have struggled to get into the MarvelU FF because I just don't think the dynamic has been executed very well since I started reading comics a few years ago. I am basically only accustomed to the JMS FF.

I LOVE the FF as a concept and I want to search out the runs that defined who they are so I am starting to collect the Lee/Kirby stuff and hopefully will collect the John Byrne stuff as well.

Any hardcore FF funs out there able to reccomend any other stories I should read?

No I came in about midway through JMS' run. I didn't start collecting trades and what not of back issues until about last year so I never got around to picking up the Waid stuff. Is it worth collecting?

It's what turned me into a hardcore fan. I'd rank it above Byrne. The best stuff since Lee and Kirby.

Oh wow. From what I can tell...the whole run is collected in two HC volumes. I think I will pick up the first volume before I leave on for Europe. It will be an all FF plane ride (between the omnibus and Waid).

FANTASTIC FOUR #563 PREVIEW

Postby TheButcher on Sat Jan 24, 2009 7:24 am

From MIllarworld:

MASSIVE FANTASTIC FOUR #563 PREVIEW, SEE THE HUMAN TORCH IN A SUPERHERO THREESOME...
Mark Millar wrote:
Oh Hell yeah. Hitchy's looking better than ever.

It's weird being back to monthly. I thought this was still weeks away, but here were are coming out every month on FF like good boys. This is the Ben and Debbie engagement issue, next issue begins a two part horror thing in Scotland and then it's our final four part arc as Clyde Wyncham from 1985 returns in THE MASTER OF DOOM.

MM

FANTASTIC FOUR 566: THE MASTER OF DOOM
Mark Millar wrote:
Yep, starting in April Bry and I conclude our (awesome) FF run with the biggest story of them all: The man who tutored Doctor Doom. And he's back, baby. See here...

http://www.newsarama.com/preview_images/ma...9/ff566_cov.jpg

Remember when Doom went off with those monks as a young man? Who trained him in the black arts? Who made him the bad-ass he is today and what does he think of what Doom's accomplished? It all ends here, my friends, in the biggest story yet.

MM

PS But before that, don't miss FF 564 and 565 where the FF come to Scotland. It's a creepy wee two parter I originally planned as a special, but works very well here.
