yeah, it's online too.

Then I read this earlier today -

[quote="comicpants"] There’s no getting around it: Spider-Man: Reign is an ill-conceived rip-off of Frank Miller’s legendary Dark Knight Returns. Replace Batman with Spider-Man and you’re pretty much done. Like Batman, Spidey begins this hypothetical future story as an aging, pathetic man who’s lost his way. Like Batman, he’s facing off with fascist government forces in a world where superheroes have been outlawed. There’s even a storm that breaks when Spidey puts on the costume again. And the frozen-face newscasters of Dark Knight. I swear, Spider-Man’s even given Batman’s ultra-noir narration (would you believe the clichéd Miller classic, “stupid old man,â€

This looks and sounds amazing - Worry Doll

Newsarama wrote:The solicitation for Worry Doll reads:

by Matt Coyle

Mature Readers
76 pages; soft cover; black & white
Product Code: NOV063735

A stylish, gothic-noir, Lynchian murder-mystery, this story is disguised as a children's book. Tasmanian writer/illustrator Matt Coyle has already received major newspaper coverage for this work in Australia, with art exhibitions arranged for early 2007, and interest from film and TV companies. The book features astonishing, disturbing hand- crafted photo-realistic black-and-white sequential art reminiscent of Gaiman and McKean's "Violent Cases."

From Mam Tor's Liam Sharpe: "Seriously, this work amazes me. It's all hand drawn - sometimes taking up to a month a page - with no photoshop trickery. If you like David Lynch, or Gaiman and McKean's Violent Cases, then this is the must-have book for you this year."

Go and check out those pages and you'll see why I uttered 'holy fuck' - amazing artwork.

Uhhh...did someone at this table order the Spider-Ham?

Wha-wh-WHAT!?!?

So Spider-Ham's going through a renaissance, but DC won't let anyone touch Captain Carrot?

As fucked up as the DC Universe is these days, it's not like the return of the Zoo Crew could make it any worse.

THE LOVE, people...where is it?

DC seems to be really badly managed. I loath Quesada, but freely admit he's doing a great job. Didio... I dunno. He just seems uninspired.

I am extremely glad that Newsarama has done this. Both of these books deserve to be as commercially successful as they are critically successful.

Oh, they've got full issue 1's of Casanova and The Pirates of Coney Island, too.

Yeah, it's good of Image to release these books for free, four of the most innovative/interesting titles of last year ( or the books they want to sell more of this year ) for nothing, cool.

Image was by far my favorite publisher of this past year.

Cassanova, Fear Agent, Fell, Invincible, Walking Dead...

Add into that the beginning of Phonogram and Nightly News for 2007. Image is releasing the best comics available on the market.

Ladies and gents I come to you with some fairly huge comic book news courtesy of Lying In The Gutters.

This news contains LARGE spoilers for the DCU in 2007. If you wish...check out the tiny text

the yet unannounced news that Green Arrow and Black Canary are to wed in the DC Universe sometime in 2007. A story so big and newsworthy that it had be hidden in the depths of this column as a reward for everyone who made it this far.

Whoa. Looks cool.

If there's a book Ellis should be writing, it's probably Thunderbolts. They should have thought of it before.

Oh, and I don't give a fuck what the Ellis haters on this board have to say until they look at Lecko's link. This stuff looks good.

Speedball is now Penance. He can only use his powers when he feels pain and he is trying to atone for his sins.

Some interesting rumors from the column All The Rage over at SBC.com

Here is the rumor:

DC Loves Sean McKeever…?

The gnomish pipeline passed me information that the talented Mr. Sean McKeever has signed exclusively with DC, and will start when he finishes up with his Marvel commitments. It is rumoured that he’ll be working on one of their bigger crossover projects of 2007 with editor Mike Marts, which I’m told could involve the New Gods.

Is this indeed a possibility? Are the stars right? We’ll see. I find this to be terrific news… if true. I hear that the official announcement will come at New York Comic Con.

Seeing Sean leave Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane is going to crush me, but I love his writing and can't wait to see what he comes up with over at DC.

It is. Basically, its Spider-Man meets The OC, but it is excellent. I am a huge sucker for teenage angst and especially for Spider-Man teenage angst. Those are my favorite Spidey stories. McKeever gets it.

I love shit like that.

Is anyone else looking forward to Marc Guggenheim taking of Flash: The Fastest Man Alive?

I haven't been reading his work on Wolverin, but he has to be better than the current writing team. Read an interview with him about Flash right here.

Wake me when they bring back Barry Allen.

Bart "Scrappy" Allen might be the only character in comics whose background is more convoluted than Cable's. I find it impossible to care about either one of them.

I went to the comic shop today, to get X-23 1&2 and comic guy had a preview copy of Thunderbolts. I did not get a chance to read it, but I flicked through and bizarrely ( I thought the preview online looked great ) the artwork, particularly towards the end of the book, is pretty iffy. I only flicked through mind, it might be better second time round.

I found out a couple of days ago and I hate it. I hate the suit. I hate the electrical powers. The old powers were silly, but I hate the electrical powers. I also hate the absolute twisting of a decent kid into a masochistic psycho.

I'll have dropped the book by then. I guess a nice run of stories on the TV Flash twenty years ago didnt' mean Bilson and Demeo had what it takes to write comics. Of course, twenty years ago they had Howard Chaykin as story editor.

The suit might be a little...much...I'll admit. I think they were all about the visuals...but I still like the idea. I never knew a thing about Speedball before this, but seeing him transform has been heart wrenching to watch. It seemed really organic. That is just me.

Sorry you don't like it, Dennis. But I can't wait to see what lies in store for Penance.

Guess I'm too old for this one. Speedball WAS Spider-Man. That was the point. He was created by Steve Ditko, his costume was similar, his homelife was not unlike Parker's. Now he's another grim, psychotic avenger.

And then they can ret-con all this Civil War stuff.
