Steve Bissette is a god, I had no idea he'd worked with Moore on something besides Swamp Thing!

Mark Millar's next big MARVEL event!

Postby TheButcher on Mon Sep 28, 2009 6:45 am

From MillarWorld.net:
SO I'VE GOT THIS BIG NEW IDEA FOR MARVEL!

Mark Millar wrote:
I'm pleased with my little efforts for my fellow Mousketeers at Marvel. Civil War, Ultimates, Ultimate 2, Ultimate FF and X-Men, Enemy of the State, 1985, Ultimate Avengers, Old Man Logan, etc, etc, have all been very good to me. But I've thought of this thing that has me so excited I'm actually going to move the artist on my next creator-owned gig back into the Marvel stable and do what's very possibly going to be the most commercial and yet radical Marvel project I have ever done. I'm going to talk to Joe about this tomorrow, but if this works out the way I have it in my head this could be the big one. You have been warned.

MM

Mark Millar wrote:
I'm going to phone Joe tomorrow and have a chat with him. I'll let you know what he thinks. But I'm basically wanting to borrow the family car for a little while, take it on the scariest ride ever and hopefully hand it back in one piece.

Hopefully the fact that this has the potential to be bigger than Civil War will convince him. Here's hoping as I love this. I just have that crazy good feeling about it when you know you're onto something big. I knew we had it with Old Man Logan, Kick-Ass and Ultimates and I smell it here. This has the potential to be absolutely crazy.

I hope this series doesn't suck. Johns doesn't seem to have the feeling for Barry that he has for Hal. I'd just as soon have seen Barry stay dead if they can't make him more important than Wally became.

Multiversity

10 ANSWERS & A QUESTION with DAN DIDIO 10-5-09

Vaneta Rogers wrote:
2) 4thHorseman wrote:
At NYCC this year (IIRC), someone asked when we will see the new New Gods. You responded after Blackest Night we will see the Fifth World. Any hints of what's to come?

DiDio: There is potential. We know there's a Multiversity series from Grant Morrison that's out there. There's potential those characters might be seen in there. I won't confirm or deny that. But at this particular point, coming out of Final Crisis, his characters were front and center for so long that we wanted to put them aside for a little while. And while we have Blackest Night going on, they're not actually part of it. That's not to say we won't see or hear from them post-Blackest Night DCU.

Nrama: We discussed a couple weeks ago that there are certain characters you prefer certain creators to handle. Are you hoping it's Grant that writes the next stories that feature the New Gods, and therefore aren't letting anyone else touch them?

DiDio: As of right now, we've pretty much put a moratorium on the New Gods, following Final Crisis. But it does make sense for Grant to be the first one to roll them out.

Per Rich Johnston's Bleeding Cool:

Those Long Beach Comic Con freelancers are a gossipy lot. Away from their corporate masters, giddy with a mix of fear and excitement over the coming changes at Marvel and DC, they tend to talk, gossip, exaggerate and compare notes. And then email me.

So, with the best will in the world, and a modicum of fact checking that dropped out a few stray ends, here’s what I’ve been hearing about certain DC plans next year.

Well Geoff Johns announced that he and Francis Manapul will be on Flash, I understand that Johns will stay on Green Lantern that he will head up a new core Justice League Of America title to be announced shortly. So while Geoff keeps control over the League and two of its members, friend and colleague Grant Morrison will be keeping the others in check, continuing a monthly Batman book but also adding a Superman and Wonder Woman book to the mix, for the full Trinity set.

With Geoff and Grant at the centre of the DC Universe, expect trusted writers like Pete Tomasi (coming off The Outsiders, replaced by Dan DiDio) to take on the secondary characters, keeping the central thrust of the DC Universe consistent and coherent. No more problems with repeated New God deaths… just the Geoff and Grant show, writ large.

If true, it’s a bold new creator-driven approach from DC, learning from Final Crisis and building on Blackest Night, reminiscent of moves made by Marvel in the past to great success.

And the message is this. Look out Marvel… after all, you did quite well out of putting an American and a Scot in creative lead positions.

Morrison & Quitely's next project!

Postby TheButcher on Mon Oct 12, 2009 11:59 pm

10 ANSWERS & A QUESTION with DAN DIDIO 10-12-09 UPDATED

Vaneta Rogers wrote:
6) Kairos wrote:
Will we ever see any of the Grant Morrison "All-Star Superman Specials" that were apparently discussed when All-Star Superman was finished?

DiDio: I don't think so. I mean, what happened was that we wanted to keep the series going, but to be quite honest, the 12 issues that Grant and Frank Quitely had done together was so spectacular, I really didn't a way to follow it up, and I was happy to see them move on to Batman and Robin. Grant has a very full plate between what he has going on with Batman and all the series, not to say that they're off the table, but right now, we're focused on a lot of other big things with Grant.

Nrama: I know Cameron Stewart is on Batman and Robin next, but is it still the plan that Frank Quitely will return to the comic?

DiDio: There's a good chance that he will, but he also has another project with Grant that he's working on as we speak.

This is going to be good!

They couldn't have got Denny O'Neil to write it? Robinson is writing Starman. If they can do that, they can do anything. (And, as Frank Miller reminded us, "If you intend to die, you can do anything." Appropriate for "Blackest Night.")

Thank providence! But then they have the balls to give the cover to Cully Hamner. I like him, but no cover for the great, original cover team? Is it just me, or is there something wrong with Bill Sienkiewicz, one of the most talented artists ever to work in comics, doing almost nothing but inking?

Lecko, I had not seen those. I don't get to Bleeding Cool that often. Thanks!

Judging by how well his song-writing endeavors took off,- oh wait...

Because there's no better way to read a comic than on a 2"x6" screen. Unless it's on your iPod nano.

e-comics are what tablets were invented for.

Even on something like the Kindle (they must've been so proud of this name, but the double-irony is that these damned things SHOULD be burned!!!) it seems ridiculous to read comics in this way... hell even on a nice big computer screen it seems awkward!

Actually it's an interesting topic 'cause I was thinking of bringing up the subject of comic piracy (y'know, torrents... not pirate comics) in here or doing more research on the subject... I was gonna try and judge/measure its proliferation proportionally to music/film/television internet piracy.
