Did Marvel Comics Know?

Postby Ju? on Mon Sep 11, 2006 10:08 pm

I go back to these 2 issues of X-Force & Spider-Man just to look at the imagery seen in these pictures I just scanned this morning, so you can see what I've been seeing for years.

The first scan is from X-Force #3, Oct. 1991 (Released Sep. 1991, exactly 10 years earlier.)
The last 2 are from Spider-Man #16, Nov. 1991 (Continuation of story from XF #3.)

I always knew there was a connection between Rob Liefeld and terrorists.

It's been years since I looked at these. I completely forgot about that. Has anyone ever seen Liefeld and Bin Laden in the same room? I think not.

Don't take the title seriously. I posted this on IMDB, and some dude took it offensively.

Is that supposed to be the WTC? If so I am amazed Rob can't even draw them as a square instead of rectangular. I mean he sucks but that's like the most basic perspective.

Yeah, it is. The first scan is Rob Liefeld, the last 2 was Todd McFarlane.

The WTC has been an obvious target for years. Attacking them isn't an original idea. Jackie Chan was supposed to star in a movie about thwarting an attack on the WTC until the real attack happened. What would be weird is if Marvel actually named the terrorists who were involved . . . !

You've got them labled incorrectly. The first one is Spider-man by McFarlane and the other two are X-Force by Liefeld.

No. I have them labeled correctly. I should know, I scanned them.
X-Force #3 was done by Rob Liefeld (as seen in 1st scan.)
Spider-Man #16 was done by Todd McFarlane (as seen in 2nd & 3rd scans, which was also his last issue with Marvel.)

Black Tom & Juggernaut did it in those issues.

Liefeld should be shot for drawing Captain America like his chest was giving birth to the Alien Queen:

I'm tellin you I'm clicking on the one that ends in XF3 and its Spider-man, while the two that end in SM16-1 and SM16-2 are X-factor. I assume XF stands for X-force while SM stands for Spider-man. Spider-man is by McFarlane. X-force is by Liefeld. So you've got them labeled wrong.

He should be shot for drawing those crotchlines on his male characters. As a matter of fact, I think he's one of the most overrated artists of all time.

I am telling you, you are incorrect. They are labeled correctly. Look at the art styles. By the way, if you read the top, I mention where the scans came from, and it's X-Force, not X-Factor. I can make you feel stupid by scanning the first page with the credits on it, but, I think I'll spare you.

1. It was a crossover.
2. Cable was in X-Force, not X-Factor.

I know he was in X-Force, not X-factor. I just got it mixed up (probably because X-factor is the one that still exists in some form). I didn't know it was a crossover.

Well I don't know for sure, but I'd have to say that the first one looks a lot like the work of McFarlane and the latter two look like Liefeld. It's possible you have them labeled wrong by accident.

I promise you, I've even double checked to give the benefit of the doubt, but I know I have it correct. I don't know how you can mistake the 2 styles. Look at the covers, dude. I just posted them. They say who did what art.

I thought the same thing (besides that there are far too many backgrounds in the second two for them to be Liefelds). Since Liefeld always just tried to rip off McFarlane (horribly) I believe that Ju was correct. It was odd the respective characters didn't appear in those pages of their respective books, but like he said it was a crossover thing.

You know what? I didn't notice, but you're right. I can see where you'd get it mixed up. I just noticed that those respective pages happen to show the guest characters (Spider-Man in X-Force, X-Force in Spider-Man). Now I understand where this all started. I apologize. The labeling is right, though.

OI! JU?! Listen! I don't want to open old wounds, but before I scrolled down to the scrap I looked at the pics and was confused:

YOU HAVE THEM LABELLED WRONG! The first one is spiderman, where as the second one doesn't have spiderman on it, but has Xforce! (laffing at X-Factor btw!)

Is anyone else noticing this? :-)

I'm thinking he's right now, actually. If you blow up the first pic with Spider-Man, there's a little word box at the bottom that says "Continued in Spider-Man #16" (which I missed first time around  ). Soooo, whatever comic that is, it ain't Spider-Man #16.

I'm glad someone's paying attention. In this storyline, which starts in X-Force #3, Spider-Man appears to help X-Force follow Black Tom & Juggernaut, the story continues in Spider-Man #16 and ends in X-Force #4. Here are the covers to the first 2 parts for those of you who are still confused. I know it's difficult because the pictures I scanned happen to be pics of just Spider-Man in X-Force, and just X-Force in Spider-Man, but trust me, I have it right. I would never mistake Liefeld artwork for McFarlane.
