Well, I guess we don't need Joshua anymore. Seems the Zoners are doing fine keeping everyone up to speed on news.

I don't even know if its true. I have yet to read any of Slott's work, but the reviews are always outstanding. PLUS, he apparently did a bang up job writing one of my favorite Marvel characters, She-Hulk.

Where the fuck is MasterWhedon when we need him?

I saw this listed at the top of the main page, rather than within its category and assumed they had greenlit a solo movie to follow the F4 movie...

Does anyone else think it's weird that the day after Whedon says he's going to take a picture of Dino's parking place, they both disappear?

Holy crappa!

I picked up Dan Slott's The Thing, and I have fallen in love with the character all over again. When I was a comic book reader, I used to love the Fantastic Four, and specifically the Thing. Then he suddenly had a helmut on his head. Or he looked like an echinoderm. It was just too much.

I really haven't been reading Fantastic Four, so I am not sure how this happened, but apparently the Thing has become one of the richest dudes on the planet. This first issue tackles that issue with all the humor and tragedy you would expect from a Thing title.

Hey Goliath calls his old buddy Thing and asks for a visit. O NOEES! Goliath just wants Thing to invest in his newest gadget.

Eventually Ben ends up at a fancy party with his super-model girlfriend where he has the pleasure of realizing that people actually like him quite a bit. That's before something starts attacking the guests, by the way.

THe characterization is spot on, and as we have seen with Dan Slott in his She-Hulk title, he really knows how to bring in the arcane Marvel minutuae. Not only do we get an appearance from Goliath, but also (I think) the 80s Captain Marvel who was on the Avengers, Nighthawk, and the dastardly Constrictor!

LOL WTF

Special mention needs to be made for the artist Andrea DiVito. Holy crap, who ever you are man/woman, you have some of the most beautiful art I have seen in a comic in ages. The facial characterizations is very Sal Buscema, but the bodies are more Byrne-like. Somehow DiVito makes it his/her own. This is a really beautiful book, and the Thing has (and I don't say this lightly) NEVER looked better. He/She has given the character anatomy that makes sense, but it's still the Ben Grimm we all know and love.

I am looking forward to following this book for a spell. I hope Dan Slott can keep my interest, and I have little doubt. I also hope the issue of Ben's sex life is addressed.

So I just got done with Thing 2, and I am still loving the fuck out of this book. This one is just more balls out action and less character driven then the first issue, but what sweet action it is. Thank god for writer Dan Slott. And Andrea Di Vito turns in another beautiful book

HAHA, I think I totally missed it. Although the was definitely a Survivor vibe.

I loved it when they get the Marvel land. I wish they had done a broader shot to give you a sense of how large and detailed it was.

Did you find it yet? That little dude is dressed like Chah-lie at the beginning of the issue, when he's switching wardrobes. He's got the little pieces of tape on his hands and everything, except it spells F-A-T instead of F-A-T-E because he only has four fingers.

The action was intense. It was pretty relentless actually. Slott definitely upped the ante in this one. I know what you mean about not showing enough of the Islands of Misadventure, although the Marvel part gave me a headache, honestly. For some reason it pisses me off when they talk about Marvel comics within Marvel comics. The scope thing aside, I'm loving Andrea DiVito's artwork.

Really enjoyed the first issue, I like Slott's style. I was not sure about the art over the first couple of pages ( only on a personal note ) but it really grew on me and DiVito's art certainly brings the best out of Ben. The ending was cool and left me looking forward to the next issue, which after reading the posts above, sounds good.

This one time, Wolverine slashed Thing's face and Thing was scarred for like a year. He had to wear a helmet to hide his face because he forgot that it's doesn't really matter because he's MADE OF FUCKING ROCKS. That turned him into a bitch, for me.

Thing: "OMG MY SKIN IS ALL ROCK-HARD NOW I'M AN UGLY...UGLY THING?!?"

Wolverine: "Yeah well then it probably won't hurt if I did THIS! HA!"

Thing: "OMGWTF MY FACE ITS RUINED?"

I remember that. It had nothing to do with coolness of the Thing... just bad story telling.

So was the Clone Saga. Doesn't mean you have to like it or think it's a prudent storytelling decision, your fucktardedness.

I can't remember the exact reason, but Wolverine and Thing were fighting...and Wolverine slashed Thing in the face.

He IMMEDIATELY apologized, though. I remember that. I think he even covered his mouth and said something like "Oh man...oh man, Ben I'm so sorry, my hand slipped, man! Oh man..."
