Tony Millionaire - Genius

Postby unikrunk on Sat Dec 09, 2006 8:03 am

Mods - searched for a thread, did not find one so I created this - if there is another thread, please moderate my ass over to it and accept my apologies.

Tony Millionaire is a genius. I mean it. This thread is for discussion of his many works, from his Maakies strips to his newest and most excellent endeavor, Billy Hazelnuts.

My personal favorite is Sock Monkey's turn of the century adventures.

Any other Millionaire lovers out there?

Haters?

Anyone?

No, I had not, and you sir, just made my day! This is awesome!

Edit: Holy lord that was amazing. "That explains why I could not fly that day". And the end, with a poorly stitched Uncle Gabby reciting poetry...genius.

HOLY GOD -

I saw an episode on Adult Swim, but it is not listed on thier site...please tell me Williams St. has the brains to move forward with THE DRINKY CROW SHOW!

Starring Drinky Crow and Uncle Gabby -

edit - nice - there are 20 Maakies on youtube - you owe it to yourself to view them.

You also owe it to me, so step to it.

yeah, it was part of that night where they did 5 pilots in a row. Superjail, The Crook'd Sipp, The Drinky Crow Show, Let's Fish, and studly Guy Stuck In Internet. possibly not in that order. i think they were trying the "throw shit at a wall and see what sticks" approach. not to say that the drinky crow show was shit, just that the AS guys weren't sure at the time. i would imagine at this point it is probably up to fan response to decide if they go forward with any of them. at least, that would be my guess.

Gotcha - I hope I did not miss some sort of 'vote for the show that lives' thing: that would suck.

Re: Who is Tony Millionaire, wiki / Google it up - last thing I read about him was in VICE a year or two ago he was living in New York, doing the Maakies strip, and he discussed how he bankrolled a trip through Europe by doing architecture sketches and selling them to locals.

Being VICE, there was some insane element to the story that I can’t recall.

‘Sock Monkey,’ Movie Star? Comic Adaptation Swings For Big Screen: Video
Jen Yamato wrote:EXCLUSIVE:
Now that LEGOs and Paddington Bear have spawned their own movies, is it time for the sock monkey to venture onto the big screen? Animator Matt Danner and comics scribe Tony Millionaire (Maakies) are making the leap with their forthcoming Fantagraphics storybook Sock Monkey: Into The Deep Woods, the latest adventure in Millionaire’s Eisner Award-winning lit saga about a sock monkey named Uncle Gabby. To demonstrate the character’s cinematic potential, Danner penned a feature script and produced a “sneak peek” teaser using hybrid CG/live-action “digi-nette puppetry” to bring the surreal toy story to life.
