I was really hoping something like this would happen after they launched the Buffy comic.

Me too. I wonder if they'll start with the alley fight, or just jump ahead. I guess it depends on what happens in the alley.

very exciting.

I get the impression that it starts with them in the alley. I guess because of his "cliffhanger" comment.

Yeah I was reading about this earlier in the day...I was going to start a thread but had to run. Glad to see someone made one.

I am incredibly psyched about this...but I hope like hell that IDW doesn't go the Star Trek: Year Four route and do Angel: Season Six as a six issue mini. I want this to be an on-going like Buffy: Season 8. At the very least, 30 issues or so. Make it feel like an actual season. If it ends up being just a mini I will feel so incredibly cheated.

EDIT: Just read the Joss Whedon interview (I had only previously read the Brian Lynch interview) I see that he mentions they are looking at a 12 issue maxi-series. I really really really hope they change it to 18. I just don't think we will be able to get the full feeling of an actual "Season 6" in only 12 issues. While the news itself excites me, I am extremely saddened by the length.

All that being said, I think the writer has a firm grasp on the Angel universe. Spike: Asylum was almost pitch perfect. My only real complaint was the lack of regular cast members, but thats really the only thing wrong with it. Can't wait to read his follow up. Its a good time to be a fan of these properties.

However, I definitely do want find out what happens after the alley.

Pity Wes won't be making the trip, cause it took some time but Wes finally became more interesting than annoying.

Either:

A - the evil forces won, and took over the world
B - Angel & Co won, and continued on with their usual plans
C - it was a no score draw, and everyone continued on with their usual plan.

Which ever way, after that ending it's all best left down to the audience.

Herc has some info on Angel: Season 6 and the first 5 pages of book 1!

Hard to see, kinda. The art isn't doing anything for me so far....but I'm definitely picking it up.

Sweet opening. The interior art, just like BTVS S8, sucks! However, the story alone is worth my $3.00.

Is no one else reading this? So far the story is fantastic and very much in line with the series. Just a brief not to spoilery primer for those who aren't reading:

Aparently at the end of the TV Series, Wolfram and Hart didn't just send a fleet of demons to attack our heroes. What WH actually did was suck all of Los Angeles into hell. Now Angel and a few recognizeable faces are working to protect all the denizens of the City of Angels from the ravages of Evil Gone WILD! There have been some amazing surprises in the first two issues. YOU MUST READ THIS. WE MUST DISCUSS!

I'm still trying to find a copy of #1. The prices on Ebay are ridiculous and I refuse to pay IDW $6.50 for shipping.

I might just have to wait for the trade.

#2 was quite good. The first two issues have been solid. I would say that the first issues of Angel have started out better than the first issues of the new Buffy comic.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS - YES YOU, I SAID SPOILERS

I go with that.
Felt like far less setup/short stroking necessary to get Angel's story moving.
Not a complaint - there's a certain amount of inertia to overcome after a long layoff, but Angel did seem to hit the ground running.
Death doesn't keep anyone down in the Whedon-verse, do it?
Hello, Wes.

Getting regular injections of Buffy & Angel again - 2007 wasn't all that bad after all, was it?

If I'm lucky, my local vendor (now the only vendor of comical pamphlets in this city) may still have #2 and I can get it, plus ask the rest be held. Perhaps I can stop by tomorrow. The store should be open. If they don't have it I'll ask if they can reorder. IDW's a bitch, though, aren't they? Low print runs and all. Or am I confusing them with another company?

Just in case anyone wondered about this kind of stuff:

Angel: After the Fall #1 sold 47,000 copies putting it at #41st best selling comic for the month of November.

To compare, the new Buffy comic debuted with well over 100,000 copies sold and continues to be in the top 10 every month it is released.

However, Buffy was being written by Joss AND it also was a Dark Horse comic.

Yeah, I have to say that I'm having a hard time with that one too.

And WTF is up with Nina? Granted, she is now smokin' hot, but her interaction with Angel in issue #2 struck me as really fucking odd. That, and why are her and Gwen in almost identical outfits except for color? I don't see Connor as being big on uniforms.

While I was more excited by Angel returning, I'm finding I like Buffy better, if only for the tone. Angel better get back to fucking awesome soon!

I disagree. The developments with Gunn have me excited. Gosh had his character run its course towards the end there. Now, at least he has a new wrinkle.

And the first two issues of Angel have, to me, been WAY better than the first two issues of the Buffy comic. So kudos all around.

I agree with that, but the Gunn thing still bugs me a bit. Not just the new wrinkle, but his new "mission" as well. But like I said, we'll see where it goes. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I like it because I found it genuinely disturbing. Not something I would want to happen to one of the crew, but Angel was always filled with moments like this, so for me its par for the course.

Now if they could only find a way to bring back Cordy not studly and saccharine.

I can't wait to discuss it. I was really worried about the Angel comic because...I have always dug the Angel series more than I dug Buffy. So I figured I would enjoy the Buffy comic, but my expectations for Angel were so high that I thought there was NO WAY that it could live up to it...

...now the first two issues were good, but this issue TOTALLY raises the stakes. Some very real developments occur that have real impacts on Angel's status quo. Even more so than LA being in Hell did.

I'm with you Lecko. Read it this afternoon. That's one hell of a cliffhanger. The issue 1 ending was great, but I'd read spoilers about how the TV show would have used the same plot, so it wasnt totally unexpected. But this one really had me by the short hairs. Very cool issue.

Although, I still dont think they've captured Angel's voice very well. He's too quippy. Everyone else is pretty close, though.

I hear what you're saying about Angel's voice. I mean Angel was a bit "quippy" but he had a very distinct "quippyness", if you will...and it just isn't quite there yet. But it isn't enough to hinder my enjoyment of the series.

And Lynch just NAILS everyone else, IMO. Gosh that cliffhanger has me chomping at the bit...epecially when it was followed by the cover for next week and it reads "Are you hooked?" I totally smiled at that.
