Batman: Secrets

Postby Worst Part's Almost Over on Mon Mar 03, 2008 9:21 am

Just picked this up at the weekend during my visit to Southampton to see my good lady. A wonderfully written story with some excellent artwork and an interesting 'sequel' to The Killing Joke (the ending of which is referenced several times). There's some cracking dialogue and the interplay between Batman and The Joker makes great reading.

The story revolves around the publication of The Joker's autobiography and his apparent 'repentance' for his past crimes. Upon his release, he encounters Batman and during their fight a woman captures photographs - one of which appears to show Batman shoving a gun into The Joker's face. Cue Joker doing his utmost to launch a campaign of hate against Batman by feeding the press with false information and images to make it appear that Batman is menacing him. Elsewhere, a secret of Bruce Wayne's childhood emerges just as an old friend becomes the target of blackmail from The Joker.

Anybody else who's read it, I'd love to hear your opinions. All those who've not, check it out soon.

Haven't read it , but the art looks great. I love that exaggerated, almost goofy style of drawing.

I have the first three or four issues of this miniseries... I picked it up on a lark 'cause I used to be a fan of Sam Kieth in the Maxx days, but he's too self-indulgent now with his art... it's been a while since I looked at those comics, but they hadn't really marked me story-wise, though there were some interesting aspects to them.

I started reading this once, but just couldn't finish it. I found the artwork very distracting.

Sam Kieth has completely thrown form out the window at this point, to the extent that his artwork just looks like worker and parasite now:

What the hell is that?!

From what I remember of Secrets, his art looked like a mash up of Dave McKean and Simon Bisley, whose art I enjoy seperately, but when combined it's just too much.
