Steampunk

The Todd won a copy of a book from Goodreads that's described as a Steampunk novel. I will get to it, once I'm done the current book I'm on, but The Todd was wondering if anyone here reads/likes Steampunk and if so, can they offer any excellent Steampunk titles?

Not sure if I'm close on this definition (for those, like The Todd, who are not in the know):
Steampunk is a sub-genre of fantasy and speculative fiction, set in an anachronistic society, that generally deals with advanced technology in the altered past.

Steampunk seems like an interesting concept, but I think stories in this vein tend to veer too much into fantasy for my taste... I know there was a steampunk comic series not long ago, Cliffhanger by Image Comics I believe. And there's always Steamboy. That was pretty good.

I think League of the Extraordinary Gentleman should qualify. And maybe Howl's Moving Castle, too (the book, that is- though it's really more of a fantasy). Other than that, and a comic by Neil Gaiman called Teknophage, it's a genre that's mostly eluded me. I guess there are things which skirt with the idea, like Full Metal Alchemist, but whether a hardcore Steampunker would wipe his goggles in disgust at my calling these things Steampunk, I don't know.

EDIT: Brief Neil Gaiman video Interview with MTV about Steampunk.

Honestly I sort of found His Dark Materials to be vaguely steampunk.

His Dark Materials is a great example of steampunk.

Just for kicks and giggles, a fairly decent list of steampunk literature.

I think I've probably read more cyberpunk than steampunk.

Ah, it is like hand-slap gold.

Good to see yo around these parts. As for steampunk, Warren Ellis is experimenting greatly with the genre/whatever at the moment. Freak Angels is a web comic that utilizing it. As well as Ignition City, if I am not mistaken.

Just thought I'd stay on topic.
