My bet is that this is also the kind of movie Luc Besson dreamed of being made when he was a kid reading science fiction

Blomkamp's schtick gets old quickly for me. I loved District 9 but felt like his other two films went to the same well with rapidly diminishing returns. This looks pretty much the same -- a dash of faux-documentary style, alien creature design, a weirdly fetishistic attitude towards guns and explosives, and something about humans losing their humanity. But I also like the idea of a series of experimental short films. So, I don't know.

But does it have Hugh Jackman spying on people with binoculars like the tight-ass dean in an '80s college sex comedy?

In theory I'm all for a Kenneth Branagh veresion of Murder on the Orient Express but somehow tha trailer didn't quite convince me, despite the stachiness.

Not sure why. Maybe hte tone is more thriller than I'm used to? :?

Well if you don't like the sound of any of that, just wait until you get acquainted with Hercule Poirot: BADASS MOTHERFUCKER!!!

Agatha Christie’s famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is usually depicted as an older gentleman in the twilight of his career who relies on his brains — those “little grey cells” — rather than physical feats. But Kenneth Branagh is taking a slightly different approach in his depiction of the famous investigator in the actor-director’s new star-studded version of Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express (out Nov. 10).

“He has a military background, he’s a former policeman, and there’s a kind of action man-quality to him,” says Branagh.

Screenwriter Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049) explains that he and Branagh decided early on that their Poirot should be a younger, and more physically able, character than we are used to seeing.

Though he might be the world’s greatest detective, he’s not the greatest detective he’ll be. That left us with the possibility of a man who still has some virility to him, still has some vitality, and isn’t afraid to climb the stairs to get to the top of the train and look out, who is perfectly capable of hitting back if someone accused tries to hit him. He may prefer not to — but he’s perfectly capable.

hey, could be worse... at least it's not directed by Guy Ritchie.

i dunno, trailer looked pretty good to me. can't argue with that cast, and i don't get any sense that the film will be ending with slo-mo kung fu fights or anything.

Plus it's Branagh shooting in 65mm for the first time since HAMLET.

And I love me some HAMLET.

Also happy to see Derek Jacobi in this. I honestly thought he was dead.

Ribbons post has me a bit worried.

The potential of being great remains but my fears of how wrong it will be if it goes wrong have risen a bit.

My first thought was to make fun of the name because it sounds pretty close to Badonkadonk.

Then I watched the trailer, and it scared the pee out of me! Go away scary movie, GO AWAY!!!!!!

A friend of mine saw it at Sundance and said, "absolutely top notch filmmaking across the board, a terrific blend of "Candyman" like scares and Polanski-esque psychological suspense." It's now on my must-see list.

i always thought that guy from the Howard Stern show was a horror film waiting to happen.

This has been cracking me up for the last few days:

Thanks to a hilarious sorting error by Netflix, the Babadook from The Babadook has become a g@y icon

This actually happened late last year, but has been spreading across the Internet as a meme recently due to June being G@y Pride Month.

It might have something to do with the DCU's somewhat underwhelming contributions as of late (WONDER WOMAN aside).

In my case, I haven't seen a DC movie since MAN OF STEEL and I lost interest in comic book movies in general a long time ago. There's the occasional film that captures my attention and money (like LOGAN) but it really depends on how the film looks. If the trailers are showing me the same old Marvel type stuff we've seen a dozen times, then I'm not really interested.

The trailer for BLACK PANTHER looks kinda groovy, though. Even my wife wants to see it and she pretty much hates this stuff.

Hmmmm.... I like the updated operation mechanics for the suits.

I didn't hate the first film, but wasn't entertained enough to warrant a second viewing, either (although I'll probably rewatch before checking this out).

looks worth the watch to me. i really enjoyed the first one, captured the feel of the japanese Kaiju(sp?) shows I watched when i was a sprout, and is pretty rewatchable as well, thanks to both the visuals and the performances. not sure if this one will have the heart of the first but looks to be a fun ride anyway

At a quick glance I'd write this off as another generic new horror film. But with it set in the X-Men universe....yeah, I'm interested. Not theater interested, but definitely home video interested.

Yes, but don't exaggerate. It was only FIVE movies about The Stand.

And while I'll admit that nothing in this teaser bowled me over, I think it sounds great conceptually, and I also think the movie has a shot at being a very potent use of the mutant allegory if they do it right. The first thing the institutionalized setting reminded me of were the Dumbledore conversion boot camps that many teens in our country get sent to (and god only knows what happens to them in the rest of the world). That seems like a perfect subject for a YA X-Men movie to tackle without being too on the nose, and as long as they don't try to do too much with it (stop the glowing thing in the sky, save the planet, etc.), I can see it being a pretty satisfying little entry in the superhero genre. Then again, it could also be a tonally confused mess like Ang Lee's Hulk.
