Like you Locke, most of these guys would be fine and dandy, but I voted Depp because I found him creepy as hell as Willy Wonka, and I would like to see him uncorked in a role that by design calls for over-the-top. JackKnight has a point about Depp's name coming up every time there's an out-of-whack character (Sparrow, Wonka, Even Benny and Joon), but those have all been protagonists (unless I'm forgetting something...he was emotionally disturbed in Secret Window, but not, and forgive the pun, bat-shit crazy.

The Joker I remember reading as a kid and now that scared the hell out of me because he had that mania that made you think ANY f-ed up thing could happen at any moment...but could get deadly cold serious in a snap.

I don't like Penn, because I see an aping of the Nicholson version coming from there. And how does Cusack, who I like, even get on the list? Now, for Hugo Strange....maybe.

I think the beauty of having such a large list like this is you can explore the different directions each actors style would inevitably take the film in.

Some would be better suited to Batshit crazy, others more comic, other would just have different types of screen presence.

For me I'd like to see a Cassel Joker, cool, calm and demonic, he may be crazy but theres a method to his madness, imagine him weilding a blade with the movement of an acrobat/tapdancer? He's been trained in all that stuff and he has a great screen presence that screams out villian, he's got the chops to really pull it off, he'd make you believe he was going to do all the things he threatens to do, Considine, Rockwell, Depp, Day Lewis and Del Toro would all fall in a similar camp I feel.

What about an older looking Joker like Quaid, John Glover or Keaton? Someone with more life experience that may be better at intimidating Bats.

I could go on all night about the guys on the list, lets just hope Nolan picks one of them.

I get to vote for Havoc twice!
Personally, I'm an atheist in the voting booth and a theist in the movie theatre. I separate the morality of religion with the spirituality and solace of it. There is something boring about atheism.

I picked Tim Roth, because nobody voted for him, and he's a great actor...

Crispin Glover would be great for the "freaky freakout nutso crazy" factor, but I seriously doubt, after the brilliantly disturbing insanity of this, and especially this that he is going to be allowed to work in Whoreywood ever again.

Vincent Gallo looks the part, but he takes himself way too seriously, and is a terrible actor. He's always just Vincent Gallo.

Adrien Brody, who was great in The Pianist, and not so great in everything else, might have the nose for the role, but not the attitiude.

Vincent Gallo embodies the joker. He'd have to do little acting. I don't want a joker running around acting, I want to see just a vincent Gallo who laugfs when he does something devius. But still, |I'm really leaning towards the two doctors.

Does Vincent Gallo laugh? Or does he grimly think about how tortured he is as he gets a blowjob from Chloe Sevigny?

On that list, a close call between Depp and Serkis.......but Serkis it is.
Off that list, standing in the (bat)wings, I still think Dennis Hopper or for a completely left-field Joker...one Bruno Ganz.

Do you think I should have added Steve Buscemi or is he too old and or wrong for the part?

I still think he should have played Bruce Banner in Hulk.

Jason Lee is my choice, and an inspired one at that.

Also, an honorable mention to Mark Hamill and Andy Serkis, who can do just about any character imaginable in my opinion.

The ick choice of the list is Sean Penn. Why bother blowing up his ego even further with the role of a lifetime? He doesn't deserve it.

Eeh, fuggit...I'll vote for ya, Shultzy. Just to cast the tie breaker. You're gonna need a SAG card, of course...a minor detail.

Try as I might, I still don't see Glover as The Joker. It just seems like a better idea on paper than in practice. I don't know a better choice off the top of my head, but I wouldn't be in such a rush to cast Glover, even though he seems like a great choice.

You know who'd be a great Riddler? John Malkovich. He practically was The Riddler in In The Line of Fire.

No love for Jude Law as the Joker? He'd be my top choice.

It's not the best pic, but you get the idea. I think Law could really have fun with the role while still bringing out its darker sensibilities.

A lot of people on that list (and Jude Law) could be great jokers but Bettany is the only one with a performance that actually scared me (Gangster No. 1)

Hmm, I think Michael Keaton would be able to pull off a damn good Joker.

Now, if there is ever the slightest chance that a Dark Knight Strikes Back movie is made sometime within the next five years, then Rutger Hauer would be my choice for an older Joker. Make Clint Eastwood Batman and it will be gold.

After all these months I still must say Ray Liotta. Of the choices I believe he would be the most menacing while offering the weirdness the Joker has about him. Any talented actor can play nasty psycho, but Liotta can make it a part of a more nuanced performance.

I'm still going with Considine, although I think Andy Serkis or John Cusack would be fantastic choices.
Considine says that he has a "black fucking hole" that drives his acting, this is very evident in Dead Man's Shoes and A Room For Romeo Brass, he can be an almost matey, charismatic joker while being able to turn on a dime to pure malevolent sadism (and I think sadism is really the heart of the Joker), yet still allow the audience to empathise, but not sympathise with the character.

I've seen Liotta's recent attempts at a villian character *In the Name of the King*, and I'll safely say he would butcher the Joker.

I know, I know. I just couldn't find a pic of Adrien where he wasn't sporting the pout or that goofy grin. But for some reason, the idea of him trying the role is very interesting to me.

But cover up the pouty eyes and lips with your fingers and tell me the rest isn't total Joker. I think Brody can pull evil face if need be. And the fact that we're not use to seeing him do it will probably make it even creepier.

I actually do too. I don't know if he'd be my first choice -- though I don't know who WOULD be my first choice, really -- but I'd be interested in seeing what he did with the role. He's a versatile actor, in my opinion. I've never seen him try to be creepy, but who knows? This is a role that's probably going to be auditioned for anyway, so he'll get his chance. Unless of course it's Tim Roth they want, since he refuses to do auditions.

Out of this list though, Id love to see Sean Penn ham it up as el Joker.
