Posted this in the BNAT forum, but figured I'd share with all y'all.

Based on the 7th Voyage of Sinbad 3 sheet reformatted to a 1 sheet.

Hand painted by Gordon Jones to mimic the style of that original poster.

who's the guy holding the genie bottle?

Cyclops = Father Geek
Sinbad = Harry
Princess = Moriarty
Genie = Tim League (owner of the Drafthouse and Genie)

Now - here's the challenge. You guys - take the poster and make it look old and beat up like a real movie poster from the 50s. the fold lines, tack holes on yellowing aged paper.

Harry

My guess would be that it's Tim League holding the genies lamp. I also have a feeling that the Psyclops is none other than Father Geek himself.

ETA: I was right.

Put us in that movie "God" asked you to make, and then we'll talk, Rojo. We're Zoners, goddangit, we don't come cheap.

Awesome John!

I'm having the posters printed on flat matte paper, technically old paper from the period with the right age. We're also going to have the 7434/05 in the bottom right corner. Heh. If we had time, I'd have every copy folded in eighths just like in the old days - cuz... well, I'm a fucking geek and that's the way it's done.

I'll take my personal copy - put lemon juice on it - bake the poster in the oven - and age it, degrade it and then get it linen backed. Heh.

I'm such a geek.

Harry, you inspire us all with your geekdom. I may have to have a little attempt of my own to get a poster made of it.

Anyone know what Grande Rojo is referring to here? By the way, the one-sheet is on the main site, and Grande Rojo used John-Locke's version, where he aged the design!

Great stuff JL!

Hey thanks for the heads up Pacino, It is my version but it's been color corrected again, cool none the less.

Hairy just linked the zone on the main site at the bottom of the BNAT article, I wonder how many people will follow the link?

Yeah, but the link has a semi-colon instead of a colon and you a 404 error if you try to follow it.

1. Approximately 90% of all original one-sheets printed between 1939 and 2000 were distributed by the National Screen Service (NSS) and have NSS code numbers stamped on bottom margins or on their backs.

2. Up to the mid-1980s, most one-sheets were shipped folded. (Many still are.) Thus, most vintage posters will exhibit this creasing.

3. Motion picture studios often used more than one poster to promote a film, and each poster was designated a different "style." The style ("Style A," "Style B," etc.) was usually printed in a poster's lower border.

I had to Google this myself to be sure. The NSS. I didn't know about the folding.

Welcome aboard, SD. This place can be a little overwhelming at first, there's alot of in-jokes and self-referential stuff going on, so if you don't know something, ask.

*raises hand*

Guilty as charged! I clicked the link! I was one of those who was a part of the raffle for stand-by spots this morning at BNAT, but didn't make it in! I am really happy for those who did, though! I can't wait to hear what the line-up of movies was. I did hear in line this morning that it was probably going to last more like 28 hours instead of 24 hours. :D

28 hours???!!! WTF? Brocktune & Wonka are going to be fuckered, I still wish I was there though.

I wish I was there, too! I tried to eavesdrop on as much as I could since I was pretty close to the door, and I did overhear something that gave me an idea about one of the movies they'll be seeing and I wish I was there to see it. *sigh* Oh well! Maybe I will have better luck next year getting into it! At least I have SXSW to look forward to in March! :)
