Well, the first 10-15 pages were LaDracul posting "scoops" from a Channing Tatum fansite or preaching about how there were many people that like the works of Stephen Sommers.

There is a article over at CHUD regarding the "Sommers is fired" thing:

We spoke with Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura about this whole firing mess and here's what he had to say:

Lorenzo: Its very unfair to Steve, its completely untrue he was never asked to leave or been fired or any of that. That’s ridiculous. The movie tested very well.

I hear it tested as good as the first Transformers.

Lorenzo: Well listen, we tested very well and I don’t compare the movies because they are different movies, but you know I think its really destructive for a director…It hurts a guy's career when people go around talking about that he was fired or he didn’t do a good job and truth is he did a really good job. People are going to enjoy the movie and the test audiences enjoyed the movie.

He did a very good job the movie tested well and it couldn’t be more false that the studio in anyway did anything negatively to Steve.

So what really happened in the editing room?

Lorenzo: Nothing that doesn’t happen on every other movie, which is that you constantly work and work and work and you make it better and better. We had a delay on visual effects so we waited a long time to finish the movie but that’s the only thing. I don’t really know why that would be interpreting it negatively but I guess it was.

In regards to the testing the film has had so far:

Lorenzo: Everybody was happy, the studio was happy, the filmmakers were happy, the audience was happy with the movie. We had three test screenings, three different times and tested it and each time it just got better and better. We started off in a good place and we ended up in even in a better place, which is what you hope on a film from testing it.

Notice how he didn't refute the thing with Hasbro... Because anyone who's seen minute one of those trailers know this movie is doomed, best they can hope for is riftrax keeping intrest alive down the road.

Considering both this and Transformers are Hasbro/Paramount/Bonventura things, I'm still surprised that they didn't use the army guys from Transformers as the basis of GI Joe.

In defense of StormShadow, isn't he wearing a long-tailed dinner jacket when he first appears? He's done up in some sort of high-fashion gear over his fighting suit, including pointy-toed shoes with fairly high heels. I'm pretty sure the tails are not part of his fighting suit.

Besides, it's G.I. Joe, folks. I defy anyone, even Larry Hama, to make a good Joe movie. It's intrinsically ridiculous and so has to play to comedy, IMO, unless it wants to be a movie for ten-and-unders.

i can easily imagine a version of gi joe that isn't necessarily realistic, but also isn't stoopid and ALF. and some humor would be fine, as long as it was actually funny.

Better? Yeah, definetly.

But those "excelerator suits" still make it unwatchable for me. I know they may only be in the movie for 10 minutes or so, but still, what were these guys thinking adding robot suits to this movie knowing that the Transformers would still be top of mind?

the latest cartoon version was called Sigma 6 and had similar suits, I'm guessing that's what they were thinking espically keeping the 6 moniker behind it calling them Delta 6 or something suits

still looks just as stupid and ALF to me. but it doesn't look any MORE stupid and ALF than it already did, so i guess that's progress of a sort... because everything else up to this point has looked even stupider and retardeder than what came before it.

storm shadow's mask looks like it was sewed together by a blind elf who is missing most of his fingers.

I find it funny that the writers choose to use plot points from what many consider THE worst G.I. Joe cartoon. EVEN MORE THAN GI JOE EXTREME!!!!!

I wanted to write something lastnight but i wasn't really in the mood and i'm still not in the mood really. I will say this though, this was much better than i was thinking it would be. I walked in there with extremely low expectations and came out mildly surprised. The print i saw was a work print so there were some unfinished effects and other things that needed to be touched up. For those who followed the comic you may be disappointed with some of the backstory (like i was) but let's face it, any comic that hollywood translates to film they are sure to add some of there own content whether we like it or not.

ok here's my question

I know Brenden Frasier is in the film, is he a Joe we know from the comics (I've heard GUNG-HO and SHIPWRECK both) or is he just an unnamed cameo

Brendan Frasier is in this film for about 5 minutes early in the film. I believe they said his name but i couldn't catch it but he is wearing a beret just like Flint or Lt. Falcon so he might be either character.

I find it interesting that in the "Zone's Most Anticipated Movie of 2009" thread, GI Joe has only one vote. Yet, this thread has made it to 20 pages.

Yeah, but 18 pages of that are Sommers-bashing.

Not that it isn't deserved!

It's 15 pages of scaring off LaDracul with our insensitive anti-Sommers rants. I wish she had thicker skin... it was usually hilarious to see someone defend something so shit-tacular.

Agreed. It started out as genuine excitement, followed by dread, followed by mild curiosity, followed by sheer revulsion, and lastly with the current state of morbid curiosity.

according to Steve at Collider.com those robo suits are only in the Paris sequence and he had a generally positive reactions

however he said he couldn't follow the action in Quantum of Solace so I don't know how much stock I should put in his opinon

I may be wrong but those robo-suits are probably not featured throughout the entire movie. Probably just one or two scenes.

I'm definitely curious, and I'll even admit to liking The Mummy. :)

And most of The Mummy Returns. :?

And some of the action scenes in Van Helsing.

But NOT Scorpion King.

Yeah, I know/knew the robo-suits weren't the main focus of the film, but it seems like they are integral to the main action scene... and 15 minutes can be an eternity if its 15 minutes of stupidity.

the robo-suits are only ONE thing that makes this look so bad...
there's the guy playing duke, who only seems to have one dopey expression on his face at all times...
there's the ridiculous crap with the doctor aka cobra commander...
there's the mask-less destro and the runway fashion model storm shadow...
there's snake-eyes' "mouth"...
there's the look-alike costumes for nearly every joe character...

on the positive side, there's.... um.... hm.

Half of that point would be that he's a bad-ass when it comes to fight scenes.
The other half comes from the fact that Snake-Eyes doesn't speak.

so I'm watching the cartoon and I got to thinking about what Joes in the inevitable sequel obviously Flint, Lady Jaye, and Shipwreck

BUT

watching it made me realize why didn't they just cast Marlon Waynes as Shipwreck--smart ass, quick talking, comedic relief

sounds like a perfect match to me, although I'm sure they'd be plenty of bitching about changing his race

Re: YO JOE! G.I. Joe Live-Action Movie

I have the feeling that JOE will be better then Transformers 2 and Terminator 4.
It just looks like more fun, maybe a combination of good action scenes like in T4 + good FX like in Trans2 - 90 minutes of shit in Trans2 - the fucked up ending of T4. and minus Bale of course.
I have no baggage regarding JOE, since it was never ever a big or even small deal over here in Germany. So I can just enjoy it for what it is.
and seeing Ray Park do his thing is always good.

I also never knew anything about the cartoons or comics growing up. Some kids played with some of the dolls, but I have no attachment to the source material.

And this does look like the best of the summer's big budget blockbuster entertainment spectacles and I am looking forward to it.

I did not see Terminator 4 because I just don't care. Maybe I'll rent it eventually. And I did not see Transformers 2: Rise of The Fallen because I hated the first one, hate Michael Bay, and hope that this will be the first Bay film I can actually avoid seeing. A bunch of my friends saw it, and I could hear in their voices that even they thought it basically sucked even though they were trying to emphasize the positive in their words.

But G.I. Joe looks like a good simple story along the lines of Team America.

T4 is worth a watch just for the fantastic Action scenes.
I first watched a ripped version of the movie at home, but the action looked so spectecular even on my PC screen, I had to go to a theater and enjoy the action on the Big Screen! Sure a fantastic pick for your Blue Ray set up Spandau.
Transformers did nothing for me, it was like I expected more of the same shit.
