GHOSTBUSTERS! 3! GBs in 3D???

Okay. I know that the rumors for this movie have pretty much been debunked (at least, the last I heard about it) seeing as Farley is no longer with us and other issues (Murray not really wanting to be in it). However, I recently found this article http://www.hollywood.com/news/detail/id/3467374 dated 11/06/05. They make it sound like it's trying to be made. Well, which is it?! I would love this movie, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

I wrote a Ghostbusters 3 fan script WAAAAAY back in the day (1998), when the film really seemed like it was going to happen maybe. I'm not sure if I want to link it here, as it'll get ripped into all kind of shreds, and rightly so. It had some cool moments but mostly it was fanboy dreck at its purest. Bringing back a lot of old characters, cartoon references, etc. Still, it sounds like it was better than the "Hellbent" script with the hydrocephalic telepath joining the team.

What I think would resurrect the Ghostbusters franchise nicely would be a well done live action Ghostbusters television show.

One idea I thought would be cool would be having it so that the Ghostbusters have gone franchise, and they've made a TV deal where they basically make a show like COPS, where the camera crews follow them around on busts. That's a portion of the show, all handheld and videotape. Then there's the other side, which is a more standard kind of drama, filmed more elegantly. Ideally the busts would have something to do with the storyline, and there'd be storylines spanning several seasons and stuff like that.

Might work someday, and if I'm ever in the right room with the right people I won't hesitate to pitch it. But a good TV show of any kind could pave the way for a renewal of the theatrical franchise.

I always wanted to see a third movie there, seemed to me that the sequel to Ghostbusters should have been done sooner than '89, odd that they seemed to drag their heels on the whole works. Maybe it was Bill Murray's fault? no?

They are using some of Ramis' interview but not all of it, he says when they were considering the idea of a sequel they tossed round some names of upcoming actors for the roles :

I like the series Idea

With Showtime and HBO doing what they do in television, you could get like 12 episodes or more a season and get like 12 hours of it over the one and a half of a movie, and go diferent directions.

Add the Cops format , and drag in the origional four with new stuff and you got a winner.

Now you need real good writers.

Back about 5 years ago, me and a friend wrote a script for Ghostbusters 3 in Mexico. It was called Ghostbusters 3: The return of Ghostula. It featured Tom Waits as Ghostula and took place in the sewers. I can't remember much past that.

There's no real reason not to do it now as long as it sticks to the dour spirit of the original. I mean, the sequel's good, but it's not a patch on the grit of the first.

Have a group of San Fran based computer/science geeks take up the mantle when the ecto-levels rise in their town and inadvertently cause havoc. To make things worse, their ineptitude attracts some kind of asian ghosts from folklore (they're scary, trust me) and a demon who wants to bring on the next quake and eat the souls of newborns. Something like that! Akroyd and Ramis' characters have to be brought in to round up the ghosts and teach them the tricks of the trade.

No.1 - fresh location.
No.2 - new faces.
No.3 - some familiarity.
No.4 - a threat that cannot be humanised.

Ghostbusters is my fave movie. GB2, I've not seen in YEARS. I should buy it again... I know I don't like it so much, but it was a kiddie favourite.

If they do this, threy should do it right! GB2 fell into the trap of self-parody, which didn't work because it was already a comedy. The original was a deadpan comedy first and a special effects film second - the issue with GB2 and Evolution was they favoured effects and situations over the characters. Sounds the same with this script.

the line that always gets me is when all the Ghostbusters are chiming in with their own version of a disaster of Biblical Proportions, Earthquakes, volcanoes, the dead rising from the grave..
and Venkman comes up with - "Dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria"


Just this year Akroyd had annoucned the film was dead.
Maybe that harnered new attention?

I don't wanna see either of these two guys in a Ghostbusters uniform.
And I defintiely don't want a REMAKE.

All new Ghostbusters or nothing. Maybe Will Ferrel, Steve Carrell can join the cast. And while Murray may have gotten bit by the "I'm too good for this" bug, can't anyone tell me Ernie Hudson, Rock Miranis and Harold Ramis are too busy for this project. The last good movie Ernie Hudson was in was the Crow. Moranis: Honey I shrunk The Kids. And Ramis? even though he scored a hit with Analyze this and that those movies were crap. The last good thing he did was the screenplay for Groundhogs Day and a bit part in Orange County.

Nah, not as in ecto rises as in the second film. I don't remember much beyond "he slimed me" in the first.

Maybe something more insidious. If you read up on Asian ghosts there's some crazy stuff you can do outside of our definitions.
