Javier Bardem confirms he is next Bond villain
Chris Nashawaty wrote:After months of speculation about who would play the villain in the next James Bond installment, we finally have an answer, friendo: Javier Bardem. During an interview with Christiane Amanpour on Nightline, in which the Spanish actor talked about his involvement with a charity to help west Saharan refugees, Bardem confirmed that he would be playing the bad guy in Bond 23. “I am very excited. My parents took me to watch the movies and I saw all of them. So to play that is going to be fun,” Bardem said about his joining the 00-franchise. “They chose me to play this man, but I cannot give you many details.”

So I guess Chicken Little was right. The sky is falling and the title of the next film will be SKYFALL. Can't Bond movies work some element of luxury into their compound word titles anymore? Like GOLDSKYFALL or something?

The Daily Mail wrote:No one from the production was giving anything away but Eve will become the new Miss Moneypenny marking the first time the character has appeared in a Bond film since Samantha Bond played her in Die Another Day back in 2002.

The Daily Mail revealed the Moneypenny connection several weeks ago and film officials have said they won't confirm it on the record.

Finally, I can't wait for the origin of Moneypenny! Or well, erm... I'm looking forward to the movie anyway.

From Bleedinhg Cool:
Daniel Craig Reportedly Offered Five More Bond Films; Skyfall Has “Magical Goldfinger Feel”
Though they haven’t given a quote to this exact effect, and even manage one that slightly contradicts it, The People are reporting that Wilson and his colleagues in producing the Bond series have offered Craig a deal for five more Bond films after Skyfall:
James Bond actor Daniel Craig has been offered a multi-million pound deal to become the longest serving 007 of all time…

In an exclusive interview with The People, Wilson told how he would love him to do five more.

He said: “It’s certainly something we’ll be discussing with him once we finish shooting Skyfall. Filming has gone very well so far and I’d love Daniel to surpass Roger’s record and do eight pictures. Daniel’s been an absolute pleasure to be around because he takes the role so seriously. There’s really no one more passionate about making these films work than him – he’s a film maker’s dream.”

Puh! Fuck that. He's good for 2 more at least, he ain't getting any younger, and he don't have a youthful looking face anyway to begin with.

I have my doubts about Craig as Bond too. Yeah he works well so far, but that's only 2 movies in. For another 6 including Skyfall he can't keep up that same serious approach going and I'm not sure Craig can lighten up and be more humourous so well, or if I want him to even do that.

Craig can be a cold fish as an actor in things I've seen him in outside of Bond and I don't think audiences can attach themselves that well to him. Maybe one reason why he hasn't been a box office success outside of Bond and is on thin ice if he can continue as a lead actor in films.

Maybe that 'cold fish' persona can work for Bond, but not sure for 6 more films, and if we're gonna explore other parts of Bondage with Daniel Craig, it better be some interesting parts of Bond that this actor can pull off well. Maybe more curious parts of him, his weaknesses, his darker side, a possible relish of his job, the action, the violence, can Craig successfully play more sympathetic sides of him? Etc. etc. etc....

Best thing about that article is it linked to a crew list at the bottom of this page that suggest they kicked out the Wankers who helped nearly ruin the last film, and got back to Casino Royale basics...

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/11/06/ ... ood-stuff/

Not sure if that Bourne action director or whatever his job was that helped fuck up Quantum is back or not though.

Craig is going to start looking like Mick Jagger any day now. Most women I know find it repulsive to watch Craig snogging these young birds now, let alone in ten years. I really don't see him still doing this role in a decade. It's nice and ambitious to aim to beat Roger Moore's record, but really, maybe you should look at Moore's final Bond installments and reconsider. Moore looked like such an old man. It was pitiful. He should've gone out on a high note with FOR YOUR EYES ONLY as his last.

I hear yas. I put Moore down as leaving the series after Moonraker myself, but yeah, maybe going out on such a down to earth Bond instalment was wiser.

Thing is, Moore was considered to be an overstayer of his welcome regarding the role. Those last Bonds were rather despised, and we don't need Craig to repeat that. 4-5 Bonds is tops for an actor I think.

I'm not sure about his looks either. He's not a young looking chap, but that aside many females I talk to do question if he's good looking enough for the role. Masculine yes. Good looking enough? Not so sure.

If I have the story straight, the producers twisted Moore's arm into staying on for those last two. He wanted to leave and his jealous wife was objecting more and more to him rolling around with these young birds in the movies. But they hadn't found a replacement so they kept stroking Moore's ego with flattery and money so he stayed on.

As for Craig's attractiveness, I think maybe older women like him in a macho rough sort of way. My mum fancies him. But most younger women I know don't like seeing him with such young-looking women. They all say he looks like he could be their dad. I think Gemma Arterton was actually a teenager when she did QUANTUM, which is sorta sleazy. I think they'd be better off to match him up with women in their 30s or even 40s. Women like Marion Cotillard or Penelope Cruz who are beautiful and glamorous, but have a maturity and pressence so that the romance doesn't look as creepy.

I like that blue-tinted shot (is it in Berlin?) with Bond in the foreground, the lady in the building across the way, and the skyline in the background. Well framed and good use of colour.

That last image reminds me of how Brosnan didn't like being asked to fire automatic weapons as Bond. He thought assault rifles were too Rambo, and Bond should be more elegant. When I see that image I tend to agree with him, it's not very Bondy, but the rest of those images do look like they are from a James Bond movie.

Have they officially announced Adele as the singer for the theme song, or is that just the strongest rumor right now?

that was the first thing I thought when I saw that shot. also like the limited depth of focus. I tend to like directors who make movies where there are shots that could be considered as really good photos, as if they lined up a series of single shots and then built a scene around each of them. I guess that is why I love Hitchcock movies so much

Looks pretty bad ass to me. Didn't catch Quantum of Solace, and didn't really like Casino Royale from what I can remember about it. But this trailer has me intrigued...

THAT SAID, I do look forward to a future Bond franchise/actor that doesn't take itself so seriously. I like fun Bond too!

The cinematography looked great in that trailer. I've never actually noticed the lighting in a James Bond movie before. Looks like a solid movie with an original enough premise for a Bond film.

Even though I've enjoyed both of Craig's entries in the series, I too prefer Bond to be more fun and pulpy.

They're going to start rolling on the next Craig one right away and it wouldn't surprise me if after that he did some other movie, like the next DRAGON TATTOO film, and then came back for one more Bond before they moved onto a new actor.

Having come into Bond awareness during the tail end of the Roger Moore period, I much prefer the serious aspects of the Craig films. Roger Moore is just too cheesy for my tastes.

"Gun?" "Shot."
"Agent?" "Provocateur."
"Murder?" "Employment."
"Skyfall?" "Done."

I feel like I'm setting myself up for disappointment here, because part of the reason I liked Quantum of Solace as much as I did is that I saw the preview maybe once (due to sheer indifference), on TV, and walked in expecting absolutely nothing. With Skyfall I've been following the production eagerly and have probably watched that teaser about 5 times. But it's fucking gorgeous, what else can I say? Mendes and Deakins look like they brought it for this one.

That sounds about right. Ben Whishaw is a good actor, so he can sell sexy autistic with the best of them.

Not to stereotype, but I find the negative reactions on AICN hilarious. Not only do a fair amount of those guys probably know their way around a computer, but most of them are probably way nerdier than Hip Sheldon.

I don't know this actor playing Q, but I don't have any problems with a younger Q.

And I can't believe they still haven't at least announced who will sing the theme song.

Anyway, looking forward to this a lot more than I have either of the other Craig entries in the series.

Spandau Belly wrote:Have they officially announced Adele as the singer for the theme song, or is that just the strongest rumor right now?

Screenrant.com wrote:The merry melodies of the James Bond franchises have been performed by quite the diverse collection of musicians over the years, including Paul McCartney & the Wings, Nancy Sinatra, Alicia Keys with Jack White, Rita Coolidge, A-ha, Shirley Bassey, Carly Simon, Sheena Easton, Duran Duran, Chris Cornell, Garbage, and Madonna - among many others. Opinions varyabout which artists delivered the best tunes – McCartney’s “Live and Let Die” usually ranks high – and whose Bond theme songs were, at best, utterly forgettable.

Rumors have been circulating for months now that hearty-voiced Brit sensation Adele will be performing the theme song for this fall’s Skyfall, the 23rd installment in the ongoing saga of Agent 007 (and third film featuring Daniel Craig as Bond). We now have confirmation that the singer behind such chart-toppers as “Rolling in the Deep” and “Set Fire to the Rain” is indeed composing and singing the Skyfall theme song.

Showbiz 411 writer Roger Friedman has the exclusive on Adele being onboard for Skyfall, him being the source behind the rumors that began circulating earlier this year. So far the general response is positive, with most fans dubbing Adele’s soulful performance style as a good match for Bond. If nothing else, her 007 song should be a far cry from the less-liked pop music compositions in previous films (Madonna’s “Die Another Day,” being a prime example).

so sorry wrote:This is the kind of shit that makes Marketing Managers drool. All this hype around the freaking THEME SONG to a movie, generating such buzz.

I think only Bond films get such buzz. They're the only films that have theme songs any more.

I never really got into Adele. Frankly, got sick of hearing a couple of her songs over and over again everywhere I went. I do, however, like this one. I think she's a good fit, and the song is very evocative of old-school, classic Bond. When I first heard it the other day, I was definitely reminded of Goldfinger at first.

I did also really like "Another Way to Die" by Jack White & Alicia Keys. Cool song. I'm not saying this one is better, but it certainly hearkens back to a previous era.

Can't wait to see this movie. Definitely excited to see what Sam Mendes brings to the table.

"Less of a random killing machine, more of a personal statement." Cool line.

I like the song. It's not really showy or attention-grabbing nor full of vocal gymnastics. It's nice and smooth and it fits well with the classic sound that I associate most with the series.

First rounds of reviews for Skyfall are coming in....and they are pretty universally glowing so far! I think early reviews for anticipated movies tend to skew a little positive as many reviewers seem to just be happy to be seeing the film before everyone else, but the reviews I've read are exceptionally positive praising, in particular, Mendes and Craig.

Running at 100% at RT right now, 12 reviews in.

beware a couple of spoilery reviews....

After being a bit unimpressed with QoS, I'm quite optimistic.

I think studios do tend to screen films early for audiences they know will like it to get good word out.

But in this case, I think it's going to be a really good Bond movie. The trailer shows a good premise for the plot, cool stunts, nice cinematography, a good cast, and a good director. Really looking forward to this one.

What have you been watching? (Cinema)

Without further ado, this movie is very good.

Sam Mendes does a great job of bringing the Bond movie franchise full circle for it's 50th birthday.

There are some nice callbacks to some highlights and there are a few surprises along the way. The movie has great setpieces and the story is very solid.

Javier Bardem shows up a hour in and he steals the movie right away. He would be a great Joker if they bring the Joker back someday.

Craig does his Bond thing, so if you liked him so far, you will like him even more after Skyfall. If you dont think he's a good Bond, this movie will not change your mind about that.

Ralph Fiennes is a nice addition to the Franchise, so is Ben Whitshaw who plays Q.

I dont want to say anything more since the movie has not opened in america and canada, but I am sure there will be some talk after the movie opens there.

See this movie, it's worth your money.

Also, I must say that I found the interrogation/seduction scene between Bond and Silva to be quite sensual. And I'm a straight man.
