'Mr. Robot' Actor to Star in Sci-Fi Thriller 'Parallel' (Exclusive)
Borys Kit wrote:Martin Wallstrom, one of the stars of USA's Mr. Robot, has signed on to star in Parallel, a sci-fi indie from Bron Media Corp and Bellevue Productions.

Isaac Ezban is directing the feature, which follows four young app entrepreneurs who discover a mirror in the attic of their rental house that's a portal to parallel universes, with a time differential that makes it possible for them to access the future of these alternate worlds and bring it back home.

Wallstrom will play the leader of the group, who uses the time warp to make a fortune off of tech that doesn’t yet exist in their present world.

Scott Blaszak wrote the script. John Zaozirny, Aaron Gilbert and Garrick Dion are producing the pic.

The Swedish-born Wallstrom plays the conflicted bad guy Tyrell Wellick on Mr. Robot, currently one of TV’s cult hits. The actor recently wrapped production on the Soviet drama Ashes in the Snow with Bel Powley.

Wallstrom is repped by UTA, Principato Young, Agent Firman (Sweden) and Gang Tyre.

The book centers on a world in which decades of technological advances have been suppressed in an effort to prevent disruptive change.

‘Deadpool 2’ Loses Director Tim Miller
Angie Han wrote:The parting between Miller and Deadpool 2 is reportedly amicable, and in fact, Miller already has another 20th Century Fox project lined up. With Deadpool 2 off his to-do list, he’ll dive right into Influx, written by Mark Bomback and based on David Suarez’s novel. The film is expected to be the first in a trilogy.

Film Review: ‘The Founder’
John Lee Hancock's knowingly mistitled biopic of McDonald's mogul Ray Kroc proves an unexpectedly piquant moral parable for the Trump era.
Guy Lodge wrote:Any habitual McDonald’s diner knows that their burgers are nothing without the pickle. The nominal beef patty tastes more like an evocation of meat than an honest slab of steer, and there’s no secret weapon in that cheap, cotton-wool bun. But it’s those two sharp, green slices of vinegary tang, set in relief by a sweet smear of ketchup, that really contain all the brand’s essential flavor. By the same token, it’s the dash of pickle in Robert Siegel’s script — a streak of sour, cheek-puckering cynicism amid its warmer, blander conventions — that gives “The Founder” its mojo. A ruefully titled biopic of Ray Kroc — the man who didn’t found McDonald’s but ruthlessly made it what it is — John Lee Hancock’s glowingly crafted, smartly acted film largely holds the cheese. It spins a classical tale of underdog entrepreneurship and American Dream-chasing with one eccentric twist: Its chief hero and villain are the same person.

Whether audiences will respond en masse to a film that slides so much corrosive irony beneath its gleaming, awards-season veneer remains to be seen. Not since “Steve Jobs” has such a bright prestige spotlight been granted to such a nakedly venal protagonist, played by Michael Keaton with an easy, puppy-eating grin and unhinged salesman’s patter that makes his narcissistically self-pitying character from “Birdman” look positively cuddly by comparison.

Peter Jackson & Fran Walsh Rev ‘Mortal Engines’
Directing Debut For ‘Hobbit’ VFX Protege Christian Rivers
Mike Fleming Jr wrote:After years of developing the Philip Reeve book series Mortal Engines, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh have set the project at MRC and Universal, with their Hobbit VFX protege Christian Rivers making his feature directorial debut. Production will begin next spring in New Zealand. MRC and Universal will co-finance what they hope will spark another potential franchise for Jackson and Walsh, who adapted the script with Philippa Boyens, their writing partner on both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Scholastic published the first book in 2001 and four followed in the sci-fi fantasy series.

Reeve’s book has a storyline that sounds a bit like Mad Max: Fury Road; only here, it’s the geography that moves in a post apocalyptic world. It’s a distant future where the cities of earth roam the globe on huge wheels, consuming smaller towns and processing all reusable materials to create power to run the engines that make the cities mobile and able to gobble up more and more of the planet’s dwindling resources. London’s mayor has bigger plans than the domination of a small town and several young people try to stop him. Universal will distribute worldwide. Ken Kamins, longtime manager of Jackson, Walsh and Boyens, brought the book to MRC, which now has another big post apocalyptic franchise to go along with its Sony-based adaptation of the Stephen King novel series The Dark Tower. Zane Weiner, Amanda Walker and Deborah Forte will produce along with Walsh and Jackson, while Kamins will exec produce and Boyens will be co-producer.

Said Rivers: “Mortal Engines is one of those stories that was made for the big screen. A fantastical, futuristic world that has to be seen to be believed. At its heart though, it’s a beautiful love story and a richly complex character driven adventure. To be the director who gets to bring Philip Reeve’s incredible universe to life is a dream come true.”

Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley called the filmmakers “all visionary storytellers with the gift of turning their passion projects into beloved blockbusters for a worldwide audience. The studio is proud of our longstanding relationship with MRC and these tremendous filmmakers, and we are looking forward to collaborating on this cinematic re-imagination of Philip’s bold and fantastical novel.”

I still love the general concept of this festival. Really, it seems like a lot of fun. But another aspect of the early years was Harrys interactions with the visitors to his site. He would constantly post in the Talkbacks and engage with people. His financial troubles killed a lot of goodwill with them and he has done nothing to help mend those fractures. Ten years ago I would have loved to attend to put faces to all of the names - the names of the AICN staff, the Talkbackers, Zoners, and even an actor or two. And then there were the exclusive premieres. And then, on top of all that, there were the eclectic films he'd pull out.

Now I feel I could put on just as good of a show between Netflix, Amazon Prime, and my cable On-Demand.

I wish Harry would take care of whatever he needs to take care of.
I miss the excitement behind his festival.

I still enjoy the Fake List. I watched 3/4 of his fake list one year. Had a blast doing it, too.

Years ago one of our own (JohnLocke) went to a BNaT and posted some pics and stories, and seemed like a blast. I too, thought long and hard about attending the year after that one, but all it takes one look at costs, being a married man with kids (back then I think my first daughter was 2) the costs just outweighed the desire.

fuck it, I never liked the idea of jumping through hoops to amuse someone else's whim, the whole thing is about as narcissistic as it gets, it's like something Cartman would think up. H@rry can only view the world with himself at the center, just look at how he writes, he is unable to describe anything without a personal reference to himself, his own personal experience always seems to be at the center of his reviews of other people's work. he creates this event to throw a big birthday party for himself, makes people do more than just beg for a chance to come, and acts all magnanimous as if he is doing us all a big favor. fucking jerry

This isn't new. From the get-go Harry has explained that his philosophy of film review is that the reviewer's personal life affects how a film is perceived so that's why he includes those details in his reviews. I think he said it every time someone jumped on his shit about his Godzilla reviews. I'm not really defending it nor do I think he's a great font of cinema criticism but he has been advertising it since he flipped the site on in 98.

The Book Of Henry Poster Reveals The Secret Plans For Colin Trevorrow’ Jurassic World Follow-up
Peter Sciretta wrote:Colin Trevorrow’s The Book Of Henry is a movie I’ve been curious about for some time. It’s an interesting choice to helm this small film after directing one of the biggest box office successes of all time. But the truth is, we don’t really know much about The Book of Henry. The book told a story of events that led up to a Monday morning in August 1945 when a five-ton bomb—dubbed Little Boy by its creators—was dropped from an American plane onto the Japanese city of Hiroshima, soon to be followed by another that devastated Nagasaki. The first blast left one-third of its 300,000 people dead and the city incinerated, and the dawn of the Atomic Age was launched. The book told the stories that led up to the fateful day, from the scientists who worked secretly on the Manhattan Project, some out of fear the Nazis would unleash one first if they didn’t, to President Truman White House that believed the Japanese would never give up and that countless casualties would be the result in a prolonged war, to the Japanese who witnessed the devastation and unimaginable horrors.

Fukunaga helmed Beasts of No Nation and Amini wrote Drive and co-wrote the Tomas Alfredson-directed Snowman with Michael Fassbender, as well as the upcoming AMC series McMafia. Fukunaga and Amini together scripted the TNT adaptation of the Caleb Carr novel The Alienist. Fukunaga is hard at work on Maniac, the Netflix series that will reunite Superbad‘s Jonah Hill and Emma Stone.

Executive Vice President of Production Erik Baiers will oversee the project for Universal. Fukunaga is represented by WME, Anonymous Content and Lichter, Grossman. Amini is represented by WME and Curtis Brown Group in the U.K.

I predict most of the publicity from this Hiroshima movie will be from Republicans deriding it as liberal propaganda.

I remember liking Fat Man and Little Boy when it came out. Haven't seen it since. Hopefully this is a quality film.

i predict Donald Trump will criticize the film for inaccurately telling the story of how the country of Hiroshima attacked Texas by strapping 3 million atomic bombs onto the backs of illegal immigrants smuggled into the country by Hillary Clinton, and even worse, completely failing to mention his election win, which was the hugest margin of victory of any election in the past 500 years.

Re: MARIAN

BRIE LARSON, DAISY RIDLEY, & ALICIA VIKANDER CIRCLING AS THE HOTTEST SPEC IN TOWN GEARS UP FOR THE WEEKEND!
Now on everyone’s radar, Pete Barry’s red-hot spec MARIAN has fast become the talk of the town as A-List producers and stars fight for territories.

Out from Paradigm’s David Boxerbaum, the project, which is being pitched as a grounded female-driven reimagining of the legend of Robin Hood, now has multiple producers requesting territories, as we can continue to exclusively track the moves. As previously reported, Alicia Vikander was the first star to begin to circle, and now we’re hearing both Daisy Ridley and Brie Larson are in the mix for select territories with packages that include producers Simon Kinberg, Steven Spielberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, Tripp Vinson, Doug Belgrad, Shawn Levy and Micheal De Luca amongst others. Each is eyeing this project as the start of a new female-driven franchise for their home studio, and as we all know, star-driven packages make everything more that much quicker.

Vikander, Ridley and Larson, who are no strangers to the Hollywood tentpole with the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot (Vikander), the series of Star Wars films (Ridley) and the upcoming Avengers and Captain Marvel films (Larson), have all become some of the fastest-rising and most recognizable faces coming out of Hollywood, and as they begin to circle, you know studios are already looking ahead to the franchise potential. Factor in the built-in IP of Robin Hood (even as a reimagining) and the growing expectation on foreign box office, and even though only one of these women will land the lead role of Marian, any studio will still come out a winner.

Having hit the town last night as a top secret spec (sans title page or logline), the project created a frenzy of buzz as execs fought for a chance to read, and talk of those who had read it spread across the early Oscar parties of the week. Once revealed to be a female-driven franchise starter, the talk quickly turned to action, as the fight to get the script intensified.

Boxerbaum, who has now sold seven spec scripts in as many weeks, may have just introduced us to one of the biggest bidding wars of 2017, as only 24 hours after the script started going out, and as the territories at every single studio begin to be fought over, we can only sit and wait to see which star wins the role, which producer wins the territory, and which studio wins their next franchise.

Set to be produced by Rock Shaink and his Romark Entertainment, who also previously teamed up with Paradigm to sell the spec script Matriarch to Paramount, Marian is represented by David Boxerbaum of Paradigm and Andrea Dimity of Pannon Entertainment.

Keep it here as we continue to track this into the night…

She'll be wasted in a boring role that doesn't stretch her acting skills and will probably be sexually objectioned to just for wearing a miniskirt. Roll on the overly PC rants of boring grown up Zoners accusing of sexism on Facebook in 3, 2, 1...
