The Flash (Fred Claus in, wtf DC??)

All the dirt. All the top secret stuff. Anything that has to do with the process of getting us to sit and watch something projected on the big screen.

I wonder which version of The Flash Goyer was going for. I assume Barry Allen, him probably being the most well known. It'd be good to form some kind of gestalt from each of the different Flash characters.

He has said many times it would have been Wally West. As Balm said, Goyer had remarked he was working with and MIT physicist to get some of the science stuff down. So I imagine it would have been a sci-fi heavy film as well. Dealing with a lot of the ramifications of a man being able to move that fast.

Goyer probably would have lobbied to have Ryan Reynolds play Barry Allen. Fuckin' gross.

Whoever gets it done, I just hope they do go with Barry Allen. It seems like you could do a lot with his police scientist (read: CSI) alter ego.

Whoever gets this film is going to have to be able to handle some stunning visuals.

The colors alone will be fun to play with. Red and Gold streaking across the screen. I never read any Barry Allen stories...I came around during Johns run on The Flash and I loved Wally West.

Come to think of it. With Johns' background in film I wouldn't mind him writing the script. Doesn't solve the director problem though.

Night at the Museum helmer Shawn Levy will direct Warner Bros. Pictures' The Flash, the big-screen adaptation of the DC Comics speedster hero, says The Hollywood Reporter. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing and Levy may produce as well.

Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert, The Flash has the ability to run and move extremely fast, use superhuman reflexes and violate certain laws of physics, like time travel.

David Goyer, who co-wrote Batman Begins for Warners, had been attached to write, direct and produce a screen adaptation. But Goyer quietly left the project several months ago, though it was not until Friday that he announced his departure on his MySpace page.

The trade adds that Levy, who before "Museum" had been known for such comedies as Cheaper by the Dozen and The Pink Panther, has no intention of making "Flash" a comedy but is aiming for a lighter movie than previous Warners comic book adaptations, such as Batman Begins and Superman Returns. Goyer's "Flash" also had been dark-themed.

Levy will oversee the writing of the new draft, and it is believed elements of Goyer's script will be used in the development process.

Please no.

SHAWN MOTHAFUCKIN' LEVY!!!!!!

*curls into ball and keeps repeating "no, no, no"*

I get that they want a version of The Flash that is lighter than Batman Begins...and yeah there should be some element of humor to The Flash. But the main thing that The Flash had going for him was his personality. He was charismatic. Shawn Levy couldn't make a character charismatic to save his soul. This is bad on every conceivable level. We have Night at the Museum to thank for this. WB wants money and it looks like Mr. Levy is a cash cow.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! This is almost as good as what's-his-face doing Captain Marvel...

I've never been much of a Goyer fan. I like some of the things he did with Blade, but not enough to instill any sort of trust in his writing abilities. And while he laid out a good deal of the structure for Batman Begins, he was only able to work on the first draft due to his commitment to Blade: Trinity, so the real fine-tuning and nuance that made Begins so great, IMO, should be credited to Chris Nolan.

Buuuuuuuuuut, that said, I do like the idea that he was exploring The Flash's abilities past "he runs fast." I hope they still go in that direction, or at least give me fun moments of him running up the sides of buildings.

And I don't think I've ever said it elsewhere, but The Flash's costume is one of my absolute favorites. I hope they stay faithful to it, as it could work really well in live-action--even better than it looked in the TV series.

The only thing thats could make this good is if they get a good script since Levy wont add anything with his direction. And hopefully Levy will avoid doing way too many crane shots set to bad "popular" music. And hopefully Levy wont cast Ben Stiller, Steve Martin, or any of his other favorites.

The keyword here is hopefully

The good guys at Latino review posted this....

Moviehole talked to Ryan Reynolds about THE FLASH, a film he has been linked to for several years now, and whether that's still the case now that writer/director David Goyer has left the project.

Here's the Clip:

Now that David Goyer’s left ‘The Flash’ project does that mean you’re off the project as well?

Reynolds: Um, you know I was never officially on the project so…it’s just something that most of the fan boys have felt like there’s a strong similarity between Ryan Reynolds and Wally West. So, I certainly know of Wally and have read all the comic books and I’d love to jump in there and play him. I don’t know where the direction of the Flash is going to go from here though. Shawn Levy is taking it over and they may decide that Barry Allen is the one that they want in there, an older version of the Flash, and that is something that I wouldn’t be interested in playing. But if it was Wally I would definitely be curious.

The Flash might be put on the fast track after the strike.
"The Flash' is one project where we’ve got a really great director and a really great writer with a great take on the material." Charles Roven

source : comics 2 film

In regards to The Flash I'll sum up what he said:

The director is David Dobkin. The writer is Craig Wright. No casting information at all. He would not give an answer if it will be Barry Allen or Wally West as Flash, but he he does know about the first Flash Jay Garrick and said he finds it interesting that there was more than one Flash.

They do have a take in the direction they want to go with it, but wouldn't say what that direction is. The writer hasn't started writing because of the strike. They've done all the research on the first three Flashes and he said he knows everything about them. He laughed and said "Nice Try" when I asked what villain they were thinking of. "You wouldn't want me to tell you this far out." Uh...yes I would!

I asked him about the tone of the film. That Peter Segal is looking to make a sort of light comedy with Shazam, what would the tone be of The Flash?

"It's gonna be straight ahead and do a lot of honor to the source material. We're not going in a comedy direction. It's gonna be straight ahead action movie with a lot of character but it's not gonna necessarily be like The Dark Knight or anything, it's going to be its own thing. At least, that's what we're gonna try to do."

It is comforting to know that it's not going to try to be a wacky comedy so I can breathe a little easier now.

I'd like to think that the movie itself will be about upholding a legacy. There have been all these men who've been the Flash and it'd be interesting if it had to deal with Wally stepping into the Flash's shoes for the first time and learning to handle what comes with the name and the costume.

Any guesses for the villian? I'm almost up for anything as long as it's not the evil Flash. Too soon for that I'd think. Maybe a handful of the Rogues? (Capt. Cold, Boomerang, Mirror Master..)

Usually I totally agree with that but as far as in the comcs they were a lot more interesting when they were teaming up.

Plus I can't see them using the giant talking gorilla as a villain especially if they're trying to go for a more serious approach. I'd be afraid of too many monkey poop flinging jokes. -.-;
