The Lone Ranger... Uh... Re-Begins!

All the dirt. All the top secret stuff. Anything that has to do with the process of getting us to sit and watch something projected on the big screen.

In that pic, it looks like the Lone Ranger is way too well-dressed. You don't go ridin' around the West looking like you're attending a wedding.

The Ranger is supposed to be a tight-assed Eastern lawyer who hasn't lived in the West for a long while -- if they keep with older versions. I could see him trying to dress up, at least in the early days of his Rangering. It doesn't look as odd as Depp's ritual paint and crow headdress.

Headdress? It's going to be there for the whole time? For some reason I thought that was a random bird resting on his head.

With the makeup and the crow I thought they were trying to mix this with the remake of THE CROW and kill two franchises with one stone.

Here is something interesting. I can't find the linking page (AV Club, maybe?), but someone pointed out that Depp's look has historical precedents. However, the crow in this painting is not actually sitting on the man's head.

Works for me - from listening to his music the guy is fluent in a lot of American folk, blues, country, rock and roll... how is it not a good fit. Also, LMFAO, LOL, ROFL, or something.

Yeah, I also like it when they tap guys who aren't traditionally film composers to do scores. Usually the results are interesting, even if the movie itself is not (see: Rodrigo y Gabriela on Pirates of the Caribbean 4).

Actually White has done a fair bit of film stuff- like that James Bond theme with Alicia Keyes from a few years back. I seem to remember he was in Cold Mountain too, and contributed to T Bone Burnett's score of Appalachian folk music, which won a few awards. This would also solidify his Americana credentials for taking a stab at something like the Lone Ranger, in my opinion.

I agree with Tapehead. Maybe Jack White is best known as a garage rocker guy, but he has worked in country music a fair bit, including producing Loretta Lynn.

One of White's recent projects was called 'Rome' which stived to incorporate the Sergio Leone signature sound into regular non-movie score type songs. I thought a fair bit of that was actually pretty good and would be right at home in a cowboy movie.

Rome with Danger Mouse, Daniele Luppi and others is a brilliant album, and very cinematic - lots of homages to Ennio Morricone as well as Leone.
I was reading a while ago that they are know trying to get it made into a movie based on a Science Fiction novel - http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/oc ... album-film

first trailer.

Doesn't look terrible. Could have used the William Tell Overture though.

nah. that hard-rocking nu-metal conveys the spirit of the wild west SO MUCH better.

they should've just called this movie "Tonto". is the lone ranger even in the movie?

There's no doubt that the studio's decision to cast the second lead (tonto) with a bigger named star than the first lead (Ranger) was a risky move. But really, would this movie get BO draw with some dude named Armie Hammer and a lesser known actor as Tonto? Depp will presumably put asses in seats, and that's what's really important.

Yes the music choice was ALF. I'm not sure from this teaser if the movie will have some Pirates of the Carribean-type humor/adventure feel to it or not.

Looks a lot better than I expected. No real mugging to be seen in that trailer.

The trailer is mostly pushing the villain, which generally works better when marketing sequels because people already know the hero, so you sell them on what's new.

It would probably be a better trailer if you saw the heroes do something remotely cool. Like Tonto should pull off some stunt that shows his agility and Ranger should do some crazy trick shooting or something. But we'll probably get that stuff in later trailers.

That.... just... looked like shit to me. I think I liked the earlier trailer a lot more. Depp's Tonto appears more and more insulting every time I hear him speak - something he should do very little of.
This is essentially being marketed as Pirates of the Old West... With A Mask..... And A Purpose.

Fucking Shit.

I don't really know anything about The Lone Ranger. I knew he was a cowboy vigilante with a Native sidekick, but until that trailer, I did not know he was also a zombie.

The movie looks okay to me. Somewhere inbetween the PIRATES movies and those Guy Ritchie SHERLOCK HOLMES things. But if I were to see only one light campy fantasy adventure movie in 2013, it would be HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCHHUNTERS.
