Thundercats: The Movie

All the dirt. All the top secret stuff. Anything that has to do with the process of getting us to sit and watch something projected on the big screen.

Actually, after thinking about this for a few hours, I think a Thundercats movie would be wizard.

bah, kiddie Thundercats movie. hire Guerremo Del Toro, or even Zach Snyder, to make Thundarr. then you'd see how kickass an animated-to-live-action movie can be.

OK - despite my earlier cynicism, I'm now prepared to give this film a chance....

Maybe if this film was done like a "Conan" type of film it might work.

But the film needs to be a really really dark film because anything else is just going to turn out to be silly.

Agreed. Much like the LOTR films, they need to be REAL. The actors need to commit, the director needs to commit, the writer needs to commit, the props designers need to commit. It can't be a ridiculous kids-fest. It will only work if it's realistic. And let's fact it, Thundercats was a fairly "dark" cartoon. Look no further than Mum-Ra's temple. Or that crazy winged-leopard lookin castle. The closing credits of the show had a lot of colorful landscapes, but an equal amount of dark ones.

DO THIS SHIT RIGHT.

Then make Thundarr. You know, learn from the mistakes this one makes ;)

you know its funny, all these years i thought that was his name, and i was around to watch it during the early 80's when it was on tv. that is just what it sounded like when they said his name on the show. then i go and read the article posted on the main site, after i posted above, to see that apparently his name is Lion-O. what kind of name is Lion-O? is there a Lion-P, a Lion-M, etc?????

I can only see this film working if Monkian and Slythe are actually kick ass, as opposed to the bumbling fools that they were like rocksteady and bebop... I mean how were any of them ever any good in a fight??? a combat trouser wearing rhino and i think it's been proved elsewhere in here that a giant boar (whether mulleted or otherwise) can be taken to pieces by a child...

For the record, I still love the 'cars' Voltron. As for the Thundercats, this is great news. I feel it should be practical makeup fx no question. Just do Slythe like the mutated guy(forgot his name) in 300, give him a creepy voice, and there you go.

As for casting:

Lion-O: Brad Pitt
Cheetara: Eva Mendes
Panthro: Michael Clarke Duncan
Tigra: George Clooney
Jaga: Sir Ian McKellan
Mumm-Ra: Anthony Hopkins

Get unknowns for Wiley Kit and Kat, since I dunno any child actors. Ditto for Jackalman and Monkian.

Cast some ideas of your own. Let's just hope that they turn out better than Ice-T and the kangaroo people from Tank Girl. *shudder*

No worries, dude, I remember thinking for the longest time that Keith from Voltron was actually Keys. I couldn't fathom that the name of my best friend at the time (like 3rd grade) could actually be a name used in a cartoon as cool as Voltron. *shrug*

Sorry wonkabar. It's an American NFL team that constantly loses. I should've assumed you were british or non-American. If you have any questions, you can consult google. If not, it's a good porn reference tool. I'm sure you know what porn is tho. ;)

Oh, I'm from San Diego....My friends from the east always used to say things like, "what the hell is a 'charger'/you guys have a team?" (i.e. your team sucks so bad they may as well not exist) Of course that was before LT etc.

I should have known better than to think the joke would work in reverse

I was a big Thundercats fan. Part of me feels this needs to be left in the world of animation though. However, if this was done very dark, with little camp, it may have a chance. Either that, make it all camp with a few musical numbers. It has to go one way or the other. No middle ground for this one.

I'm guessing this is a fake piece of news - someone at work turfed it up sniffing about for news on the Thundercats movie.

The thought of David Carradine tossing Snipes' salad....I could have lived without that mental picture.

This movie, should it ever happen, is an abomination of the highest order, as the writing credits must include the line, "Based on the Thundercats action figures."

Yes, I have. I refuse to see any movie based on toys. It's not much of a principle, but it's a principle. Okay, I watched Super Mario Brothers and Masters of the Universe on cable, but not in the theater.
