Battlestar Galactica - another re-imagining (not the TV one)

All the dirt. All the top secret stuff. Anything that has to do with the process of getting us to sit and watch something projected on the big screen.

Battlestar Galactica - another re-imagining (not the TV one)

Postby Fried Gold on Fri Feb 20, 2009 11:14 pm

http://uk.movies.ign.com/articles/953/953459p1.html

Universal are moving along a movie of Battlestar Galactica, completely unrelated to Ron Moore's version - based on the old series and written by Glen Larson (who still holds movie rights on most of his old shows)

We were informed that the film will be based on the original BSG series from 1978-79 rather than the recent reboot from Sci Fi Channel. The story followed a band of humans who were the only survivors of a devastating attack on their colonial homeworld by the vicious cybernetic race known as the Cylons. The survivors, led by Commander Adama, embark on a journey through space aboard the military vessel Battlestar Galactica to find refuge on a distant planet called Earth.

I would think it'll be tough to get it going.

Why on earth would you bother after such a successful movie?

Remake the original which has just been rebooted...WTF?

I cannot for the life of me figure this move out. Oh, I get why Larson would be interested, but with the new Caprica series coming out if you were Universal would you invest in a movie that would dilute the public's perception of the reboot? This has to be the Dumbest...Idea...Ever.

Battlestar Galactica - reboot

Postby TheButcher on Wed Aug 12, 2009 10:19 pm

From /film:
Bryan Singer To Reboot Battlestar Galactica?
According to HitFix, Universal appear to be on the verge of engaging Bryan Singer to produce and also maybe direct a new Battlestar Galactica feature film. Quite a surprise, huh?

Really? I mean the series just finished, and it was pretty great, and they're already trying to remake the franchise again? This seems very strange to me.

Can't be worse than the boring, wannabe intellectual, cliche filled, bad acted*, amateurish shot, bad written, absolutely nonsensical piece of shit that the last remake was.

Yeah, but, "All of this has happened before, and it will happen again." I always took that very literally. The Moore/Eick series was always just one go 'round of the same story playing out, again and again, through Eternity. We saw it happen before back in '78, now we need to see it happen again.

Word is that instead of using "All Along The Watchtower" as a musical thread, the producers want to use Adam Lambert's version of "Ring of Fire."

I get that some people didn't dig Superman Returns, but Singer has made other films. Is SR going to be the albatross around Singer's neck forever? Before SR most of the geek community was sucking his dick (not literally, but you know).

Postby King Psyz on Sun Aug 16, 2009 12:20 pm

this will probablly alienate me from the masses here... but I hated XMEN. the whole schtick about it being more based in reality was total bullshit. Wolverine was too tall, rouge didn't work for me at all as a PLAIN LOOKING GIRL. She's supposed to be an overly sexy southern belle type, not a nerdy little girl.

Halle Berry as Storm? W T F. The only casting I liked was Iceman, Cyclops, and Jean Grey because she was at least pretty. Iceman is supposed to be a smart ass teenager pretty boy, so of course he was given minimal screen time so Bryan could focus more time on his mancrush Hugh Jackman and the ever changing facial and head hair, what kind of editor lets that by for a feature film? Did Bryan not watch the dailies? At least Cyclops had that comic book jaw thing...

Personally, I like to see a personality or a trademark look for directors, but don't force too much of your likes on the audience... find a middle ground.

Instead he went further with this and we had the underwear model Superman hoisted on us and a Lois Lane that never heard of makeup or brushing her hair.

So no, I am dreading this movie and it's frankly idiotic based on what a success the SciFi series was. Larson needs to leave his overinflated ego in the 80's where it belongs and make nice with the new BSG writers and producers and make a big budget BSG with an action/sci fi director.

Reading all these comments before the film I can imagine Star Trek reboot comments AFTER the film. Hate this idea as much as you want, one thing is for certain, you're all gonna at least WATCH the film. You may as well not have any opinions.

R-tarded, no way I'm going to watch this at any point... plus I finally lost respect for Singer. Anyone else see the glorious joke on display here?

The original Battlestar Galactica rode on Star Wars' coat-tails... now Bryan Singer is riding on the JJ Abrams Star Trek coat-tails with a reimagining of another "retro" sci fi property.

You can make educated guesses... the new TV series was mostly outstanding, it's ludicrous to make a feature film out of the same source material at this point. If they have a good story in hand, which is highly doubtful, they could just make an "original" sci fi film. The only reason they are reimagining BSG is because they think they can make money off the franchise. Singer is just a gun for hire here, which is why I lost respect for him as a filmmaker. Who knows, maybe he'll fight with the studio and they'll hire Brett Ratner to take over.

Well, I liked every Singer movie so far, even SR(his weakest, but anyway). He makes good movies, Valkyrie was a good one.
Sure it looks like a cash grab, but the movie can be good after all.
It's just becoming a new tradition around here to trash every movie before it's release or even seeing a clip.
I am sure you all will praise Singer when he brings the X Men franchise back on track. Or maybe it will suck?
Who knows..

Deadline June 9, 2016:
‘Battlestar Galactica’ Movie Sets ‘Westworld’s Lisa Joy To Write
Director Francis Lawrence Orbiting
Mike Fleming Jr wrote:EXCLUSIVE: The long-awaited big-screen transfer of the Glen Larson 1978 TV series is moving forward at Universal. Lisa Joy, who scripted and is exec producer on HBO’s series Westworld, is writing the script. Francis Lawrence is circling the movie to direct.

Bluegrass Films partners Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark are producing with Michael De Luca through his Michael De Luca Productions. Bluegrass is currently awaiting release on Free State Of Jones and Central Intelligence. De Luca is currently in production on Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. The producers came on to the project in February.

Lawrence, who last directed The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, is next directing Jennifer Lawrence in the spy thriller Red Sparrow and this would come after. The Battlestar Galactica series involves the battle between humans and the alien Cylon race, which is bent on wiping out the human race. It nearly achieves its aims with a devastating attack and the survivors flee in a caravan of spaceships. The cult favorite series led to a 2003 reimagined Battlestar Galactica miniseries aired on Syfy that Time magazine called one of the “100 best TV shows of all-time.” Numerous directors have taken cracks at the feature film version over the years. It gives Universal a strong chance to create another tentpole franchise.
