The picture of him with the long coat on was pretty good!

The cell phone killed the other pics...

My one big nitpick is the fact that he looks way too clean. His clothes are so new they look like they should have sales tags attached to them.

Stephen King spoiled the heck out of 'The Dark Tower,' so let's talk about it
Could they be trying something brand-new with this adaptation?

it's pretty much just confirmation of what a lot of people suspected about the film (and what is set up by the ending of the final book of the series). it's probably the right way to go with an adaptation, but it's a stretch to use it to explain away all the changes that have been made from the books.

Given that King has hinted at rewriting/editing the entire series multiple times, I can see him behind a lot of changes for the film adaptation. The Horn is an easy way (some will say lazy) to accommodate those changes. I'm not saying that King gave them the changes, but it's just an easy excuse.

I've been keeping away from most stories about this film, but am I right in thinking that the film is actually going to be a continuation of the story instead of a straight adaptation?

Sounds like that Dark Tower TV show is still happening. Hope you guys like Wizard and Glass! Or, you know, not. Whichever option makes this news better:

I think that TV is the best way to do Wizard and Glass. While it's a favorite among DT fans, it IS a prequel to the main story. And despite the window dressing of calling it a western, a lot of really weird shit happens in the book.
Now the next question......where will it air?

YOU COULD (piss off caps lock I wanna start a roll!) easily do Wizard and Glass as a 13 parter. It's a whole build up story, establishing bonds between characters, which while you watch/read it can make you rather impatient waiting for this fuse to blow, but when it does oh my god it will be so nerve wracking and may even make you shake as you watch it (it was like that reading it) but when the final real emotional stab comes at the end, oh to make that so crucifyingly destroying, yeah, you HAVE to spend all the time needed working up to this point to make that wallop on your heart work.

So yes, I'm wholesomely pleased with this being a series, at least they've done THIS right, and gives me a lot more faith in their telling of these novels.

Thank you for giving me something to look forward to.

So apparently a really rough trailer (incomplete fx) leaked online a couple days ago.
Descriptions are all over the place, but I couldn't find a working link.

I have zero vested interest in this movie/show/books, but I agree with this sentiment...when I saw the business about the leaked trailer yesterday I did not go down the rabbit hole.

FG makes a great point.

1. Quirky source material that maybe won't be embraced by many people and the general punters out there.
2. Unknown property that no one's heard of before.
3. Idris Elba as the main actor who still isn't a box office star and guarantee of a hit.

I would think that this would need hyping to death as much as possible and for early as possible too. Chrishte even myself who has read the novel series hasn't got much of a clue how they will interpret the literary material.

They need to get cracking, and panicly fast.

#1 is the biggest point... and number 2 fits alongside it. If they want asses in seats they should really be pushing a fantastic ad campaign to get people interested. Stephen King's name will get people's attention but they really need to force the appeal of the series to people that haven't heard of it. I resisted the books for years because at face value they didn't really interest me at all. It was the fact that the first book was a quick read that caused me to cave in and try it. That story, and the knowledge that there were multiple sequels, kept me along for the ride. But really, how can they get the masses interested?

Why are they at rock bottom? I can't say I have high enthusiasm for it either. Personally I'm not that jazzed about Idris being cast. Call me racist as you like but again it is a personal preference thing rather than a genuine criticism, but after obsessing for ages about what actor would be a perfect physical fit for the literary Roland Deschain, Idris is not bringing that particular satisfaction to the screen for me, albeit I'm sure he'll still be 'great' in the role. Still it does take away the full on appeal I was hoping the casting of this character would bring.

Re: The Dark Tower (TV Show Time!)

I'm sceptical about this as anyone, but I think Quint was a little unfair in his article's title. His main issues that appeared to influence his title are with the simple fact that the screen doesn't line up with his personal vision. That's a system shock that any fan of the series will have to deal with, regardless of who is directing or who (gag!) wrote the script. He seems to like what the actors are bringing to Roland and Jake, and is at least intrigued by McConaughey's Man in Black. I'm down for the upgrade in powers for him. It always seemed like he had the potential to be that powerful. I just hope he goes out in a blaze of glory this time.

It really appears that the only way for fans of the series to enjoy this is to treat it as a sequel to the books.

I haven't read Quint's write-up or anything else and won't until I see a trailer for this thing. But I read the movie synopsis on the Google, which starts with this:

"Jake, who is still reeling over the death of his hero dad, a first responder on 9/11 who succumbed to toxic exposure..."

Uh....fuck you?

I had the same reaction when they stashed Black 13 in the books. If this (Black 13) somehow connects to the death of Jake's dad in the movie, my "fuck you" will be lessened. If they just end up being two unrelated incidents that tie into 9/11 then I'll double down on the "fuck you."

Fiction and actual recent tragedy have no place together in my opinion.
