Sony Sets Release Dates for Third and Fourth 'Amazing Spider-Man' Films
Pamela McClintock wrote:Sony has set release dates for its third and fourth Amazing Spider-Man films, which hit theaters on June 10, 2016, and May 4, 2018, respectively.

The move sets the course for the marquee superhero franchise for the next five years. The threequel had been mentioned, but never a fourth film.

The Amazing-Spider Man 2, which will see Andrew Garfield return in the role of Peter Parker, is currently in production in New York and rolls out in theaters May 2, 2014.

“Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise," said Sony Pictures vice chairman Jeff Blake, "so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”

Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

In 2012, Amazing Spider-Man took in over $750 million at the worldwide box office.

The announcement came in the wake of the successful opening of Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' Man of Steel, which appears to have successfully resurrected the marquee Superman franchise.

Matt D. Wilson wrote:In a live chat on Marvel.com Monday, Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott and Marvel.com editor Ben Morse announced Spider-Verse, an event that will start in November and feature “every Spider-Man from every universe,” according to Morse. The event will feature art by Olivier Coipel. It will take place in Amazing Spider-Man and will spill over into other titles, Morse reported.

Slott promised that every Spider-Man and even a few new ones will either team up or fight in the event. And he really means every single one. Some preview art shown in the live chat featured the Spider-Man from the 2003 series 1602. Slott added that Miles Morales, Spider-Ham, the MC2 version of Spider-Girl, Spider-Men from What If? stories and Bullet Points Spider-Man, and even Spider-Monkey will appear. The only Spider-Man Morse wouldn’t confirm is the Superior Spider-Man. Jessica Drew Spider-Woman has also been confirmed.

‘Silver Sable and Black Cat’ Taps Director Gina Prince-Bythewood
Justin Kroll wrote:“Beyond the Lights” director Gina Prince-Bythewood will take on “Silver Sable and Black Cat,” a spinoff of the Spider-Man universe.

Prince-Bythewood will also rewrite the script penned by “Thor: Ragnarok” scribe Chris Yost. A previous draft was written by “Westworld” co-creator Lisa Joy. Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing the project.

In the comic books, Silver Sable is a mercenary who runs a company that hunts war criminals. Black Cat is burglar named Felicia Hardy, who briefly appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” played by Felicity Jones. While both characters exist in Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, Prince-Bythewood’s film will not be a crossover with the web-slinger.

“Silver Sable and Black Cat” is not the only Spider-Man movie in the works at Sony — the studio is developing a “Venom” film as well. It recently tapped Tom Hardy to star and Ruben Fleischer to direct. “Venom” will swing into theaters on Oct. 5, 2018.

Palak Patel and Eric Fineman are overseeing “Silver Sable and Black Cat” for Columbia Pictures.

Prince-Bythewood is best known as the writer and director of the beloved 2000 film “Love & Basketball,” starring Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps, and the 2008 drama “The Secret Life of Bees.” She more recently helmed the 2014 romantic drama “Beyond the Lights,” which earned an Oscar nomination for best original song. Lately, she’s been primarily focused on TV, most notably on the Fox limited series “Shots Fired” (which she created with her husband, Reggie Rock Bythewood). She also just finished directing the pilot for another Marvel property — Freeform’s upcoming “Cloak & Dagger” TV series.

THR MAY 25, 2017:
'Spider-Man' Spinoff: Silver Sable, Black Cat Movie Finds Director with 'Secret Life of Bees' Filmmaker (Exclusive)
Borys Kit wrote:'Silver and Black' is looking to start production this fall.
Gina Prince-Bythewood, who wrote and directed The Secret Life of Bees, will direct Silver & Black, Sony's Spider-Man offshoot that centers on characters Silver Sable and the Black Cat.

Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing the project, which is planning for a fall start.

Chris Yost, who worked on the upcoming Marvel movie Thor: Ragnarok, is writing the most recent draft. Lisa Joy, the co-creator of HBO's Westworld, also worked on the script.

Silver Sable, created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz in 1985, is a mercenary who runs a company that hunts war criminals. The character has been both antagonist and ally to Spider-Man.

Black Cat, an acrobatic cat burglar whose real name is Felicia Hardy, has a long and tangled romantic history with Spider-Man in the comics. The character was cut from scripts for the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, and a "Felicia Hardy" (played by Felicity Jones) briefly appeared in Amazing Spider-Man 2, though no Black Cat connection was ever made explicit.

Sony is rebooting Spider-Man this summer with Spider-Man: Homecoming and hopes to launch a slate of Spider-Man-related movies. The first project, Venom, is already off and running, having snagged Tom Hardy as star and Ruben Fleischer as director. While Spider-Man is firmly in Marvel's cinematic universe, Sony's offshoots will stand apart.

Prince-Bythewood won acclaim and awards with her feature debut, the 2000 drama Love and Basketball. The writer-director has had her feet mostly planted in the drama world and on top of helming Secret Life of Bees also directed the romantic drama Beyond the Lights, which starred Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Nate Parker.

She co-created the crime drama Shots Fired, which is currently airing on Fox, and is due to direct the pilot for Cloak & Dagger, Freeform's television series based on the Marvel Comics teen heroes.

Prince-Bythewood is repped by CAA and Del Shaw.

Updated May 25, 10:30AM: Silver & Black does not have a fall 2018 release date.

In addition, Columbia Pictures and Black Label Media's Sicario 2: Soldado, the follow-up to Denis Villeneuve's 2015 film, will open June 29, 2018. Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin return for the film, directed by Stefano Sollima.

Other changes include the move of Breaking Bad director Michelle MacLaren's feature-film debut, The Nightingale, to Jan. 25, 2019, from its previous date of Aug. 10, 2018. Columbia's Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly comedy Holmes and Watson has moved to Nov. 9, 2018, from Aug. 3, 2018. TriStar Pictures will also release director Ben Taylor's The Rosie Project on May 10, 2019.
