Land of the Dead - I'm an idiot

Postby bluebottle on Wed Oct 19, 2005 2:52 am

I bought the new Unrated "Land of the Dead" today.

The extra's kick ass.

The Simon Pegg/Edgar Wright meet George Romero video is fantastic, and if you want to know how much a dick John Leguizamo really is, watch the video where he walks you (the viewer) through the set (Who calls craft service, "crap" service on camera, then goes onto the craft service truck and talks down to the craft service guy? John Leguizamo, that's who!)

Anyway, I'm a huge idiot, because when I went to watch the film, I realized i had bought the FULL SCREEN version. I didn't look at the cover. WHO BUYS FULL SCREEN MOVIES ANYWAY?!

besides idiots like me, but it was a mistake!!!

So... Now I gotta figure out what to do with this one, while I scrounge up the 25 bucks (canadian) to buy the Widescreen version.

Hooray!

Anyway, it's worth it for the extras, and the film itself, is amazing. I'm sure the "Unrated" version is that much better.

J-L, you've seen the unrated cut, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

:)

P.S. This is the second "dumb" thing I did today. At the laundromat, I thought i was putting money into my washer, but i accidentally washed someone elses clothes. And not just someone. A dwarf. A pissed off dwarf. I shit you not.

It happens. Take it to a Blockbuster or Rogers store and they'd probably buy it off you, or give you store credit.

I've met people who prefer fullscreen.

They must be culled.

So if the zombies are capable of evolution, is not possible then, that they could evolve back into...well...normal people?... albeit flesh-eaters

The Unrated Version is certainly better than the theatrical, there is one extra scene near the beggining which show's that you don't have to be bitten to turn stencher, The Dead still rise after death, there are some nice scenes of Gore & some really nice scenes of gore but I would have like some scenes of total carnage & in that it doesn't deliver.

everytime I went to Amoeba I always looked for Tsui Hark's The Blade.

Lo' and behold, one day, miraculously, can it be oh YES! Finally!

Go home, pop it in...

1. It's dubbed. (not even an option...only English)
2. It's not letter-boxed. (4:3)
3. The quality of the tranfer sucks.

Now mind you, the description of what was on the disc was in both Mandarin and English so how the fuck was I supposed to know?

I should've known when the disc cost only $11, but still...

KCBC I don't think there is a good transfer of The Blade in existance on DVD, hopefully someone will give it the treatment it deserves one day.

Blue, why don't you just take the DVD back to the shop & change it for the Widescreen version? Every single shop in the UK would let you do that, do you Canadians have different laws or something?

oh yes, I know. That's why I was so shocked to see it. I thought (erroneously, obviously) that someone had finally put it out.

I didn't really like the theatrical version, it all felt too Hollywood. Is there any point in me getting the unrated version so?

YES there is a point. You get an extra scene and a FUCKLOAD of extra gore. Intestines and shit.

BUT!!!!!

THE FUCKING LEGS ARE STILL THERE! You know, the ones they inserted to make it more MPAA friendly over top of the gory bits! I mean, the new gore shots dont have them, but all of the points in the theatrical cut where it had legs, it still has legs.

Kind of half-assed.

Most of the movie is the same though. Asia Argento is still fucking hot. Hopper still kicks ass. Leguizamo is still annoying. The zombies are still smart.

BUT you get more of the clown zombie eating the mousey dude.
On YouTube or Vimeo.

since this thread has been revived (insert bad zombie joke here) i should say, i took the dvd back to the place i bought it and they refunded it without question. Apparently it's really common.

And the unrated widescreen version does indeed, kick ass.
