SIN CITY - UNRATED - RECUT - EXTENDED (NSFW)

Postby darthevilbob on Mon Nov 28, 2005 11:44 am

OK, just watched this new Sin City, and i have to say im a little dissapointed. They've split the film into four stories, that yellow bastard, the big studly kill, the hard goodbye and the customer is always right.

This actually ruins the film for me (not horribly) but I liked the seemless way in which they played. Also where is this extended stuff, it must be very little as i can't seem to find anything new (i've only wathched the original sin city once) unless of course they are counting the new credits on each story!?

I could be wrong about the extended bits, however i can't seem to find anything new on here but it has been a while since i saw the original.

Anyway still good, and the extra's are brilliant as are the menu's but a little dissapointed in this supposed 'extended' edition.

Miko slicing Manute in half.

Marv "politely" asking Weevil for a favor.

Bit more of Hartigan in the hospital.

I completely agree. It flows better in the theatrical version.

But the special features were cool. Rob Rod shows how to make my favorite breakfast tacos (potato and egg). Fuck migas, though.

Oh, and the scene with Marv's mom was sweet too. It gave him a little more humanity.

it does.

theatrical version is on disc 1, the individual stories with extra footage is on disc 2.

It's quite a waste. 4 minutes of new footage. 18 minutes of credits that no one is going to sit through. And cutting the scene from the end of the movie and sticking it with the Customer is Always Right was stupid. It doesn't flow at all with that. The separate ones actually take away from the whole thing since it takes out the title sequence.

Also, the commentary with Rodriguez and Tarantino is so manipulatively advertised. Its a Rodriguez commentary with Tarantino stopping by for like 10 minutes and Bruce Willis stopping by for 10 minutes.

The commentaries and other special features still had some good and interesting stuff in them, though it would have been better if this dvd came out instead of the initial barebones attempt of a ripoff.

The best Carla shot you can get is the ass shot during the green screen. Speaking of which, it doesn't actually show the entire movie.

I succumbed to the double dip, and i'm happy with the deluxe set... i'm glad that the original cut is on there along with the extended / mangled edition. and i love that it comes with a manga digest size edition of the first comic! noice!

still, i think splitting up the extended cut into separate stories was a bad idea; the new footage should have just been incorporated into a new extended cut... where the weakness of this really shows is in The Customer is Always Right. having the Alexis Bleidel murder occur without the intervening context of The Big F@t Kill makes no sense at all. the other 3 stories work just fine, but i liked how it was weaved together in the Original Theatrical cut... anyways, i love the damn movie, and the dvd is real nice, i just woulda done the extended cut differently...

See I see the seperate stories not to be considered as movies but short pieces to watch at your leisure. you dont have time for the whole movie watch the Hard Goodby or the Big studly Kill. I liked it. The featuretts are awesome by the way, and I liked the Frank Miller commentary.

"The Hard Goodbye" (with Mickey Rourke as "Marv" ) has two new sequences totaling about two minutes Marv encounters his mother and finds his gun, and talks to Weevil in the club

"The Big studly Kill" (with Clive Owen and Benicio Del Toro), some short dialogue is restored, along with another wicked slice by Miho (Devon Aoki)--about a minute total.

"That Yellow Bastard" (with Bruce Willis and Jessica Alba) has about 3.5 new minutes: there are more visitors to Hartigan's hospital bed, including his wife and a nurse; Carla Gugino's Lucille character comes to assist Hartigan when he wants to get out of jail (probably the best addition); and Mr. Shlubb and Mr. Klump have some more lines

That and there is an extended scene with Marv at his mothers house, and the bar scene is extended and I think I remember the scene where Dwight is sinking in the pits I think that is extended too.

I haven't watched the recut stuff yet, but I love the special features. The film school was awesome and showed just how much went in during post. I can't believe Elijah and Mickey never met, yet still had an awesome fight scene.

The Sin-chrnoni-city is also really cool to hear Frank talk all about Sin City.

I thought it was cool how many of the people that shared scenes together never even met, and usually filmed their scenes several weeks apart (like Marv and Kevin, Marv and Rutger Hauer, or Marv and Nancy. Cool.

And I never noticed it, but they changed the shape of Elijah Wood's face. It's so subtle, but once you know it, you realize it makes him a much more menacing character.
