so sorry wrote:I just walked thru my local Circuit City Closeout Sale, and all DVDs are currently 25% off. Unfortunately, they are priced higher to begin with than Best Buy, so the 25% deal isn't that great. But there was a pretty big selection left, so I think I'm going to give it another week or so and go back and stock up on some DVD library fillers. Yeah, I'm posting about a future DVD purchase... gotta problem with that?

Three weeks later, and the DVD prices are now 40% off. The selection was still decent, so I bought a bunch of semi-wanted DVDs at a nice cheap price: NightWatch, DayWatch, Dance of the Dead, The French Connection, No Country for Old Men.

I was hoping that they would have some seasons of The Wire left, but couldn't find any... If anybody lives near a Circuit City, you might want to head over and fill in some gaps in your DVD collection.

Speaking of Circuit City, I picked up US MARSHALS, a new copy of Venture Bros to replace my lost one, and got a bday present for my roommates girl in the form of MUPPET'S TAKE MANHATTAN:

all for the low low price of 24 bucks.

So I finally picked up The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray and honestly, it's kinda got me turning slightly against the format again. I only got a bluray because they threw it in with this new television I bought but then I bought some movies for it and liked how they looked and was kinda embracing it, but fuck, from now on I'm only going to buy movies where I value the realism and not movies that I see for a romanticized universe. I got Apocalypto and that one plays great, but with The Dark Knight I just couldn't get over what shit everybody looks like. I was watching this movie and just kept thinking about how fucking ugly Maggie Gyllenhall was.

It's kinda like shakeycam, the way these shakeycam action movies like Bourne are easier to follow on the small screen (at least for me). When I'm in the cinema I'm always kinda overwhelmed no matter how far back I sit and I always notice more on home video, but with blu-ray they keep so much of the detail in tact and I'm just there counting the wrinkles on Aaron Eckhart's face and the blackheads and pimples around Maggie Gyllenhall's nose and these glamorous actors suddenly look like I do in the morning. I never found Gyllenhall remotely attractive, but she was actually grossing me out this time.

Anyway, it was still an enjoyable movie and all, but fuck, these actor people aren't as good-looking as we all thought. It makes me affraid to watch any movie on bluray that stars a chick I thought was really hot. The idea that Kate Winslet's Titanic clevage could get ruined for me is too much to bare.

I'll also add that I got this movie at Future Shop and they sometimes develope their own steel cases for big movies and so this one came in a cool steel case. So if my place ever goes up in flames I know that my copies of The Dark Knight, Planet Terror, Collateral, and Oldboy will survive which is actually probably a good small legacy to leave behind. I mean, I've thought about my mum having to sort out my shit if I were to die and coming over and getting to that bookcase I have devoted to pornography and it's kinda embarassing. And to think, I'm going to have to pack all that shit up and move it in a few months when I relocate for professional reasons.

Oh, and I also ordered season 1 of Mad Men because I heard it's a good show and I want to check it out.

Now see if they'd cast Michelle Monaghan from the start you wouldn't be in this mess. I know she wasn't considered or anything, but I think she would've been good in the useless Rachel Dawes role, because she's actually likable and shit.

For the record, I would bang Maggie Gyllenhaal like a drum. Like a fugly drum.

Yeah, my choice would've been Kate Beckinsale since Batman is opposed to casting Americans to play Americans. But Michelle Monolith would've been good too.

To be fair, very few people still look good when their faces are blown up to three feet long. The way Chris Bale's face looks on my television isn't how I would look at any normal person because I don't stand that close to anybody unless I'm kissing them.

I would too my friend, I would too

I liked Maggie in TDK but it was kind of distracting that she was chosen to replace Katie Holmes, I kind of wish they would have killed of Rachel earlier in the movie (like the opening scene--casulty of the bank job maybe) or had a shot of her walking intoo aan airplane as bruce runs up early in the movie

and done this with someone who looks a little closer to katie

After being laid off from my job a month ago I have had a lot of time on my hands. So, naturally, I have been spending money on DVD's!

I just purchased "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" on Amazon for $10.49: http://www.amazon.com/Scare-Jessica-Death-Zohra-Lampert/dp/B000FSME2E/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1235595083&sr=8-1

Big Lots has "lots" of genre titles (and some even widescreen special editions) for $3! I bought "The Brood" for $3!!! Here is the Amazon link (where they are selling it for $10.99!): http://www.amazon.com/Brood-Oliver-Reed ... 551&sr=8-1

Also:

I bought several used DVD's from Blockbuster:

Pathology http://www.blockbuster.com/movies/pathology.html

Rest Stop: Don't Look Back http://www.blockbuster.com/movies/rest-stop-dont-look-back.html

The Lazarus Project http://www.blockbuster.com/movies/the-lazarus-project.html

This super-awesome Peter O'Toole movie called The Stunt Man*. O'Toole plays a weary director (Eli Cross) who gives refuge to a runaway fugitive that happens to stumble onto his set by employing him as a stuntman. The action scenes are pretty damn cool (especially the one which ends with the stunt man falling through a glass roof and landing in a German brothel), but what makes this baby go is the fact that the twists and turns are actually twisty and turny and not telegraphed from a mile away. That, and the continual psychological mind-fucking Eli Cross inflicts on his foundling and the REAL director, Richard Rush, inflicts on us.

last Blu-Ray bought:

- The Dark Knight
- Casino Royale

SD/DVD:

- Simon Schama's Power of Art

All good stuff. The encoding on both blu-ray discs is some of the best I've ever seen. It really propels my enjoyment of such huge scale movies.

The Power of Art DVD's are somewhat sappy, but do a good job of setting up what artists are going through at the time that they create specific works of art. Overall, really enjoyable and maybe recommended more for rental.

I bought SHAKEDOWN because it looked awesome from a YouTube trailer that my buddy showed me.

I also got THE COLOR OF MONEY because I haven't seen it in ages and can't find it anywhere to rent and it was cheap.

And THE CINCINNATI KID because I haven't seen it ever and I like McQueen and figure it would make a good gambler double bill with COLOR OF MONEY. Plus this Ann-Margaret lady has some pair o' tits on her.

So overall, a pretty cheap trip to Amazon.

Dark Shadows: The Beginning Collection 2 These are the very first episodes, way before they introduced Barnabus the vampire. Great stuff!

Pinocchio (BluRay) One of my very favorite Disney cartoons. The picture and sound are amazing!

Whatever Happened to Aunt Alice? Creepy Baby Jane-type thriller with the amazing onscreen coupling of Geraldine Page and Ruth Gordon. Haven't seen it in years, but am very excited to watch it again (this time in widescreen).

Slumdog Millionaire. The fucking Macrovision encoding on it made it just about unwatchable on my ancient DVD player, so I splurged and got a new DVD player. I think that between my roomie and I we have about nine DVD players in this house, only three or which get any regular use.

Super sale week in town this weekend, so I went a little crazy.

One store had half price on all games and movies.

La Confidential (Blu Ray)
Clockwork Orange (Blu Ray)
Hidalgo (Blu Ray)
Pixar Shorts (Blu Ray)
Saint Row 2 for the Ps3 (Very silly, but a lot of fun, and worth picking up if you see it cheap.)
Twin Peaks collected gold edition (Seasons 1 and 2) on DVD

There would have been more, but I found out about the offer kind of late, so caught the tail end of what was available. Not a bad haul for approx $100.

In another offer I got The Meaning of life and Back to the future trilogy very cheap. Meaning of Life is interesting, and well made, but just not really funny expect for random bits.

Also picked up "7 deadly sins" which is a norwegian TV show, featuring the lead singer of "The Cumshots" doing his very best to take each sin to extreme in an effort to provoke God to come have a word with him. Hes extremely mental, but a very cool and likable character, even while doing the most debased things. To pick one stunt, his attempt to masturbate every hour - on the hour for 24 hours is painful to watch, but funny as hell. Very very sore.
...and so forth.

Oh HELL yeah! JACKIE BROWN is die scheiße! I also got a wild QT hair up my ass months back, that's when I picked up TRUE ROMANCE, PULP, the aforementioned goddamn majesty that is JACKIE BROWN (Max Cherry is the fucking man), and then recently finished my Tarantino one-man jerk fest by watching FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, then again w/ commentary, then watched FULL TILT BOOGIE the documaking of the film. I'm not G@Y but if I had to fuck a man I could do a lot worse than George Clooney. Just saying. That's a good-looking motherfucker. Gotta get around to watching KILL BILL again. Those movies fucking annoy me more every time I watch them.

Jackie Brown is what got the wild hair up in me, I've been wanting to get it for awhile and just never did, finally decided I was going to do it and that started the whole spree

Today I bought:

The Thing (Special Edition), I had to go to Netherland to get that one, for 4.99€. The German DVD has no bonus material, the one I got today has everything.

In preparation for future Oleg Movie Club viewings I bought some bargain bin DVDs.

I got The Fugitive, which we'll be watching as part of OMC next week. I loved this movie when I was a kid and probably watched it like 20 times. Then DVD came along and I sold off my VHS copy and never replaced it. At the time I just felt like I had watched it enough so I never bought it on DVD. So I haven't watched this since like 1996, and I am looking forward to revisiting it.

And I got Firefox for our next round in which the OMC will be celebrating the films of Clint Eastwood. I like this movie and saw it cheap, so I picked it up.

Since we're on an Eastwood kick I also bought this movie The Gauntlet. I've never seen it and none of my Oleg brothers have selected it as their pick for the OMC yet, but I've always wanted to see it and it comes very highly recommended so I got this one on blu-ray because it was cheap.

I was out wandering around and saw the first three The Fast & The Furious movies bundled on blu-ray format at picked them up. I'm sure there will be more editions of these movies as the sequels continue to roll out but I've heard the quality on this box set is amazing. I know I've given this blu-ray format a bit of a hard time because its clarity draws attention to a lot of actors' blemishes and the result of seeing somebody's head blown up to fill a 52" television in that clarity is kinda gross from a dermatalogical point of view. But I think Jordana Brewster's winning skin tone just might be the one to break that.

Much to the surprise of most people who know me, I didn't previously own any of these movies.

Now I just have to assemble my new television stand and unpack my television (now that I've moved) so that I actually watch them (or any other movie).
