Picked up THE WRESTLER after work. Pretty conservative with the special features, not even a fucking commentary, so I assume Fox is gonna put out a 2-disc set in the near future and make me look like a fucking asshole.

I'm actually surprised they didn't do that back in late Jan/early Feb to cash in on Oscar buzz and then do the big 2-disc around this time

not even a commentary huh, that sucks, I was really wanting to pick that up soon myself

I also picked up THE WRESTLER. I really wanted to catch it in theatres, but the limited release didn't make it easy. But I can't wait to check it out.

Yeah, I wasn't able to see it until it came to our theater last month. And it was only here for a week.

I to was fairly pissed about this.

I walked around Best Buy for about 15 minutes before I realized that the standard disc that I held in my hand was it. I guess that we'll see a DIRECTORS CUT too in the future, with 2 minutes of additional footage that really dosnt make a fucking difference to the film.

By that note, I also picked up FREAKAZOID season 2..ACES!

Picked up TAKEN after work. I'm fucking sick of having to buy these 2-disc DVD sets where all the special features are on the first disc and the second disc is just the fucking bullshit digital goddamn copy that I'm never going to watch. I mean I understand I'd be paying $24 for the fuckin' 2-disc set anyway, whether the goddamn features are on the second disc or not, but Christ at least I'd actually use the second fucking disc. You fucking Struggling Background Artists.

As part of this anime kick I've been on lately I bought a used copy of PERFECT BLUE online since I couldn't find it anywhere to rent. I saw this movie in the cinemas when it was first released here in Canada, like more than ten years ago because I'm pretty sure I was in secondary school at the time. I remember it being kind of a Brian DePalma type sexed-up violent thriller but I forget most of what happens and look forward to revisiting it.

Taken. Frost/Nixon. How The West Was Won (big 3-disc special edition). And a concert DVD: Return To Forever Returns - Live at Montreux, just 'cause I feel a need to recapture what was cool when I was in high school. Guess what? Al Di Meola actually uses a whammy bar! I always thought he eschewed that kind of cheating.

Bought the original Apocalypto, The Naked Prey (the sooner filmmakers learn to ditch the dialogue and keep it primal the better), that Star Trek movies box-set, Chris Morris of Brass Eye/Day Today fame's seriously strange "sketch show" Jam, and a pretty neat looking noir box-set in the shape of a Smokey Thingie case (the films are awesome, too).

I got Burn After Reading (which I saw last night and liked), and Cool Hand Luke (which I've seen several times and is a classic but for some reason had never before been part of my collection). Also some concert DVDs of Eric Clapton/Steve Winwood, Van Morrison (performing Astral Weeks in its entirety at the Hollywood Bowl, no less!), and Jeff Beck.

Hellz yeah! I'm watching it right now... I'd definitely be up for a sitcom starring the dodgy doctor.

By the way, youtube's got a bunch of Chris Morris monologues from the original radio show, Blue Jam, which inspired the series. Definitely worth a listen if you've seen all the episodes and want more. I love the mix of sleep-inducing ambient music with Morris' thoroughly fuckered and vaguely offensive narratives.

Kingdom of Heaven and Goodfellas on Blu-ray
Quick Change and Paul Bartel's Private Parts on DVD

So happy to have Quick Change. It's definitely one of Bill Murray's best performances and unfortunately not very well known. It's a toss-up which is the better clown robs a bank opening scene, this or The Dark Knight.

My roomie and I saw that Treasure Island was on TV the other day, and we watched part of it. I was really impressed, but didn't have time to finish watching it, so we just got it from Amazon. Bobby Driscoll, Robert Newton, adventure on the high seas! When I get around to it, I'll love it!

I finally caved in and bought Die Hard 4.0. Yes, I know, it's the weakest of the series, but it isn't a complete trainwreck and the 4 DVD box with the theatrical cut and the unrated version cost less than 10€! And if I, as the McClane fan that I am, would refuse to put part 4 in my shelf although I even own the Special Edition of part 2, it would make me look like a hypocrite.

4 is better then 3.

I'd say WITH A VENGEANCE has LIVE FREE beat overall, despite the very weak ending. LIVE FREE for me is merely okay. There is some good action, but it doesn't feel like DIE HARD to me.

Die Hard 4 is actually the only of the sequels I've enjoyed, but it was one of those movies I made no effort to see, watched once, had a good time, and might watch it again on tv (if I had cable) but wouldn't go out of my way to see it again. Some good action, some good laughs, McClane is McClane.

4 is much more even movie than 3, it doesn't reach 3's highs, but it also doesn't have all those shitty lows. I'm normally not a guy to give a movie shit over special effects etc, but that part where McClane is surfing a bus on a wave in an underground tunnel makes my cheesy photoshopping ventures look ready for the big leagues. I'd actually say the momentum in part 3 completely dies right when it should be ratchetting up: the part after the bomb in the school.
