My mother gave me Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut for Christmas. Good thing, because I wasn't buying it myself.

I've never been attracted to Scar Jo or really understood what all the fuss was about, but man her tits looked fuckin' great in HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU. She got the only chub she ever got out of me in that movie and I think she got the role she was born to play as a dipshit yoga instructor. I'd cheat on Jennifer Connolly with her too.

But the movie is shit. Pure shit.

I was browsing at Wal*Mart and found a single-disc version of There Will Be Blood. It appeared to have been re-wrapped after a multi-disc set was broken up. Five bucks.

Future Shop was having a sale on these bluray box sets, so I got one that contained:

CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER
HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS
CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON

I mostly bought it for CURSE because I fucking love that movie. But this box set was cheaper than buying that movie on its own, so I figured why the fuck not? I like FLYING DAGGERS, I don't remember it as well though. I don't remember it being as blatant an endorsement of fascism as all Zhang Yimou's other movies (unfortunately). I was surprised they didn't just make it an all Zhang Yimou box set and round out the set with HERO since there is a bluray of that, but whatevs.

I remember not really liking CROUCHING TIGER at the time of its release, maybe it will have grown on me. I'll give it another shot and if I still don't like it, I'll sell it.

Yesterday I bought The Ultimate DVD Edition of T2: Judgment day.

Along with that I bought Solaris on VHS. Not a DVD but I still bought it because I have yet to see it. And for only 50 cents I really won't care if I don't end up liking it.

Recently got District 9, Moon, and The Hurt Locker from Amazon. Haven't seen them all yet. My roomie watched Hurt Locker and I saw some of it, and it was pretty cool. He also watched District 9, and I saw about the first third, and wanted to see the rest, but I had to do some other stuff at the time. I'm DEFINITELY coming back to that one!

Widescreen or full? Because at our store most of those $4 DVDs are the goddamn fullscreen.

I considered picking up MASTER AND COMMANDER on Blu-Ray. I had to keep reminding myself that I don't really like that movie. The ending was pretty awesome, though.

What really pisses my shit off about Blu-Ray though is like when they've got the director's cut for KINGDOM OF HEAVEN and I say to myself, "Man, I really fucking want that" and then I look at the back of the case and there are absolutely no special features to be found. I know the thing is like ten bucks, but this is the goddamn Blu-Ray. Am I wrong? I thought we were supposed to be moving forward, not back. What seduced me to the DVD was the special features and the widescreen presentation and shit like that. Shit that the goddamn VHS didn't offer. And now we get to the Blu-Ray and suddenly they think that since the picture quality is a little clearer and shit they can ass-fuck us out of the goodies like this? Fuck you very much.

This reminds me, I have to return my STARSHIP TROOPERS Blu-Ray disc because the goddamn thing won't play. It shows the loading bar for the menu, but when it's finished loading it just shows a black screen and nothing happens. Shit on toast.

I'm the same way Caurso, no matter how cheap something is, I still want some special features

I'm still not sure why some directors won't do a fucking commentary (I'm looking at YOU El Senor Spielberg-o...If Marty will and FFC (hell FFC did a commentary for the fucking Rainmaker), why can't you give me a commentary for Jaws or Munich or 1941 or something)

I may be the only fanboy in the world who likes the theatrical cut of Blade Runner. Yes, the narration is dreadful and the ending is syrupy, but I like the film as a whole. Archie Goodwin of Marvel comics, writing the adaptation, made one small change that turns the film's tone sufficiently to make it worthwhile. Deckard and Rachel still flee the city. In the closing narration, though, Deckard admits that they have no idea how long Rachel will live. It closes with something like, "blade runner ... you never know how you'll fall - one side or the other."

The change in tone seemed out of place to me, but I favor darkness over light and can see how some one else might feel differently about it.

I'd be interested to know what you thought of the ending of 3:10 To Yuma. I haven't seen the original, but I found the ending of the remake a bit ... problematic.

I saw it in theaters but haven't seen it since

I liked the ending at the time, but I'm curious to revisit it, see if it still holds up

my real problem with it at the time was the inclusion of Luke Wilson for all of 5 minutes

I got Rocky at Wal-Mart for four bucks. No extras, but it is widescreen and remastered. I held Constantine in my hands for a few seconds, but I think that's a $1 garage sale buy, if at all.

Just received from Amazon the classic double-feature of "The Abominable Dr. Phibes" and "Dr. Phibes Rises Again". The first one is on right now and it's as utterly bizarre as I remember. I can hear my roomie watching it and sometimes laughing and sometimes muttering "What the ..." and so on. Strange movies, these are!
