Picked up the Scott Pilgrim Blu-ray today, hopefully all the extras that I figured they cut out of the theatrical release will make it most epic-er...

Toy Story 3 bluray.

Maybe I need to watch it again. It just seemed like the first act dragged. It was a VERY slow-starting movie. It picked up eventually.

I was a bit surprised that this was the first Toy Story movie that actually has a true evil villain. Even Sid in the first Toy Story, and Stinky Pete in the second, had motivations that weren't pure evil. Lotso not pushing the emergency stop button and leaving our heroes to die was pure evil.

I agree. Felt like the first 5 minutes and the last 20 were about the best parts of the whole flick. Almost everything else felt like filler to me.

I'd like to think that the artists were considerate enough to think ahead...As the series matured, I think the villan got more mature as well. As did the message the story was meant to convey. IMHO, of course.

In the last week:

True Legend
Jabberwocky
Devil May Cry vol 3
Darjeeling Limited (criterion)
Flash Point

and I bought my first ever Blu Rays this week:

Kick Ass

and
SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD!!!!!!

Off all of these, I've devoured the Scott Pilgrim DVD the most.. I picked it up at 1 am last night. I've watched about 80 percent of the extras and I'm balls deep in the commentary..

I went on a bit of a bender and I guess I ordered DRAG ME TO HELL because it showed up in my mailbox yesterday. I checked the day I ordered it was last week when I was hitting the sauce.

I remember really liking this one. I'll watch it again but then probably sell it.

I've been biding my time on Speed Racer.. I absolutely unabashedly love that film as much as I love Scott Pilgrim. Soon, I'll have a triple threat movie night with those two and Kung Fu Hustle.... I will not be heard from for days following this event..

On a side note.. I did some shopping at my local comic show, and Picked up the entire run of ULTRA SEVEN on dvd (boot of course) and one of the few official copies of 3 Dev Adam.. have no idea what that movie is.. Google it.. then laugh..

The Darjeeling Limited is a great disc.. it just saddens me that after listening to the man on the Scott Pilgrim dvd, that Jason Schwartzman is so dull on the commentary.. I think it has to do with the low energy of Wes Anderson.. I love both mens work, especially together, but when they're in the same room, its like some one pumped qualuids in to the air..

Iron Giant and Under the Red Hood here as well

I liked Crisis on Two Earth and Public Enemies but not enough to buy. My big gripe with Public Enemies was, if you're going to cast Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy as Supes and Bats, then set it in the proper DCAU

Not sure why I didn't get First Flight

Despicable Me - big huge 4 disc thing that includes the 3D version. This was for my roomie.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps - a poor sequel in which Gordon Gekko is kind of grafted onto an unrelated love/financial-mayhem story. The script could have been a lot better. I should have known it wouldn't work when I noticed that Stone just worked as director-for-hire, rather than writing his own stuff.

The 2001: A SPACE ODESSEY bluray looks and sounds great. It's one of the best blurays of an older movie I've seen. The EYES WIDE SHUT bluray is nice too. I was planning on getting CLOCKWORK ORANGE, but then it slipped my mind.

I have been seriously toying with the notion of getting 2001 on Blu-Ray. Only ten bucks at work. I get a fucking discount. Why not? I haven't seen it since I was a kid. I remember monkeys punching each other and it was full of stars and at the end he was old.

Animal Kingdom. This is the best Crime Drama I have seen in a while. A female character in power (Jacki Weaver's character) definitely offers a different dynamic from the more typical crime family. Such great character development too. Very impressed with David Michôd in his feature film debut. It would be tough for Jacki Weaver to win an Oscar for this role given her opposition, but I hope she at least gets the nomination, as she did at the Golden Globes.

Justified, the first season. Sort of a contemporary cowboy action series. Originally aired on FX. As far as I know, they're signed on for second season. It's Adapted from Elmore Leonard's stories Pronto, Riding the Rap, & Fire in the Hole. Timothy Olyphant is great as Raylan Givens. Gotta love the no bullshit approach to justice.

Image

Virginity Hit. I originally found out about this movie from some posters on the subway advertising a "hotline for virgins." That makes me sound really cool. Anyways, long story short, I think this movie is hilarious. Reviews were not great, but you have to keep in mind what you're dealing with: a teenage sex comedy. It's not supposed to win Oscars, it's supposed to be stupid and hilarious - which it is. Produced by Will Ferrell and Adam Mckay. Also has an AMAZING cameo by Rock N Roll GREAT and former Creed frontman Scott Stapp. I shit you not.

Nowhere Boy. The John Lennon biopic by Sam Taylor-Wood starring Aaron Johnson (Kick Ass) and Kristin Scott Thomas. Very cool look at the early life of John Lennon and his struggles with teenage angst. A great idea for a film - very well acted and directed. Looking forward to seeing more from both Taylor-Wood and Aaron Johnson after watching this film.

Image

Red Hill. I really enjoy Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse on True Blood and I have been very interested to see him in another role outside of that character. Here was my opportunity. He did not disappoint with his performance. In fact I'd say he steals the show. As Capone from AICN said "Kwanten is utterly badass." Don't let the fact that this is not a well know film fool you, it's an excellent suspense/thriller.

I thought Alexandre Aja did an amazing job with Piranha 3D. I had high expectations for him after The Hills Have Eyes. He did not disappoint. Totally worth the purchase in my opinion, esp for Aja fans, as myself. Pick it up in Blu-ray 3D if you can - totally enhances the experience. Awesome, awesome film.

Red Band Trailer attached.
