Loved the Castle and love the look of the Pool Room Edition packaging its just a shame that the features dont live up to the rest of the package.

Probably the funniest Aussie comedy of all time (forget Croc Dundee) and a really good flick all round. Is it too much to hope the poolroom edition has a director+cast commentary?

Is the wire really 'the best show ever' as it's thread says??? I've not seen it, or heard anything about it.

Yes - it is!

I used to put Twin Peaks on that pedestal, but The Wire beats it, for a couple of reasons:

There are almost twice as many episodes of The Wire as there are of TP, and each one is a full hour, unlike the usual 40 minutes we get with US tv shows.

There are a few dodgy episodes of TP past the midpoint in season 2, when Lynch was making Wild at Heart and the plot started to go haywire - I've seen every episode of The Wire, and there is not one single bad one.

It's the closest thing I've seen (in TV or film) that can recreate the depth you get in a really good novel. You'll see random characters or seemingly insignificant events in, say, the second episode of a season, but you won't realise the importance of them until the tenth episode.

It has some of the best dialogue I've ever heard - its dedication to realism is admirable.

It shows moral ambiguity in the actions of both the cops and the criminals, but it never feels forced, or like it's trying to make a political stance.

I just ordered Fearless: Director's Cut and Running Man Special Edition. I thought the theatrical cut of Fearless was great and even though I've heard different opinions on the DC I thought it would be worth a purchase.

And I'll have to check out The Wire as well.

Just off the top of my head 'Death in Brunswick' is far funnier, and more indicative of a really black, laconic Australian humour. Yes I know the two leads are Kiwis, but they are both great actors, the cast of the Castle? not so much.

It really is a compelling story – and the acting is top-drawer, total suspension of disbelief. That being said, you can’t jump in the deep end on this show, your ass will be lost. Pick up the first season, it will not disappoint.

Last DVD I bought was Bandits w/Bruce Willis and Billy Bob(French Fried Pertaters) Thornton. I like this movie. It's fun, quaint in a way, and for $4, you can't go wrong.

Nothing else out there at the moment, tho I'm putting off buying til I see something I want. Hmm..... Ilsa trilogy on ebay....wonder if that's gotten any cheaper there.....

I actually just bought both the ROBOCOP and THIS IS SPINAL TAP Criterion DVDs via eBay auctions (both are OOP I believe). I've wanted these for a while and I just decided to win the damn auctions even if it meant selling my sister into the black market slave trade to make the PayPal payment. It also meant sitting and watching the eBay clock tick down on both auctions until the 15 second mark and then placing the winning bid by a long shot.

Both set me back quite a bit, but it was worth it. I paid about $50 for Spinal Tap and $35 for RoboCop. Did I overpay? Was that a ridiculous waste of money in your opinion?

If you haven't seen RoboCop since you were a kid (as was the case with me), watch it again. Most hilarious statement re: corporate greed ever woven into an action movie. Quite astute really, which prompted the Criterion treatment.

The Deluxe '65 Tour Edition of "Don't Look Back". Completely remastered, with a new documentary of outtakes from the film that actually hangs pretty well on its own! It also contains a 168-page transcription of the film, a "Subterrainian Homesick Blues" video flipbook and three postcards from the film (Dylan holding the card with "Look Out!" printed on it from the "SHB" video is on my board in my office as we speak). Bliss for any Zoner Dylan fans out there.

Am I the only one who's DVD purchasing has slowed way down? I'm waiting until I have enough money for an HDTV and a Blu-Ray/HDDVD player. I only buy the movies that I cannot wait to watch again and again. That being said, I bought Borat because it was almost as cheap as renting and I hadn't seen it yet.
Also, that Pan's Labyrinth set, above me, is effing beautiful!

Yesterday I bought a "The Making of Star Wars" video at a car boot sale for 20p.

It's a 1977 documentary narrated by William Conrad and features loads of footage I'd not seen before, even a few clips from the film which changed slightly after the first release. At the end, Lucas, Kurtz & co talk about how there might even be the chance of a sequel....
