You have to give Aronofsky credit where credit is due. The man makes a movie with some Jennifer Connelly double-dildo action and yet when someone mentions the film you STILL think "the arm... THE ARM!"

The Professionals - probably the funnest Western ever made.

Down by Law - one of those films that I've been meaning to watch for so long, that I started pimping it without even having watched it. Well now I have, so I can go back to pimping it again.

Election by Johnny To - I loved the Mission, and was a little blasè about the follow-up PTO or whatever it was called, so I'm looking forward to giving this DVD that I found lying about at work a watch. EDIT: I've just looked on To's IMDB page and it looks like he's made about 90 films in four years, so I've got a shitload of homework to do after watching this (there's Election 2 for a start).

Monty Python's Flying Circus Season 1 - Fuuuck me were 60's chicks gorgeous. They'd have to be to distract me from Cleese, Idle a al; but in every episode, I just found myself daydreaming over that girl who kept on licking Idle's face while he was playing the guitar, or Chapman's uber-hot/uber-Alf assistant in that Sci-Fi episode. *le sigh*

This weekend I purchased:

Smokin' Aces: Not bad, not great either... and I somehow guessed the 1940's agent/mafiaso connection immeadietly.

Bound: Classic, definetly love how it's filmed and the intensity is awesome.

The Blues Brothers: Awesome movie, period.

I finally got "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" Season 1. I have yet to watch it, but I'm definitely going to play the character commentary on "Store Wars" ("RIPOFF ARTIST!" -kicks in shins-)

I think I might go and preorder "Flash Gordon-Saviour of the Universe" SE.

Hey, anyone notice that you hardly see Best Buy and Circuit City offering deals like "2 for $15" anymore?

I went to pick up some hamburger buns at my local grocery store and what do I find? A 2-for-$10 sale on DVDs.

I picked up
"The Jerk - 26th Anniversary Edition"
"Anchorman - Uncut"
"Das Boot - Director's Cut"
and "The Princess Bride"

for $20 total! I'm pleased.

I like to dig thru the Walmart $4.88 DVD bin. My last great find at Walmart was "The Ultimate Cartoon Collection" which featured classics like:

Woody Woodpecker
Mutt and Jeff
Mighty Mouse
Raggedy Ann
Little Lulu
3 Stooges
and of course, Betty Boop

and, I also picked up Pan's Labrynth. IMO a cinematic masterpiece.

Arthur and the Invisibles, flick by Luc Besson.

Lots of great talents lend their voices to this animated story. Good fun, good lessons and a few chuckles as well.

I got "Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Superheros" Vol. 1 yesterday. Sadly, no news of when the next two volumes are out. But why are they releasing the episodes out of order? This one has 2, 4, 6 and 8 on it. Not that the one where Johnny is made to appear on a reality show to improve the team's image but turns it into his own episode of "Cribs" is bad...

I was reading the Chris Morris thread, i had already seen all of the day today and also Brasseye (which i would consider to be one of the funniest programmes i have seen). So i went across to Amazon and bought myself a copy of Jam...

I'll be fair, i did give it ample time to get going, for after twenty minutes i turned it off and know in my brains that i will never watch it again... random oddness, but a bit too random and a little too odd for my tastes..

So if anyone would like it let me know and it's yours... I need to get it out of my house...

HB, what's the deal with the language track on that disk?

I seem to remember, when adding it to my rental cue, that there was some digruntled words about the lack of a good subtitled version.

(at least for the region 2 release)

I'm still eager to see it, but was just curious as to what your appraisal was...

Last DVD I bought was Fellini's Satyricon, but my mum saw the DVD in my pocket and immediately "borrowed" it from me, seeing as how it was one of her favourites back in the '60s. Makes me feel a bit creepy about watching it now, considering it's billed as, "the bawdy, erotic and tittilating world of Rome during the days of Emperor Nero".

Yeah, I might just let her keep it on second thoughts.

And I might take a break from Fellini from now on.

And Italian films in general.
