Over The Edge (1979)

Postby WinslowLeach on Fri Aug 19, 2005 4:05 pm

The cult classic teen film Over The Edge (Dir. Jonathan Kaplan, 1979) is going to be released on Sept 20th. If you are a fan of this film like I am you wont want to miss this long awaited DVD release.

Over The Edge is a story about a community of wild youths who are growing more and more desperate for thrills. The town of New Granada is a suburban wasteland, the parents work all day and the kids are neglected. The kids take their agressions out by using Guns, drugs, booze and soon things get really out of control. The film stars Matt Dillon (in his feature film debut).

The soundtrack features classic tracks by: Cheap Trick, The Ramones, The Cars and Van Halen.

...that was the funniest post I've ever read at AICN. Comedy gold. I'm stealing it and shooting it in nothing other than a static two-shot. - Kevin Smith

You don't know about "Over the Edge"? Matt fucking Dillon, man! Kids in a fucking hellhole of a planned community! Nothing to do! Rage! Based on a true story.

Saw it on HBO in 1980.

I loved Slys monologue about how when he turns his hat backwards he turns into a machine. Such depth!

I've never seen this film, or heard of it for that matter but it sounds pretty good. For some reason it's reminded me of "The Boys Next Door" with Charlie Sheen. Is that a fair comparison Winslow?

Well its not about kids that go around killing people. Its more about kids that get restless with their lives because their parents neglect them and dont pay attention to them. All the kids just go wild and start havoc (shooting guns, doing drugs, drinking etc). Its very much a late 70s punk rock mindset, anti-authority- teen anarchy type film. You should try to get it on DVD, I think youd dig it.

Come on man, it's not that obscure. Amazon has it listed here.

This would make a great double-biller with If... Matt Dillon gave a career-best performance before he even had a career...or pubic hair for that matter.

This movie is more apt today than when it came out. I recall seeing this on TV several times over the years. I rented it from NETFLIX not too long ago and it's more potent than I remember.
