The Digital Bits reports that Sony has just announced the DVD release of a new The Princess Bride: Collector's Edition on 6/13 (SRP $24.96). The 2-disc set will include anamorphic widescreen video and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Extras will start with those that were on MGM's previous special edition release (including audio commentary with director Rob Reiner, audio commentary with writer/screenwriter William Goldman, the "As You Wish: The Story of The Princess Bride" documentary, Cary Elwes’ home movies, the original 1987 "The Making of the Princess Bride" featurette, another vintage making-of documentary and the original theatrical trailer). You'll also get all-new content, including the "Dread Pirate Roberts: Greatest Legend of the Seven Seas" featurette, the "Love is like a Storybook Story" documentary, the "Miraculous Make-up" featurette, "The Quotable Battle of Wits" trivia game and the 8-page "Fezzik's Guide to Florin" booklet.

I hate double dips, but I may have to get this one. But only if the new content is worth it.

Well, there was a bare bones release way back when, but I held out hope for a special edition. Then we got it, but now there's another version! There's almost as many versions of The Princess Bride as there are Star Wars DVDs. ;)

I honestly think the sword fight between Inigo and Wesley is one of the top 5 sword duels ever filmed. It's really great stuff that hearkens back to the adventurous films of Errol Flynn. In fact, the whole film does.

Me too. Getting the girly version of a film about a princess (with princess in the title) is more than my testosterone will allow.

I think this will be like the Reservoir Dog set. Where you got to choose between Mr. Pink, Blonde, White etc.

Then you got home and removed the slipcase and they're all the same underneath. Then 2 months later they just sell it without the slipcase for 5 bucks.

It would be neat if the Dread Pirate had MANLY content, like a documentary on SwordPlay
and the Buttercup version had like chick content, where they talked about the costumes and stuff.

Any of you guys in here Read the Book?
And actually sent away for the missing pages?
The responses youi get are neat.
Im not sure if they still do it. But as of 1996/7 they were still sending it out. And the books a lot OLDER than that.

I own (and obviously have read) the book. My memory is hazy regarding sending away for pages, but I'm guessing the book listed an offer somewhere for all the "missing" content?

Do they just have different artwork? Or are do they have different content as far as special features? My DVD got stolen a long time ago, so it's def time to re buy now.

The artwork is different and when you put the disk in you can choose to be a dread pirate or a pricess. Both have different intros.

I just reread the book again recently too...
