Indian Jones and the Double Dip

Special Edition Indiana Jones DVDs on May 13
Source: Lucasfilm March 3, 2008

According to the American Film Institute, he's the greatest action-adventure hero of all time – and his unforgettable exploits can be relished by fans old and new as never before when all three "Indiana Jones" movies debut as individual Special Edition DVDs and in an all-new box set on May 13.

Released by Lucasfilm Ltd. and Paramount Home Entertainment, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Special Edition DVDs boast all-new, exclusive bonus features that dig deeper into the making of these cinematic milestones than ever before. All three were originally restored and remastered in 2003. Created with fans of all ages in mind, the bonus features provide never-before-seen explorations of the making of these classic movies and showcase the characters, action and extraordinary visual effects that have made the movies indelible cinematic treasures.

Each film makes its DVD debut just days before the highly anticipated return of the "Man in the Hat" in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

"An entire generation of movie lovers will get to see these classic films in a digital format that makes them even more amazing than when they were first in theaters," said Howard Roffman, Vice President of Lucasfilm Ltd. "These new, individual DVDs are a fantastic way to introduce young audiences to the unforgettable, action-packed adventures of the most daring archaeologist in the world."

Directed by Steven Spielberg from stories by executive producer George Lucas, the three "Indiana Jones" movies earned six Academy Awards® and nearly $1.2 billion worldwide. From the groundbreaking excitement of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) to the sinister mysteries of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and the father-son adventure of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), the heroic Dr. Jones continues to delight audiences with his thrilling on-screen exploits.

Previously available only in a trilogy box set, the three films of "The Adventures of Indiana Jones," were restored and remastered to deliver an exceptional viewing experience to existing enthusiasts and a whole new generation of fans. All-new bonus content delves into the making of the legendary series as the filmmakers and cast look back and a new world of adventure opens up with Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and others offering hints about what to expect in the newest installment.

The Shuffle-
"Atonement" has been moved to March 18th.
"The Seeker" has been moved to March 25th.

Actually, I'm kinda glad because I think finding all the Disney references in "Enchanted" is gonna take a few hours...

Don't worry, Dino! Standards are dropping, the bottom of barrels are being scraped and I'm sure, eventually, the studios will be so desperate that your extended Kong will see disc.

Which will be great, because I need more coasters.

Fox and MGM are releasing 2-movie discs called "Double Takes" on June 10th. Simply put, it's the original and the remake packaged together.

So I'm guessing we can see how crap some of the remakes turned out....like how the ending of the "Bedazzled" remake sucked and the original was more believable.

But the '50s "Moulin Rouge!" with the one from our generation? That's apples and oranges, man.

David Lynch's "Lost Highway" was released this past Tues. I've been digging around reading up on Canadian version, UK versions (2 disc) blah blah blah. It seems this release is ok (only contains a David Lynch interview) but the UK 2 disc version is the better one. Lots of interviews, features, etc. Oh well.

I'm more of a Blue Velvet gal, but this was a great thriller.

I guess I've had the Canadian one all these years... comes bare-bones and on top of that it's full-screen. *vomits*

It's really surprising that the film has yet to receive a proper release... Criterion needs to hit up some Lynch films asap.

GIJoe dvds are coming. Apparently they're releasing them with action figures. I don't know if this has been linked before or not(I checked, so...)

The figures look decent and they come with accessories including a replica MASS Device and Weather Dominator respectively.

Enjoy.

I'm very curious about "Supertrain" as it was supposed to be competition for "The Love Boat"...only with craptacular production values. (A model train opposed to an actual boat...we know how that worked out.)

Speaking of that, "Love Boat Season 1 Vol. 2" is due August 19th as well as the first seasons of "Caroline in the City", "Tru Calling" and "Dave's World". (Well, some of you might be clamoring for those, especially "Tru Calling", but the latter is loosely based on Dave Barry.)

June 17th has "Galaxy High: The Complete Series". Anyone remember watching this show as a kid? I was surprised to see that director Chris Columbus was involved. Story is about two teenagers who are exchange students at an intergalactic high school. But the tables are turned when the bookish girl becomes more popular than the carefree jock.

Surreal horror film "Simon, King of the Witches" is released on R1 June 24th. The only thing that piques my curiosity is Warhol regular Ultra Violet showing up.

For the few of us that are Sommersverse fans, "The Mummy", "The Mummy Returns" and "Van Helsing" are being reissued on July 8th. Only way I'll trade up is if I see some of those deleted scenes that were mysteriously left off the previous releases...

"Tiny Toon Adventures" Season 1 Vol. 1 arrives on July 29th.

EDIT-Disney is reissuing "Nightmare Before Christmas" on a 2 Disc set and releasing it on Blu Ray this fall.

Holy cats I LOVED Tiny Toons!

I'd buy it just so when I have children they can watch it... even though they probably won't get the pop culture references as much as I did at the time.

Wow, if you want to see Peter Cullen before he was Optimus Prime...

Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show hits DVD June 17th.

Dammit, it's not on Netflix in my area...could be a good excuse to blind buy...

ETA-This is interesting as I was flipping through this year's Hallmark ornament book and found one based on "Barbie in 'A Christmas Carol'". So I did some digging and found this-

BARBIE® STARS AS THE SCROOGE-LIKE DIVA, Eden Starling, in Barbie™ in A Christmas Carol. When Eden’s selfishness threatens to ruin everyone’s holidays, three magical spirits appear to help her discover the true meaning of Christmas.

Hmm...Barbie acting like a complete bitch...sounds interesting. Although it sounds a bit like the one with Vanessa Williams...
