Tsui Hark's The Blade.
You know the protective plastic that covers the tape...it's gone, due to a friend of mine who I loaned it out to dropping my holy grail of HK action flicks. I've 'prolly watched this film over 20 times, and I'll put it's jaw dropping last 20minutes up against any other "set-pieces", ever.
Purchased at what remains (I think, haven't been there for years) my favorite video shop of all time, the 43rd Chamber in NYC. Wanna know how badass this place is / was? QT would shop there...mofucker posed for a couple of pics with the shops owner. When I asked, dude said he would come in once a week (this is, say, '97 or so, when he was dating Mira Sorvino) and spend hundreds. All bootlegs, illegal bootlegs at the time.
Other notable buys from this Asian Action films dreamshop included Ashes of Time, Bullet in the Head, Fist of Legend, The Prodigal Son, Eastern Condors, and Drunken Master II.
I never got into "crate digging" for music, but the experiences and finds I had at this shop is roughly akin to some breakbeat archeologists finding a "holy grail" record at some dusty, two-bit record shop or garage sale...
Personally, I'm an atheist in the voting booth and a theist in the movie theatre. I separate the morality of religion with the spirituality and solace of it. There is something boring about atheism.
