=====================

Okay, I can say this now... I never liked the original Apocolypse Now. It always felt bumpy & incomplete to me. It was genius & I respected it, but it never sang. When I saw a 35mm print of the REDUX, I felt like I saw the whole puzzle pieced together. It's still flawed, like how the French Plantation scene seems to go on forever and not fit at all, but in a wierd way, it connected the pieces of the puzzle for me.

Now, a version on DVD with EXTRAS! at long last, EXTRAS!

Anyone else jazzed?

Francis needs to do more extras. I dug the GODFATHER stuff and hope more of his movies come out like this.

Normally, I won't shill, but freakin $14.99 is dirt cheap for a 2 disc set like this (double dipping, although I abstained from purchasing any disc with no extras).

One thing I wann know is, is this the 35mm print but WITH the napalm end credits scene at the end? As the 35mm print as far as I know, doesn't contain this.

Apocalypse Now is supposed to be my favourite movie? Dunno if it still is. It's not a film I can sit down and watch again and again for one thing, but I'll be in there like a shot to buy this DVD, I was thinking about getting Apocalypse Now on DVD for some time, but it had to be worth it. Got Hearts of Darkness already.

Seeing this will be awesome, but only when I'm in the right mood.

It was never released on DVD for some totally obscene reason. Its truly
a classic film. I have no idea why it remains out of print...

I heard he and Keanu stood behind the camera and called Winona a bitch and a whore until she cried for a certan scene - they could make that an easter egg

I have to admit that it was when I watched the documentary 'Hearts of Darkness' that 'Apocalypse Now' made even more sense to me

I have both the Criterion Laser Disc and a special edition Laser disc of this movie with TONS of extras that have never been put on DVD. I'd love to see something come of that as a DVD....

Francis even did an entire version of the film as a storyboard video matic and screened it for audiences before shooting the film & got into hell-fights with the studio over doing that.

I wonder what versions and editions we will get with HD copies. Seems to me all the Re releases of DVDs are coming out with tons of extras just before HD takes off. I dont mind too much as I am willing for the moment to buy a 3 disc dvd set and then a single disc HD copy.

If they start adding extras to the HD copies that they have held back, I will be pissed.

Would love to see all those laser disc extras on DVD.

I wonder, to keep the price down if HD multi disc sets will come with a HD disc and a DVD disc with extras....

I'll just buy the DVD until DVD is phasaed out line VHS is now. I don't have a £10,000 TV so whats the point in HD? Noone has yet to tell me!

So DVDs are cheap with excellent quality and jam packed with extras (the good ones!).

So, as proven with Apocolypse now, whats the point in HD!

Man I can't wait ot stick in this DVD! You got Sleepflower?

Day one purchase. Pisses me off to no end that each version of the film is divided in half between each disk, but I acknowledge and understand the reasoning behind why this had to happen. First time purchasing the movie (I've seen it many times, and ranks high in my top 10.), so I'm not totally against rebuying for the superior formats down the road, hopefully with the HoD doc.

Looks like I'll finally be getting this. One of my favorite AN stories is how R. Lee Ermey came to be in it. He was running a whorehouse in Okinawa and got tipped that he was about to be arrested so he hightailed it to the Philippines to lay low for a while. Not long after arriving he ran into some casting people and ended up being a helicopter pilot in the movie.

Got mine last night. Some killer cool stuff on here.

Yes, it's a shame that HEARTS OF DARKNESS is not included... or even released on DVD at all.

Absolutely gorram correct.

Platoon was the "best" Viet Nam War film, but this special DVD release will be mine.

As covered by the main page of AICN, it can't be released on the same set becuase it had a different distributor, plus it doesn't halp that Francis himself doesn't like it and would only do it if he could do a commentary to explain innaccuracies in HEARTS OF DARKNESS...
