Anyone ever thought about watching a movie and posting on the zone at the same time?

I think if a bunch of us decided on a film and time, the resulting thread would make for interesting reading once the film was over.

Anyone up for conducting the experiment?

Yeah, it could be done via messenger or something.

I posted a similar idea in the podcast thread, about recording Zoner commentary tracks for films.

Messenger would be good for quick comments, but I envisage zoners posting comments when they feel they want to, without reading the thread back during the film. Once the film is over we all read the thread and discuss the comments.

I'll have to put in Flumm hours if we are going intercontinental!

Gonna be a hard one to do over so many continents.

Set a time via GMT and go watch a film. It would be a bit silly commenting during the film though as we would miss alot of whats going on.

The best example of this would be the "Eurovision Song Contest"...possibly the fastest thread in existence...but the music is shit so noone cares.

I suppose for that choice you would have to go for a well loved blockbuster....

like Commando...or Predator...

I think someone should start a vote on those old 'easy to get' classics...I recommend....."Supervixens" by Russ Meyers.

So we'd post random points during the film, then it should build up to a text commentary of the film. It might just work.

(Messenger might be a more fluid way to get comments down, and the whole thing could then be posted here to be discussed.)

Even if the resulting thread turns out to be lots of " I love this scene" " Great tracking shot" " IPAMPILASH!" it will still make for an interesting read afterwards.

Well, I thought syncronising might be good ( thus the realtime in the thread title! ), difficult across the states for sure, but I'll stay up late for a laugh. We should just try one in the UK for starters, anyone who is able to watch with us across the globe can join in. If it works well, we can try a more organised Stateside/Europe/Shanghai get together.

OK, from experience of churning the ZMC into life from out of Zone hours, this might be a good idea to mention, in terms of decision making, that there must be only one....

Well not must, but it's probably advisable.

I think we can keep throwing ideas out, that's the best way to come with interesting choices for sure, but it can sort of tail off if there isn't more than just a willfull momentum behind things, I think we need to appoint someone to round a few of em up after a few days, for a vote/final choice, take a consesnus of time, allowing for preparetion and suchness, generally that kind of thing.

So, I know I am biased and all, and I know it seems obvious, but put my vote down for comawhite.

We might actually be able to do an audio commentary with Skype, although we'd need to buy microphones. But that might be pretty cool too, I think.

Skype with Audacity works well. The other messenger programs only cope with a two person convo.

Is there anyway this can work with voice? It just seems that if 10 people do this, 10 people will be writing and no one will be watching... althoug 10 people talking at the same time could be insane!

This sounds supercool. Doc, Tapehead and I were cahtting about something similar a few weeks back - we were going to call it the AICN League of Gentlemen (wink, wink) as a kind of compliment to the League of @ssholes. Our ideas were more low-tech though; we were thinking of meeting up to watch a movie at someone's house, and recording comments into a dictafone as we watched it. This idea is much bigger, and I'd be willing to get a Skype set if it goes ahead....

I think everyone who wants to do it needs to say so asap, we then need to agree on an easy enough film to do on the first one.

THe best choice so far has been Ghostbusters. If for no other reason than:

Its easy to get

Everyone surely has seen it loads

Lots to talk about

Funny as fuck to talk about on an internet commentary

As much as I love Wrath of Kahn (BEST TREK FILM PEEPS) I can't see having a ball of a time talking about it the way we want!

But with something decent, yet fun, like Ghostbusters... we're on a roll!

Everyone should have a few drinkys (and anything else ahem) that might make the thing more of an "experience"!

I can't help think this could be an aboslute blast! :-)

Audio would be cool

But for the fact we should do one asap before the idea it drops off the face of the earth we should start with a text one.

We would HAVE to start it at the same time. If we do it with messenger it shouldn't be too tricky because we can go by the clock (i.e once we all log on and welcome each other we can agree to start the film on a minute mark)

Maybe the idea of an intermission should be discussed... thats not weener talk, but I'm thinking if we want to get more beer, take a pee or have a smoke break it could cause problems. If at a halfway point the film is paused by all then we could restart after, say, 5 -10 minutes.

The other advantage of going with a film like Ghostbusters (or others in its league) is that they aren't mega long, so including a break doesn't sod things up!

The intermission idea is not that important I guess but I thinka few of the others I and other ZOners have suggested should be seriously considered...

This could end up being a crowning glory in the history of THE ZONE!
