Absolutely superb. I paid $40 for this blind and I wasn't disappointed in the least. The opening alone will really get you and it features one of the scariest human beings ever put on film.

I don't have Net Flicks, I have functioning legs so I walk to a video store (hope that didn't come off as gloating). But here are the five videos I want to rent right now and will look for next time I am at the video store:

1. The Water Horse
2. Undisputed
3. Undisputed 2 (apparently there was something left to dispute)
4. Black Sunday (The Frankheimer flick from 1977)
5. Savage Streets

I also keep hearing about this torture porn genre so I really want to do a torture marathon and watch Hostel 1 & 2 and Captivity in one weekend. But I've been saying I'm going to do that for a while now and nothing doing.

Slightly off topic, but is anyone suffering from a jammed up que? My entire Netflix list is marked "Very Long Wait." I've had to go to Blockbuster to rent anything made after 1990.

We called to complain and amazingly, they freed up Atonement after feeding us a BS story about studio distribution. But otherwise, all they send me are DVDS of Bones and documentaries.

Amazingly, my cousin, who is a brand new customer, has been able to get everything from Juno to the Mist, whereas I'm stuck waiting. Conspiracy?

Anyway, I am just curious if it's a local problem or if everyone's been suffering.

I have an even worse problem with Netflix.

I don't return movies.

Even worse?

I don't watch them.

I've had Ocean's 13, Stardust and Bourne 3 for months. Before that, I had three other movies for almost a year. I suck.

Well I've heard rumors of "Netflix throttling," where they make getting films to members who go through a lot of DVDs less of a priority, but I'm not sure whether there's any truth to them. I do think studio distribution has at least something to do with it because I'll get popular movies like Knocked Up the week they're released but then have to wait for Miss Potter for almost a year.

Anyway, the top 5 in my queueueue:

1. The Orphanage
2. Charlie Wilson's War
3. The Savages
4. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
5. I'm Not There

one way to avoid it is to buy one of the cheap $5.99 used DVD's they put on sale. They can claim otherwise, but you get chit points for spending more $$ by either upping your plan or buying something.

it's also wise to place films that haven't been released yet at the top of your queequeg, and to return movies on Friday, that way by Monday, when they ship new releases, you have a chance of getting 'em before the interminable wait...

I have the 5 at a time plan (what, I don't have cable), and while sometimes it works out for me (even with a short wait, they still shipped me INSIDE and BLAST OF SILENCE on Tuesday, the day they were released), for popular blockbusters, if I don't time out my returns right, I can wait forever (JUNO, THE MIST).

What annoys me about them is that they don't order enough of the re-releases, like CRITERION discs...been waiting forever for TWO LANE BLACKTOP and THIS SPORTING LIFE, took me months to get KILLER OF SHEEP.

but since ALL of my local non-chain video stores have closed, and since I refuse to get a Blockbuster account and cable, I don't have much of a choice aside from the Red Envelope...

oh, and I recently came across the Community Blog, where you can find, again, after they rejiggered the site, All New DVD Releases.

man, was I ever bitter when they eliminated that from the Browsing option...

There's definitely truth to the studio story (Miss Potter being a perfect example) but I'm not buying it when it comes to new releases they should have a boatload of. They claimed the studio was withholding DVD's of popular releases from them, which I don't really buy at all, as I've never had problems getting popular movies before. I think they've gotten a rush of customers and are unprepared for the demand, imho.

KC, I'm going to try the Friday shipping. Putting soon-to-be-released at the top hasn't worked -- I had Elizabeth: The Golden Age at #1, thinking "Oh, I'll get it the day of release that way." Very Short Wait! It did come fairly quickly (the last "big" release I got, come to think of it) but it was really annoying.

I'm not sure which is worse -- that we revived our Blockbuster account, or that I would still be waiting for No Country for Old Men without it. The pain!

At least I could rationalize buying some used DVD's...hmm, time to go shopping.

Oh, and my top five:

1. August Rush (UGH -- my sister's been rearranging again!)
2. No Reservations (ok...)
3. Cloverfield (finally, one of mine)
4. Charlie Wilson's War
5. There Will Be Blood

This is what happens when you share a Netflix -- your sister's end up at the top. They will come, she will never watch them, and you send them back, delaying There Will Be Blood that much longer.

LS, it could be a problem in your area. I'm not sure where you live, but they have regional distribution centers and depending on the population of your area they might have fewer discs in inventory and if those few people really take advantage of the no return date policy, well, you could be stuck for a while, even on a newly released blockbuster movie.

I've gotten e-mails from Netflix before telling me that the title I wanted was not currently available in my region so it would be an extra couple of days while they send one out from elsewhere.

I do think it's a local problem -- and I wish they had said as much instead of a story about movie studios. I was curious if it was affecting anyone else, and since everyone is going "Only sometimes" now I'm convinced it's the yuppie hell I live in. Copies of The Mist are probably sitting on my neighbor's DVD player, covered in cobwebs.

The perplexing part of it all is that my cousin is getting new releases, and I'm not, and presumably we share the same distribution. Meh, I'll just blame her. I should have never turned her on Netflix, she's stealing my copies!

Oh well, at least I'm getting caught up on Bones...

Well, it's not really "Netflix", but "Amango" (Something German) and I just signed in to it because even if my video rental is so close to my house that I could throw stones at it from my window, I just don't have the time to go there. (Having a job sucks. But what can I say? Don't having any money sucks more.)
Well, my Top 5 at the moment is:

- Enchanted
- Tideland
- Futurama: Bender's Big Score
- Alvin and the Chipmunks
- I Am Legend

I wonder when the first one will arrive and what will it be.

Well, Netflix screwed up and gave me the Lawrence Fishburne version instead of the one with Destro. So, I let them know I received the wrong one. Anyone had any setbacks like that?

(Hell, I expect that kind of thing to happen at Family Video, where they stupidly had the box for the anime version of "Thumbelina" but they only had the tape for the Don Bluth version...)

Besides, it's probably one of his that I'm really looking forward to seeing...and it's not just because of the tub sex.

Image

Of course, I hope whatever I have next is entertaining as "Film Crew: Giant of Marathon" didn't do much for me. (Although the bits with Mike, Bill and Kevin were funny, the movie was worse than "300".) And I still have yet to watch "Annie Hall".

So here's my modified list.

MST3k: Parts: The Clonus Horror (The inspiration for "The Island")
Interstella 5555
My Neighbor Totoro
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends Season 2
The Pirate Movie

Here's my Top 5, though I think I'll be moving them around a bit:

YOJIMBO
METROPOLIS
THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI
STRAY DOG
BLACK MASK 2: CITY OF MASKS

Which of these does not belong?

I once ordered Children of Men off Amazon and got sent a CD full of Nazi Stormtrooper Chants. I'm 100% serious! I also got sent a Liberace CD by accident too. I swear that they've got a mole from Play.com working in one of their warehouses.
