Freebies!

Postby LaDracul on Wed Jul 04, 2007 11:26 pm

Yes, there are some of us that buy DVDs we want due to freebies that a store or studio will tack on there (I recently used the movie money from Disney films to see POTC 3 and "Ratatouille") and it's great. Other times, it's not. I'm pointing out the fact that my employer, Wal-Mart, decided to give away "Transformers" beach balls with selected Paramount DVDs. And Best Buy was giving out concession cash with selected Paramount DVDs. Okay, why would anyone want a crap beach ball instead of concession cash?

So, what's your opinion?

I love anything free. I got a die-cast model of the Aston Martin from 'Casino Royale' when I bought the DVD. Good stuff.

Amazon sent me a copy of Will Farrel's Elf for some reason - I never ordered it and they never charged me for it. I wasn't interested in watching it, so I gave it to my 5-year-old nephew for Christmas.

I wish Amazon had never sent it. If they hadn't, then I would have been forced to get my nephew something MUCH cooler!

(just kinda kidding - I got the kid some cool stuff besides!)

I usually consider free stuff an insurance policy. Like, if the CD turns out to be shitty, at least I got a free movie ticket out of it. I'm rarely persuaded to buy something that I wouldn't have otherwise, just for the freebie.

Right now, I'm having a hard time finding a copy of "Simpsons Season 3" with the ticket for a reasonable price. I might break down next payday and get it, but at my store, we do have a T-shirt packaged with some seasons. That's better than a crummy beach ball. :)

A few years ago Amazon.com sent me a free DVD of Bambi. Yes, Bambi. I guess they wanted me to review it, but I still haven't even opened it. I may do the same thing you did and give it to my nephew when he gets old enough to develop an appreciation for movies.
