What Is Your Blu Ray Reference Movie?

Postby Fievel on Thu Nov 26, 2009 2:40 am

So you've got a friend that comes over. They notice you have a sweet HDTV.
You want to show just how good a TV it is so you put in a Blu Ray disc...............what movie is it?

I'm asking this because I'm getting my BluRay player (via a Playstation 3) within the next couple of days. I'm going to buy a movie as well, but only want to buy one (no sense in getting TOO greedy right before Christmas).... and one that shows how amazing the world of 1080p High Definition is.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Planet Earth looks incredible.
Godfather Trilogy.

Blu-ray.com has a ton of great reviews on pic quality and sound.

Planet Earth is probably one of the best blu-ray series to demo HD with.

Either the BAtman Begins disc, using the DARK KNIGHT PROLOGUE, or the actual DARK KNIGHT disc for the opening scene. I prefer the prologue because of the way it ends as more of trailer and the music is different.

This was shot in IMAX and it's full frame (1.78 to 1, so full HD aspect) and the sound is incredible. This is my demo for surround and HD picture in 1080.

To me, the most impressive thing about Blu Ray is the sound. So I just put on Master and Commander. HOLY SHIT! The neighbors 6 houses down heard those battles. That was some awesome sound design, and it certainly pushed my surround sound.

I'm gonna say Speed Racer. (mostly because I just got it as an early x-mas gift from djj)

The colors and the amount of action constantly going on are a true test to just how well your tv can perform.

I just got Star Trek on Bluray and the opening looks really impressive, shame the story doesn't hold up second time round.

My reference film will be DISTRICT 9, as off tomorrow when it goes on release.
