I don't know, I saw Wonderfalls first and I couldn't get the image of that bitch she played out of my head, She ain't ugly but I don't see the big deal.

Did anyone else think she was going to be left crippled at the end of the first episode? I had visions of the Show being politically correct by having a paralysed mechanic, thank god she was walking in the next episode even if the continuity sucked.

She is a bit Moon Faced IMO.

Apples & Oranges.

BTW Peven I mostly agree with your points about the way Joss usually writes the male characters as being more flawed/weaker than the female characters.

I bet if you were to do some reseach Buffy would have a higher percentage of Female viewers to Male, most people I know who watched Buffy (I don't like it at all minus a few good episodes that have been recommended to me specifically) watched because their GF's/Partners were hooked. Maybe thats just me.

JL, I didn't watch Wonderfalls until after I had seen Firefly and Serenity. And the chick who lent me Wonderfalls, didn't tell me about Kaylee playing Eric's wife. MAN, was I shocked!! I hated her so much after that.....

i can't get into Buffy at all, and the biggest fans i know of the show are all women. thats not a BAD thing, men have their shows too. as for Firefly/Serenity, i own Serenity on dvd and plan on picking up the Firefly set too, and i would be interested in seeing more whether its on tv or the big screen, but i confess my world didn't end when the show was cancelled the way it did for the big time Whedon fans.

i like that the captain was given his due in the end of Serenity by being shown as a pretty kickass fighting machine in his own right, as i liked his character right from the start in the pilot episode. the humor that Jayne brings to table is another big plus for me too, and if he had died in the movie it would have impacted me more than who DID bite it.

Although Inara is wicked-hot, there's just something about kaylee....

If I'm on Serenity, that doesn't happen. Ever.

I am a male fan of Buffy, although I AM a fan of shows that feature strong female characters. I'd assume that comes from being raised primarily by my mother (also, my sister and wife are both very strong women as well). Guess we like what we know, right? :-)

I agree with Peven's take on Mal at the end of Serenity. He's a kick ass but not pretty fighter. Good contrast to the Operative, and justifies him as the head of the crew (there's been times where you wonder why everyone follows him so faithfully). I love Jayne too, but the characters that will be missing in future projects will hurt a great deal. 2 of my favs.

Kaylee was also the character who I thought had changed appearance the most from the series eps to the movie - I seem to remember Wheadon on one of the ep commentaries saying that he's asked the actor to gain weight - she's not overweight, but there's a softness to her features which she's lost in "Serenity": either way she's super cute - though I'd have to go with River/Summer Glau as being the most intriguing attractive character, followed by Inara

You might reconsider that after you've seen the series. Jayne gets a lot of funny stuff, mainly cause he is a social retard & , like my five year old daughter, says a lot of shit out loud that shouldn't have passed the vocal chords. But one of the film's casualties in particular was a very fascinating character that I think Joss had mondo plans for. And the other was just likeable as hell, although he/she got very little exposure in the film. But if you like Serenity, I feel confidant you'll have a good time with the series DVDs.

Kaylee is cute, what with her whole tech-geek girl-next-doorness, but Inara is freakin' knockout; she's beeyooteeful.

River is cuteiful as well, but her schizophrenia is off putting. She gives me more "big brother / protector" feelings than romantic ones...

It's just that thing about random/scattered personalities that I always find irresistable - wheadon has a few of these types of kind of broken characters, (edit) like Drusilla in Buffy, but less damned - you just get the feeling that River might do anything unexpectedly

I finally got around to watching the final episode last night - and I'm glad I waited to take part in this poll until then, because "Objects in Space" instantly became my favourite. That Bounty Hunter dude has the best dialogue in the whole show, IMO.

When River is trying to freak him out over the tannoy, she giggles and he says "that's somewhat unsettling" - that line made me piss myself. Great show. I need to see Serenity.......now!

I went with Objects in Space too, although Our Mrs Reynolds is a very close second, I love the humour in that episode and the way Inara acts when she pretends to have been knocked out. Plus it has my favourite line from the whole show: "That's good bible" and then Shepherd Book's constant references to the "special hell".

I still believe Angel is the best show Joss has ever done, it's a good deal darker than Buffy and has more nuanced frayed characters. Plus every so often you get an one of those episodes that just ends in a perfect "HOLY SHEEIT" moment.

I miss Angel a lot too, I took to it more than Buffy since the days when Doyle was hanging about the office. This ain't to say I don't have much love for the Buffster, it's just that Angel was a much more consistently entertaining show (at least after Buffy blew up the high-school). I remember the days when I could lie back, catch a double-bill of Buffy and Angel, and then consider ways of improving myself so as to nab me a bit of that Willow...mmhmm.

I've watched all FIREFLY but not yet seen SERENITY. I thought War Stories should've been the best episode, but for some reason Alan Tudyk just didn't carry off his characters arc for that episode. Shame, because he's a good actor...but there you go.

For me that was the episode that finally hooked me on River - a character that up until then I found just too alienating...and in fact pretty irritating. Fillion was good in it, but as a piece I thought it was more "opportunity lost" than "tune in next week".

Can't wait to watch Serenity...but am gutted that it looks as if Book is barely touched on in the film...he was one of the most interesting characters to me.

no doubt, i'm having serious Whedon withdrawal. I think I'd even agree to let him backburner the Spike/Willow tv movie idea in order to get a weekly Whedon fix.

I always thought it was a shame Whedon start this show on network, had Firefly just started out on WB/UPN or even something like FX or Sci-Fi, it'd probably still be on the air today. Show was just a bit too niche for the kind of mainstream appeal network tv requires.

But wasn't Firefly one of the most expensive shows ever? The pilot alone cost $10 million (the most expensive ever until the Lost pilot), there's no way that Sci-Fi could afford that. Firefly used an insane amount of location shooting (far more than Buffy or Angel ever did) and that would have been drastically reduced on sci-fi.

I don't know where people get this crap, but Firefly is NOT coming back! I love the show as much as the next guy, but I also like to live on a little planet called EARTH.

From the mouth of Joss:

Since everyone's all abuzz with the CW rumor, I have to get all official and say: WE'VE STARTED FILMING NEW EPISODES! Of Dateline. I'm such a troll.

No, there haven't been any overtures from the CW as regards a SereniFly spin-off. I haven't even heard the orchestra tuning up. But if they happen to come calling, I do know what I would do:

1) In order to keep the show cost efficient, we would get rid of a few things we don't need, like spaceships, floors, and Jewel. (You thought I was gonna say 'costumes', didn't you? Porn guy.)

2) Nathan is busy making movies, but since I don't want new cast members, everybody in the cast would just move over one. Jewel (she's back!) would play Mal, Ron would play Kaylee, Morena would play Book, and so on.

3) People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy.

4) The actors can make up their dialogue. I'm bushed, and they're all funny, and the hell with it. Maybe I'll give them a premise to work off of, like "You're all in trouble" or "Wash has a thing". They could maybe light it too.

5) Klingons, but not alien Klingons. But still Klingons.

So already the show is running like a well oiled companion. I'm just proud to be a part of the Country Western network, and I know this will be their biggest hit since "Have Space-Gun, Will Travel."

I hope, as always, this clears things up. And I hope the executives at the Carnie Wilson network DO give me a call. I've got a million ideas for redoing their offices.

Power to the people who are powerful enough to crush the other people! -jossy.

never had any use for her, Gabrielle that is, and in fact she irritated the shit out of me. Xena was my cheesecake for that show; if you take a close look, actually, if Kaylee dyed her hair black she could about be Xena's sister, imo.
