Much as I hate to give props to Herc...

The greatest TV in history is being made right now. The worst TV in history is being made right now.

Much as I hate to give props to Herc...

Postby Pacino86845 on Thu Dec 01, 2005 11:05 am

...this certainly won't be one of those occasions. He has a link to a really interesting story about the Letterman-Oprah feud. I had not known the magnitude of that feud until I read the article Herc links to... here's the link to the main site:
http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=21940

That's right, it's a link to a link. If we kept linking to these links within links, perhaps the blackhole we started here will expand and swallow the entire interweb.
And I'd forgotten how funny Letterman can get some times... he seems even funnier in print:
April 10, 2000: Oprah's magazine, O, debuts this month. Dave responds with a Top 10 list: "Top 10 Articles in Oprah's New Magazine." Excerpts:

No. 7: "While You're Reading This, I Made 50 Million Dollars"

No. 4: "My Love Affair With Oprah," By Oprah

No. 1: "The Time I Had To Wait 5 Minutes For A Skim Half-Decaf Latte"

Still mocking, Dave later shows readers his new magazine. . . D.

Nov. 8, 2001 Dave tries to make amends. He asks to be a guest on Oprah's show, then waits for her to call and invite him. While waiting for the call, Dave starts the Oprah Log, a daily diary of his wait.

Day 1: Did not hear from Oprah.

Day 2: Did not hear from Oprah.

Day 6: Oprah did not call.

Day 33: Did not hear from Oprah. Will never hear from Oprah.

Day 61: Oprah? N'oprah.

Declares many times that "it ain't Oprah till it's Oprah."

...

In 1985, Letterman distracted Gumbel and Jane Pauley during a Today Show special in Rockefeller Center by leaning out a seventh-floor window and yelling through a bullhorn. Letterman yelled -- among other things -- "I'm Larry Grossman, president of NBC News, and I'm not wearing any pants."

IPAMPILASH, Letterman!
EDIT: I edited the above to eliminate traces of my ignorance, and replace those traces with some comedy.

See if the past is any indicator, now that Herc mentioned them in his article, both Oprah and Letterman will be cancelled, and someone will start an online petition to bring them back.

Hilarious article. I had to stop reading it as I was PAMPILASHing too obviously at work. Will finish soiling myself when I get home.

Soiling complete. So good. I'm amazed no legal action was taken - people have sued for less. I like this as well:

David Letterman v. Bryant Gumbel edited. note to self: read things properly

I have not seen much Letterman but he does seem like a funny guy - not just a piss-taker. It used to be on ITV2 I think but I haven't had cable for years. Oprah baffles me - who watches it? Can't just be women.

Well, women do outnumber men, so if all women watched Oprah, then it could be said that the most popular program in the US is Oprah... but of course, this is a simplification.

Any time someone tells me about something they saw on Oprah I have to fight an impulse to punch them in the mouth. What's that about?

Sounds like a case of aggressive Oprahphobia, the second leading cause of death among males, right below heart disease.

Oprah rules my house. My wife watches it religiously and the episodes I've seen are great. She is true to her game. Filling up a daily hour long show must be tough and sometimes the topics are sensationalized. But.

Oprah built her empire. You have to respect someone who reaches the top and can't just hate because she did it.

She's a humanitarian billionaire. Not someone like the Bush's who are also billionaires but have never been to a third world country unless they are there to bomb it. (Oh no I didn't!)

Love Oprah Burl. She is going to die for your sins someday.

I'll admit... I gave the DaVinci Code a read because of how popular it was (free read though, the wife works part-time in a book store and checked it out for me).

Man, did that book suck.

Oprah's cool, though honestly I've watched more Ellen than Oprah, but maybe that's just a timing thing. My TV doesn't usually get powered up until after 5pm.

As far as letterman, I'd rather watch reruns of southpark on comedy central until conan comes on.

Anyway wasn't this about Herc, and how everything is his fault?

AWESOME article.

And Herc does deserve props for LINKING to it.

wow. Great job, herc.

Clap. Clap. Clap.

I mean, it's not like he wrote it, but hey, he linked to it, and that's almost as good. Right?

Sheesh.

Come on, Pacino... I thought we were on the same side, here.
