24: Seasons 1 to 5 (w/ Punky Power!)

The greatest TV in history is being made right now. The worst TV in history is being made right now.

Postby tcovil on Thu Oct 05, 2006 2:24 pm

I just saw in USA TODAY that Fox has set firm dates for 24's return in January. Just like last year, there will be back-to-back 2-hour episodes. Dates are Jan. 14 and 15 at 8pm EST, and then it settles into its normal Monday 9pm slot on Jan. 22.

It also says that the first trailer for Season 6 will be at www.24trailer.com on 10/24/06 at 3pm EST, and then it will be shown on TV that same night during Game 3 of the World Series.

I'm interested in seeing what the show does after that season 5 finale. It's interesting seeing the staff write their way out of corners, but I do think the show gets kind of repetitive after a while.

Hopefully the season premiere doesn't go down something like this:

TWO YEARS LATER:
Jack Bauer: "Well, thank God I was rescued from China somehow."

If they do that, I will personally hunt down & press in the eyeballs of any writer, producer or grip that lets that happen.

Nothing will use up a viewer's well of goodwill faster than getting pimped out by sloth.

Maybe they'll experiment with flashbacks this season.

How many minutes does it take to have a flashback, anyway?

Hey guys! Check it out! Apparently Dennis Haysbert isn't gonna run for the minority leadership in the House come January. I say good on him! It would totally be a step down after serving as President for four years. Why should he go for that job? I was just happy to find out he pulled through after getting shot last year. I hadn't heard about that.

What happened to the 'German' secret service guy that Jack double crossed? The Scottish guy that's now in Lost played him.

Also, the Russian president who seemed to know what was going on and became really pissed when he was sold out by the American president, only to walk off and do nothing?

I'm massively behind, the fifth series only just came out on DVD over here and i've watched it all this week.

Extras star lands 24 cameo role

Merchant created The Office with Gervais before working on Extras
Extras star Stephen Merchant is to have a cameo role in TV drama 24 - but his comedy sidekick Ricky Gervais will not appear as he is "too recognisable".
Merchant, who played an incompetent agent in the BBC sitcom, will be seen handing a piece of paper to a member of staff at the Counter-Terrorism Unit.

But Gervais was asked to record a spoof scene, which producers want to release on DVD, his spokeswoman has confirmed.

He appears as an official who is upset when someone steals an idea of his.

The Bafta-winning actor and comedian is seen whispering under his breath that a mission should be given to Special Agent Jack Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland.

Then he appears incredulous when someone else makes a similar suggestion and takes the credit for the idea.

Executive producer Jon Cassar told the New York Post he hoped that Gervais would agree to let the scene appear as a bonus on the DVD release of the sixth season.

Fox is due to show the first episode of that series in the US on 14 January.

And LOL at Stephan Merchant's cameo. I kinda wish they would let Gervais have a cameo too. It would be like having The D show up as terrorists in a scene.

Now Rick Schroeder has been added to the cast!

Postby tcovil on Mon Dec 04, 2006 3:05 pm

In addition to Boothe, Balfour, etc. noted below, it was reported in Monday's USA TODAY that Rick Schroeder (Silver Spoons, NYPD Blue) has been added to the cast and will play a CTU agent. It also lists Chad Lowe as a cast member. They already had the lesser-known brother of Matt Dillon. Now they get Rob's brother. Are there any other in-the-shadow brothers they can bring in, like maybe a Baldwin or else Ron Howard's little bro?

24 universe looks to be a bit crowded this season.

Hope that turns out to be a good thing.

And are we going to see what happened to that little rat-fuck Miles?

I'm almost positive I read somewhere or saw a clip involving Miles in the upcoming season.

Another person who's in the cast but wasn't mentioned in the USA TODAY piece -- Eddie Izzard. Love that guy's comedy, can't wait to see him in the 24 universe.

The first 4 hours have been sent to the media, and the first review is STELLAR! Here's Hal Boedeker from the Orlando Sentinel:

Perhaps Donald Trump has been babbling so much lately because he realizes his days as a television star are numbered. "The Apprentice," which starts a new season Sunday, has faded badly.

Yet "24," which returns Jan. 14, is taking audacious chances in its sixth season. With a new toughness and topicality, this Emmy-winning drama is forcing viewers to think about the war on terrorism. Star Kiefer Sutherland seizes new acting challenges; he plays Jack Bauer as worn out and demoralized. This series has always been rousing entertainment, but now "24" is trying for something deeper, and succeeding. In a way comparable to "Casino Royale" overhauling the James Bond franchise, "24" has reinvented itself. That is what great television series do.

Not to say I don't trust the Orlando Sentinel or whatever, but hasn't "24" kinda always been topical? I mean, last year's plot was all about falsifying the presence of WMDs so that we could invade Asian territory and secure oil supplies. Maybe Kiefer adds a couple new nuances to the character of Jack Bauer, but I'll believe the whole "re-invention" tip when I see it. And I'm still pissed that they completely voided the season 5 cliffhanger.

Why re-invent it? Why do people always want something to be re-invented. No, I don't want that at all. I want my 24 the way it's always been and I'm not afraid to say it. Now, I'm not suggesting it get stale, but a re-invention is a little extreme. If I want something drastically different, I'll go watch Three's Company.

I'm not necessarily saying "24" is a show that should be re-invented, I was just expressing skepticism over this review:
