The only way this could work is if Snipes was involved or the Reynolds/Biel characters were doing a Buffy type slaying thing. (Not with the same actors obviously unless they could tear them away from feature films).

I swear I once read that Michael Jai White was also up for the role and was passed over for Mr. Googley Eye there. I cant find it now, so maybe it was a result of a Pixie stick spawned hallucination, I dunno. Michael Jai White would have made a better Blade though...

Man, how come everybody loves Michael Jai White? What has he ever done? I mean I like Exit Wounds as much as the next guy (in fact, way more than the next guy) but I don't see why anybody gives a shit about him. As far as I know his greatest accomplishment to date is being in a scene that was cut out of Kill Bill. Also I remember a movie he was in called "Spawn" which probaly should've disqualified him and everyone else involved from ever even stepping into a movie theater again, let alone making a movie or a Blade TV series.

Anyway, I'm very skeptical about Blade tv show, I doubt it will work because come on man. Wesley Snipes is Blade and Blade is Wesley Snipes and Blade is Blade. The only thing that keeps me open minded at all is that I thought the same thing about Jennifer Lopez as Karen Sisco but I still liked the Karen Sisco show with Carla Gugino. Only time will tell, but I ain't holding my breath.

Anyone else been watching this? I never read the comic, so the only awareness I have of the character is from the 90s Spider-Man cartoon and the movies . . .

personally, I'm really digging this show. It largely follows the story of a female character, Krista, whose brother was murdered in the first episode by vampires, and who ends up crossing paths with Blade. I won't go into any more details so I don't spoil it, but I just really like the casting in general. It's not the typical casting types of network tv (if you know what I mean?), and I'm not used it, but I love it. The best part is this insane amount of gratuitous sex and gore . . . much moreso than in the movies . . . not to mention storylines and villains that are actually NOT cheesy, which is a pleasant change. Hopefully it will continue to be as entertaining . . . I definitely recommend checking it out if you get the chance (10 pm eastern, Wed, Spike)

I could see it being underwhelming if you're expecting something huge. It's just cool . . . it's violent, has a solid, unfolding mystery-style plot, and I love vampires, so it makes me happy :)

this Sunday, 1pm Eastern
Spike TV
6 Episode marathon of Blade: The Series

just a heads up for those of you who missed the first few episodes. I highly recommend it - I'm impressed with the high level of action, as well as some actual intelligence, especially for a cable channel serial.

And btw, tonight's episode - I'm definitely a fan . . . that little girl is fucking creepy ^_^ . . . and I really liked the honesty in terms of acceptable risks (ironic reactions to ally casualties, etc)

Yes, the show is actually very cool; I'm totally loving it. At first, I was
disappointed by "Sticky", but now I dig 'em; he ain't no Wesley Snipes,
but he's still bad ass...

For me, though, the show is all about Chase the super-sexy and eeeevil
vampire lady with the delicious accent; pure blood lustful; all power and
malice...

Image

I reckon the show is a must watch for vampire fans... its much smarter
than it was initially given credit for. Very neato vampire-political intrigue,
superscience, mysticism, and straight up ass-kickery...

I think its a keeper; potentially a big deal cult hit! I love it!

I was never a big fan of blade, however I have watched this series on and off, the only thing for me is how under developed blade is, he's almost like the Angel's character in the first season of Buffy, just coming along when he's needed.

Anyway I wont say anymore as I've only watched the first three episodes which is unfair to judge any show on.

That is an interesting thing to note because, so far, it really is the other
characters -- especially Chase and Marcus; the main vampire nemesii --
who steal the show. The development of these characters, the
byzantine power struggles between (and inside) the vampire houses,
takes the main stage and seems to be the main focus. Personally, I not
only think thats really clever, its superf*ckin' cool! Bad guys are always
more interesting than good guys...

And I reckon, like Buffy, its only going to get better and better as the
show progresses. 1st season of Buffy was cool and stuff, but it wasn't
until Season 2 that it became a legend...

Oh, and Catherine (or Christine) the young girl pure blood (who looks
astonishingly like Emma "Hermione" Watson) is perfect! So eerie!

i too have gotten into the series, though i missed the last two shows due to being away from home, visiting my parents, and my dad watches baseball every night like a religious fundamentalist watches the 700 Club. despite the poor reviews, i think the show is more than just flash and blood, i enjoy the vampire mythology, politics, and the mystic aspect to it all. for my money, i'll take it over Buffy any day, as Buffy had a cheese element to it where Blade is darker and has more edge. at least, imho.

I watched last night's ep, the first ep I've seen. It was okay. There was obviously something deeper going on, but I guess I missed out on some stuff because I wasn't quite sure who people were or what they were doing or why. I was also surprised at the lack of Blade in a show titled Blade and I hope this ep was a fluke and not the standard.

I was intrigued enough to set my VCR to record that marathon on Sunday.

I thought she was Emma Watson at first but then I discovered who she is. She is Emily Hurst. I couldn't remember where I had seen her before (and it was driving me crazy), but then I remembered that she was the little girl who could control glass that was on this season of Smallville for one episode. That little girl is going places.

was great! So sinister and demanding! Creepy! I'm looking forward to

Shit I agree - tonight's episode went even deeper into Charlotte's character . . . shiiiiit she's creepy as fuck . . . I'd go so far as to say more so than Claudia in Interview with the Vampire (not to mention I have a feeling this actress will grow up to be someone far different than Kirsten Dunst . . . she's more of a Scarlett Johanssen at the very least).

Either way, great episode - possibly the best in terms of plot line and insight into the direction things are going. I agree with you guys - I'm really loving the concentration on the bad guys . . . cause most of the time, they're so much more damn interesting.

Regardless, next week's likely Blade-centric episode looks fucking sweet . . . his back story as a kid?! This series is shaping to be something way more than we could have bargained for :-D

Oh yeah, last nights episode was totally kick ass! The percolating BLADE
backstory is aces! (And looks to be getting even better; prequel Whistler?)

Charlotte totally rules, and I love the whole vampire politicing. Its really
getting better and better by leaps and bounds. As far as characters,
although Chase and Marcus are still my faves, Charlotte is gaining
ground...

SPOILERS! (in tiny text):

How gruesome was Chase's retrieval??? Really, really hardcore
gore fora tv show (vaguely crispy critter Anakin-y, but more bloody).
I'm just really glad that she's slowly coming back; I woulda been way
pissed off ifthey killed her...

OH! And how gruesome was Krista's disfigurement? Kinda neat, too, how
it seemed to fit into Krista's combat-survivor guilt? Like she wanted
to be wounded; not just as cover, but as a weird sorta psycho-traumatic
guilt masochist complex. Fucking brilliant writing!

i was pretty impressed, too, with how far they are going with the stuff you mentioned in your tiny spoiler section. i think it gives the show more depth, as well as adding more of a sense of "what the hell will happen next" suspense while watching each new episode. can't wait to see the backstory treatment next week either.

I'm caught up on the series now and I have to say it's surprisingly good. Not what I was expecting from a Spike TV series. :P

I wish the title character were a bit more . . . I don't know . . . charismatic, but whatever. There's enough going on where it doesn't really matter at this point.

yeah, it really is something worth at least giving a chance. Obviously it's not the end all and be all of television series, but if you're into that sort of thing, it's very easy to develop a liking for it (sort of like Havoc's mom). It is very SpikeTV in its awesomely gratuitous violence (and on the rare occasion sexuality . . . also characteristic of Havoc's mom), but otherwise it comes across very much like a network tv show, not the usual low-budget cable fare.

Yeh vampires and vampire mythology stuff is right up my *cough* alley (also like havoc's mum). I hadn't even looked in on this thread but from what you guys say, iI'm even more interested in seeing it.
Elitism is positing that your taste is equivalent to quality, you hate "Hamlet" does it make it "bad"? If you think so, you're one elite motherfucker.

First of all, Jill Wagner equals HAWT I mean I can't even begin to do justice in words to how fuckable this women is, I have a serious serious crush.

Second, after the pilot I'm certainly intrigued, I wasn't that impressed but as you guys say it gets better and it's certainly not a bad show or anything. More gore and Krista wearing split to the crotch dresses please

Wednesday night's episode was excellent. best yet. the full rear nudity of Chase alone was worth the ticket price. plus, Marcus gets to show why you would never want to sit down at a poker table with him. aside from the fact that he'd rip your throat out if you had the audacity to beat him. the........development with the good vampire chick's(the one working for Blade, i can never remember her name. Rebecca maybe?) mother is handled unflichingly well, imo and stays true to the hardnosed world of Blade. this series just gets better and better.
