Peter Jennings Is Gone

Postby Guest on Mon Aug 08, 2005 1:00 am

Hey folks, Harry here... Peter Jennings just passed away. He'd been fighting Lung Cancer for some time now - and well... that's one thing killing folks that we have a lot further to go in fighting it. Honestly, I never really watched ABC NEWS, I've always been more of a CBS NEWS junkie in terms of my network news of choice. But usually - we all chose the "network" of choice, then if you'r

An Irish blessing...

"May the road rise up to meet you...
"May the wind be always at your back...
"May the Lord always hold you in the hollow of His hand."

G'journey, Mr. Jennings. You will be missed.

Sad, sad news. He so obviously cared for and respected the whole institution of the nightly network news. He would have chosen right over ratings every time.
I hate to think what TV news will be like in ten years time.

...that was the funniest post I've ever read at AICN. Comedy gold. I'm stealing it and shooting it in nothing other than a static two-shot. - Kevin Smith

Holy shit...

This man was the news for my entire life...

Goddammit...

A true professional, and by all accounts a truly stand-up guy. I remember a few years ago, a Portland radio station called Jennings on his birthday pretending to be President Clinton. The man was so sharp as hell, despite the fact that all of his staff fell for it, he knew right away not only that it was a prank, but which radio station was calling. And, unlike many people, he didn't get angry or impatient, he just laughed and chatted with the guys.

I'm going to miss him.

It's fitting, since both Jennings and Degrassi Jr. High were from Toronto.

In a time when people increasingly take their news with a grain of salt, Peter Jennings could always be counted on to tell it like it was. A lot of anchorpeople live up to the stereotype exaggerated by Will Ferrell. Jennings was the antithesis of the shallow, talking head. He will certainly be missed.
