Curb Your Enthusiasm

Curb Your Enthusiasm is the King of the Shows. I've seen the first season and a half, and woah. It's blown me away, baby.

That's surprising.

You are aware that Joss Whedon doesn't write it, right?

I actually don't think it would be as good if Whedon wrote an episode. CYB is very much different to Whedon's style of TV.

Yes, I love Whedon, and would do him over and over and over, but he's not the man for CYE.

I think Seinfeld is average, btw.

Two words:

THE WIRE

And one more:

DEADWOOD

And, oh, one more:

CARNIVALE

Ehr... original/UK THE OFFICE?

I've never seen The Wire, although I've heard great things.

Deadwood and Carnivale, I didn't like. Watched the first 4 episodes of each, and thought 'fuck this'

The Office (original) is the third best show ever made. The remake is pretty damn good too, but not nearly as good.

My favourite TV Show ever.

DEADWOOD

One of my favourites ever

CARNIVALE

Agreed

Ehr... original/UK THE OFFICE?

Makes me cringe too much but it is masterful if not personally entertaining for my delicate sensibilities.

Don't forget

The Shield
Twin Peaks
Rome
Sopranos
Lost (apart from Charlie & Claire)
Battlestar Galactica (New Version)

So.... you've discovered Larry David - its a great show - a lot of it's ad-libbed to David's general storylines. It owes a fair bit to Gary Shandling's tonight-show host show 'The Larry Sanders Show' and maybe even Britain's Alan Partridge. I envy you - there's still three and a half series of this show you haven't seen yet, as well as the 'Larry does Stand-up' HBO 'documentary', also called 'Curb your Enthusiasm' (I think) which inspired the series

I've seen that 'Larry does Stand-Up' - that was the pilot episode of the series, right?

One thing that's interesting is how the pilot is a mockumentary, and the rest of the episodes aren't. Yet the filming style is much the same. Has Larry said anything about that switch and why he did it?

But honestly - after I saw Freaks and Geeks about 6 months ago, I thought I'd never again have that feeling of 'I've just discovered the best tv show ever'. But I have it makes me ridiculously happy.

Weird thing is, the first time I saw CYE was ages ago, it was the season 3 premiere, and I HATED HATED HATED it. It didn't make me laugh, since I was expecting a laugh-a-minute comedy, and it wasn't that at all. It's far more subdued and downbeat than most tv comedies, where the typical stuff is things like Scrubs and My Name Is Earl.

Best TV show I've seen since Twin Peaks - a Masterpiece.

I agree that CYE is very funny - but it is very true that it owes a massive debt to The Larry Sanders Show, which I used to love back in the 90s. I saw a repeat the other day, and it had Haley Joel Osment when he was about 3 years old - the little freak!

It really is quite good. And fairly influential if you look at all the new tv comedies these days.

Season Six starts September 9th. I love this show, and might try making this thread actually worth reading as the new episodes start airing. Resident HBO devotees, I expect you to be here...

I'll be here Tape. Obviously.

I love CYE. I actually like it more than Seinfeld, which is almost heresy.

All the episodes follow the same formula, but it works so why mess with it.

"Car Wash gentleman" is possibly the greatest ever use of profanity. That whole episode is genius and was actually the first ep I ever saw. There are a few lame episodes though, it must be said.

I will be dl'ing season six for sure.

I'm with Maui and VB and have seen them all on DVD or recording - But it was when I saw the end of series three "the Grand Opening", with it's climactic symphony of tourettes-like swearing, that I really fell in love with it.

4. Black cable guy

6. Shrimp Chinese Food

Thanks. I also found the ski lift one funny. I've been stuck on the chairlift many times, I even jumped off a chairlift. It just really hit home for me.

Baseball bat to the smoke alarm. I can totally understand wanting to do that. DAMN FIRE ALARMS.

"That's like if my name was Larry Jew."

good episode.

Things like that are why CYE is so good - just like Fawlty Towers, the humour comes mainly from seeing Larry/Basil's frustration snowball into full-blown madness as the episode progresses.

You want to have sex with Cha Cha????

When they served the cake - you just heard this SCREAM! hahahahah

Then all the wrong party dates. hahahah I've actually done this, no kidding. I've showed up at a party a day late. I only did this once, and it was a honest mistake. I was invited in, had some wine, and still enjoyed myself, unlike Larry & co.

I laughed so hard, I cried watching this show. What a way to start the new season!!!

"cum is not cum larry?"
"I brings the ruckus to the ladies"

"Come over to my house and whack off, what do I care?"

"Your part of the problem senator"

"If your anonymous how come people know about it?"

"Guess who jerked off on our blanket. It was Jeff. Isnt that hilarious?"

"Ghost? Where I come from you see someone in the sheet you think of KKK."

This was a great episode.

So I finally set my DVR to record the entire series - no more catchup.

2nd episode - too freakin' funny. I like the hurricane family - they are hilarious. Chasing down that Jersey from the dry cleaners. Anonymous walls. Soiled blankets - ewwwwwwwww, still very funny. Banning from houses. :D

I love this show!!!!!
