I liked this show when it first started as a short...something MTV put up inbetween videos or other shows...then it got played out...although there were some great matchups....

Perhaps I need to change the title. I'm less concerned with the MTV claymation stuff then just people's opinions on who they think would win between Mal and John.

Much as I like Mal, I think I'd probably have to put my money on John and his trust gun Winona.

FARSCAPE?!

We're putting Mal Reynolds against the schmo from fucking Farscape?! Puh-leeze...

Mal wins by impaling all of those Farscape muppet folk--AND John Crichton--with a wonky primary buffer panel.

Well, duh, MAL! Of course...

A more interesting fight (one sure to start a geekriot) is this...

HAN SOLO vs. MAL REYNOLDS

Who would win? (Hint: the answer is Han Solo)

Ok, the muppet wasn't the best...but I still dug the show. And I liked John quite a bit.

Han Solo as he currently exists waits until disgruntled Rodians take point blank shots at his face.

Mal Reynolds lies, cheats, steals, and shoots rotten folk clean in the back.

Mal Reynolds beat Special Edition Han Solo.

Don't get me wrong here... I've only seen about 2/3 of Farscape, and none of Firefly, but wasn't Chrichton a ultra tech savvy, time travelling by the power of his mind, suuupa genius or something?

Any answer to this query is moot, for both would fall before the devastating might of...

Lt. Starbuck (original Dirk Benedict version)

Given the choices though, I guess I go with Crichton because I thought WestWorld was cool, and both Sphere and The Andromeda Strain weren't too shabby...but then again, The Lost World and Timeline were sort of hackneyed.

What? Different Chrichton? Well I'll be damned...guess I vote for Mr. Spock then.

Crichton would kick his ass. Yes, I know Mal was a solider and John just an astronaut, but COME ON.

John doesn't have nearly the fortitude and will that one Malcolm Reynolds has.

Mal wins because Zoe, in hiding, shoots Crichton in the back. Nobody (even Aeryn Sun) really liked Crichton enough to shoot Mal in the back for him.

So what? Crichton's kid, that Aeryn was pergnant with, was out of hate if she never really liked him? An accident?

EDIT - She was also a Peacekeeper. That alone tells me that she'd shoot someone in the back. (wow, that doesn't make much sense unless you've seen the show)

There's plenty of sex and even love without like.

I watched the show for years. Sure, Sun would shoot someone in the back. But I never really felt Crichton was particularly well liked by anyone. Okay, she might shoot to protect Crichton strictly for strategic purposes.

I don't agree Dennis. Towards the end of the series, D'Argo and John were fairly close. And John and Aeryn were in love. Now if the only allies available were Crace or Rigel, well John is pretty well fooked. Matter of fact, they'd both probably shoot him in the back, right before turning the guns on each other.

As for the earlier comment about armed versus unarmed, I think it's actually backward. Armed I think John would win. Unarmed, I think Mall would beat the holy bejesus out of him. Mal may be a sloppy fighter, but he can soak up alot of punishment and give as good as he gets. Just watch the battles between Mal and The Operative in Serenity. He takes a hellish amount of damage and still comes out on top.

And the fact that he rigs the fight so he has the upper hand...hmmm I may have to change my vote.

Everyone realizes I was being difficult, don't they? It's a frustrating day.

Without anyone to shoot one or the other in the back, I'd give it to John. He learned a lot as he meandered through the galaxy, especially from Aeryn Sun. Mal got lucky, Whedon. The Operative expected honorable tactics and Mal played dirty.

I was not so fond of Farscape after Zhaan left. Chiana didn't interest me much. I still enjoyed the program, though.

Mal only won against the operative through deus ex machina. Chrichton has some serious mettle, he was a greenleaf but he got baptism by fire, however Mal was a soldier and then a pirate plus he'll fight dirtier, Mal wins.

You're damn straight, he got lucky. He almost always falls back on luck and force of will, but he ends up winning all the same.

Mal's a dirty fighter, the kind Han Solo used to be, and because of that he always makes it to tomorrow.

One only has to watch "War Stories," "Out of Gas," or Serenity to see how much of a beating Mal can take and still get right back up and keep fighting. Mal may not always make the brightest decision, but his strength of will is unmatched. Once he sets his mind on something, he's going to follow through or die trying.
