Supergirl!!!!

From the Post Chronicle:

"If Superman Returns does as well as expected this summer then Supergirl will be pushed into the schedule," reveals one movie insider. "There are a few actresses in the reckoning and Mischa (Barton) is at the top of that list."

but will she reveal her supergirl bra underneath the uniform this time...

the whole thing about the supergirl bra is ironic because supergirl doesn't wear a bra.

;)

Superman Returns - Bryan Singer
Supergirl - Uwe Boll

...

It is inevitable!

You know, Supergirl has a certain cheesy charm to it. I always wished that it was a slightly better film that could have warranted some sequels, but it's probably better that it didn't happen. The Salkinds never seemed to be concerned with quality, alas.

If this happens, I hope they strive to make it fit with Singer's continuity and not just go a separate route like with Catwoman.

What's all this talk of a superbra? A movie goof ref?

Course it isn't funny.

But they're hardly going to give Supergirl to someone as talented as Bryan Singer. They don't care about Supergirls film quality.

I think DC is finally figuring it out, while Marvel is dropping the ball.

I'll bet you they'll get someone that really cares about the property, this won't be a rush job.

(oh god you guys are so right, it's going to be Boll...)

That's just it: does anyone really CARE about Supergirl? Was she anyone's favorite comic hero growing up? Did she inspire anyone? I just don't think she's going to get the attention to detail and slavish devotion that the likes of Superman, Batman, and Spider-man received.

Supergirl? For real? If handled correctly, it will still suck. The source material is ridiculous - why not throw Krypto in, and kind of 'Lassie' the flick up a little?

"What's that boy? Kara's stuck in a gravity well?"

The only respectable Supergirl stories I can think of are anything associated with the likes of the Animated Superman series and Justice League etc.

I agree, in fact, there is very little I can find wrong with animated supes, JL, and JLU - other than them getting canceled.

The comics, on the other hand, were terrible. Good lord, even her death in crisis was stupid.

/nice headband there Kara

Blue might enjoy this titbit: When Jim Mooney drew Supergirl, he always penciled her nude and added the costume when inking.

oh and for the record, to everyone that thinks supergirl wouldn't make a good film:

yeah, you're right... teenage girl fish out of water with superpower stories NEVER work. No one would be interested in that.

Blue, you are correct, the formula seems to work. My lack of interest in it is more based upon the derivative nature of the character. For example, I would not be interested in a Bucky or Kid Flash movie. But that's me, and taste is subjective.

AAAGH!! I can't just stand by while this mindwipe is being committed!

Unikrunk, Bluebottle is blinded by lust with Supergirl fantasies...and rightly so...I mean, look at the woman.

You keep reading those Doc Frankenstein books. They will not steer you wrong.

But if you must read that Superman / Batman TPB, BORROW it. DO NOT spend hard-earned money on it. SNAP OUT OF IT!!

(and your earlier comments about how useless she is cracked me up...spot on, sir!)

Sorry Blue, not trying to cast any judgements over here, but:

yeah yeah, but i still don't see how he's going to pull off wonder woman with his usual pizazz. I mean, Supergirl fits into his favorite heroin persona, as bluebottle described. Wonder Woman, on the other hand (even though I realize she's supposed to be all feminist and amazonian and such), personifies the perpetual curse of female empowerment - stupid wrist cuffs/inescapable subjugation subtext/bondage metaphor

EDIT: anyway, there's always time after wonder woman :-D

Oh, there's no disputing that.

If Helen Slater went the rest of her career wearing the Supergirl outfit...

Well, she might still have a career.

Indeed, this is good news. I hope it goes forward. In some ways, I actually like the Helen Slater Supergirl, but it fell pitifully short. For a while, I thought it would make for a cool tv series. Kinda like Superboy, which isn't as good as Smallville, but made Lois and Clark look like the Lifetime channel show it was. But then again, even the live action Shazam/Isis hour could do that.

I can see the tagline for the new Supergirl movie right here: Now THIS is Girl Power

Cheesy perhaps, but it fits, even if it might bring back bad Spice Girl memories.........

I've just started reading the supergirl comic. And so far I like it. That last one was just awesome. I just hope the movie is as awesome oh and they keep the mini super skirt.

I don't like the costume and Ma Kent never would have made it. It's so impractical with the sleeves hanging down onto her hands. Also, you can nearly see her cooter.

You know what I never understood in the movie? Clark Kent wears glasses to hide his identity as Superman. Not really believable, but if you don't think about it too hard it makes sense. Kara changed her hair color! How does that work? I didn't realize salon care was part of her repertoire!
