Wow, do I hate Diddy!! He's the asshole who acquired $350 million by talking really loudly while I was trying to listen to great Sting and Led Zeppelin recordings. I hope Katrina doubles back to drown his talentless hinder in the Atlantic.

MTV is letting Diddy host the VMAs this year. Because he's such

Indeed. I've always wondered, despite his self-appointed titles of "Rap Impresario" and "Mogul" and giving himself a new name every few months (which is a step below peeing on puppies in the Scale of Uncoolness), what exactly he's done to merit being famous.

I don't think Diddy's a big deal. They got him to host because they want the show to be more like a "bash" than an actual show, and since he throws parties, they were hoping he'd give off that vibe. Obviously Chris Rock or Jimmy Fallon or even Jamie Foxx would make better emcees, but I think last year they ended up not having a host and they thought it worked better; less variables or something, I don't know. I only caught bits and pieces of tonight's show but it seemed to work okay. Typical VMA fare: if you like it, you'll like it, if you don't, you wouldn't.

As for Diddy's music, eh.

EMOTICON!!!!!

American Idiot is an album that will be around for the next century. I would rank it up there with the protest songs of the 60s as far as providing a snapshot in time.

I'm glad they won big tonight. Even in a time of Lohans/Hiltons/Duffs and Mike Jones/Ying Yang/Lil Jon crap, it is good that MTV recognized Green Day.

Also if you find yourself near a TV tonight, the Charlie Rose with Kanye West will be one and it is one of the funniest interviews you'll see. That fucker Rose has no idea who Kanye is and being the worst interviewer on the planet, doesn't give Cheddar the chance to answer.

I'm going to watch it again because they've got Jay-Z and Alicia Keys also on tonight.

I don't agree with your assesment of Greenday at all dude. I don't know anyone personally who dresses like them or listens to them, I think it'll be forgotten by next year.

Actually I was serious. Dookie was an amazing record. Fucking teenage energy piping out my speakers. I loved it.

American Idiot is a great great album to me. Same great music but this time with intelligent lyrics that paint a picture of the indecision in all of us. Am I unAmerican just because I think our President is an idiot?

Yes I think they are overexposed with this album and I don't buy the "rock opera" angle that has been shovelled down our throats, but damn if I don't really enjoy that album. Every track.

To each his own.

To me, American Idiot represents the failure of musicians to try anything different these days. Greenday and the other pop-punk bands all follow the same formulaic power-chord songs that dominate the radio today. Pop in a Zeppelin album and the two simply don't compare, even lyric wise to me.

What the fuck was up with that R. Kelly "performance"? That had to be hands down the most bizarre thing I've seen on televison all year. Actually, I think it may be tied with the H3 commercial. What the hell? A giant lizard-thing and a giant robot? And they have a baby? And it's an H3? Who okayed that?

Diddy, as I've heard he likes to be called these days, isn't totally to blame for that one. I'm sure that Plant, Page, and Jones enjoyed spending that studly check. All they had to do is bend over and say "Sure Puff, we would love to have you musically rape one of the greatest Rock songs of all time." Don't let them off the hook so easily...

For the same reason that we have Bewitched in the theatres and I Dream of Jeanie in the works. Total lack of originality and talent. So steal others ideas. If it's familiar to Americans we'll eat it up.

well, i got a little burrned by the oil the first time.y'know, because the damn thing was so hot. the skin on my nutsack was so sensitive, and the pain so intense, that i went into kind of a state of relaxed hypnosis, sort of like shock. but in my mind, it was like the beginning of act 4 in 2001.

Green Day is teh suck.
I'm not sure if i can explain why i think that way, but maybe the eye shadow and the reject michael jackson cloths and the "attitude" of Billy Joe Whatshisname might have something to do with it. they just don't seem genuine to me.

WHAT THE FUCK WAS R. KELLY DOING LAST NIGHT?!!

That had to be the single WORST live performance I've ever seen!

Okay, if the guy's trying to do one-man musical theater, he should a) know how to act, b) know how to act as multiple characters, and c) maybe try lip-sync ALL THE WORDS, if you insist on lip-syncing at all!! Seriously, the guy would just stop moving his mouth for a bit, then remember he's on stage in front of an assload of people. BAD, BAD, BAD.

I thought most of the "Diddy" moments were pretty good, the opening quite strong. Then they settled into the normal suckage, as usual. However, ending on a wet, hot Kelly Clarkson was a nice touch.

Anyone else really dig all those GAP adds?
