You know, that really wasn't that bad. It sounds like they actually got Doakes to come in and re-read his own lines for the dub, which makes it sound a bit more natural. The bad part will be when we see him blatantly saying "fuckin" instead of "friggin." Which brings me to my next point, thank god they went with "Friggin" instead of "flippin" or something equally pathetic.

Well, so long as people who haven't had a chance to see this on Showtime get their shot on broadcast, I'm happy. It's a great show and it'll clean up in the ratings I think.

It's finally coming on English terrestrial TV.

Considering I've got a viewing figures box, this show is gone go through the rizzoof.

Season 2 Rocked!

You know, I have to say that I love the fact that Dexter has no "filler" episodes. Each episode delivers something significant to the plot. (Thanks for the warning about the nudity... it got to be a little much for my wife.) I can't wait until Season 3![/quote]

this isn't very good news. i hope they can keep their momentum going nonetheless.

ironic that their showrunner is moving from one SFU brother's new show to the other one's new show.

Yah, I'm not happy about that. But I always like to think of God of War. The second game was directed by the first game's art director, because the original director left. It was a far superior game. Might not be very BAD news after all...

Nothing from me on the producer jumping shows. I just want to mock Harry for running half-price offers on HD-DVD titles at the end of the story.

Holy shit! That's good news.

Class actors playing off each other, there's nothing better.

With the loss of one of my favourite character at the end of last series (I won't say who, in case you haven't done series 2 yet), it's nice to have a brilliant actor to fill the gap.

Of course, no-one can fill the last persons shoes.

He will be in ten of the 12 shows in the third season. He won't be playing a cop this time, but an "ambitious, charismatic assistant district attorney" named Miguel Prado,.He's also part of a powerful political family which is well-loved in the state of Florida. Dexter will reportedly come into close contact with Prado, helping him in his law and order crackdown. Of course, Dexter will have to make sure that Prado doesn't find out about his nefarious moonlighting.

It's an excellent show. At first I thought I was going to have a hard time 'adjusting' to Michael C. Hall's character. I was so accustomed to his character in 6 Feet Under, I just couldn't picture him playing this psychotic forensic specialist. Well, that theory went out the door after the first episode of Dexter. He is just that brilliant of an actor he can dive into any role and become that person.

See, Dexter was my idea for a show but the studio's nicked it when I sent it off.

Should have copyrighted it as well, it was soooo much better that this, even though the show Dexter is awesome.

And I invented cinematic RPGs in the early 90's, but no one listened to me, either.

Speaking of Dexter, has anyone else here read Dexter in the Dark? Yah, as much as there was absolutely NO WAY they would do Dearly Devoted Dexter as the second season, there is absolutely NO WAY they will do DitD as S3. The show and the novels have taken such completely different turns that they just can't do it now. Where the show has become somewhat philosophical, the novels have become very much supernatural.

Honestly, this is not a bad thing in the least. It means I get two versions of a fantastic character.

See, my original idea, and I didn't know about the books, was that the Dexter character was actually a pedophile but his mother taught him not to molest kids who were good.

He ends up working in the Pedophile division of the MET and there he can use his powers again the kids of the world to help make the world a better place. But I must strongly stress that he only molest kids there were very bad - almost like an inverse Santa.

Season 3 preview - not too spoilerish, Jimmy Smitt's Moustache features heavily, maybe a little underwhelming (the teaser itself, not the moustache, which is glorious), but I'm excited for the series return at the end of September.

Thank you Tape,

You've made my bank holiday weekend.

I wouldn't say the teaser was underwhelming since anyone who's been through season 2 will know that Dex takes a while to warm up.

Interesting references there to Faith, Dexters Morals and the Student becoming the Master. Could be Red Herrings?

Yeah I watched it last night. It was a good episode but a lot of it felt like pure exposition to get the storylines where they wanted them this season.

Jimmy Smits is going to be an awesome addition.

Im not sold on the Quinn/Internal Affairs storyline as it seems it's only purpose will to get Deb her shield.

The 2 main cases seem to be interesting though and Im curious to see where they go.

My guess is that Deb or Batista will end up getting on Dexter's tail this season.

Man, I would like a season without anyone on Dexter's tail. I had enough of that last season and it stretched the limits of plausibility. I agree about Smits, though. He was fantastic last night.

Had a long conversation with my partner last night about Smits role this season, and since Dexter (the SOCIOPATH) has decided to revise his code, I am hoping that Smits serves as a mentor to keep Dexter grounded, otherwise (realistically) Dexter would escalate his pass time into something truly dangerous. Perhaps Dexter will start to slide too far over the edge and Smits' influence will bring him back around. To me, this sounds like an interesting story that could flesh out Dexter's lack of morale balance... especially now that he has so much to lose.

finally caught up with the first episode. i'd say it's off to a good start. it was a little awkward the way that one new guy (the one the IA is investigating) was just shoehorned in like he'd always been there, but at least it wasn't nikki/paolo bad. still, it would've been more interesting if the guy was someone we already had an investment in, like angel or masouka... but maybe there are story reasons we'll find out later why that wouldn't work. i'm not sure where they're going with the show's story arc this season, there's gotta be more to it than just this drug dealer they're hunting down and jimmy smits. but i'm interested in seeing what exactly the "evolution" in dexter's code will end up being.

I thought Dexter flew off the shelf for the first episode.

Straight away he breaks Harry's rules. BRILLIANT!

Judging by M.C.Hall's performance last season, I can imagine some real deep turmoil this season.

SPOILER for the season, you have been warned, worth a read though because this spoiler was accidentally given away in a news report, this should make for an interesting season.

Near-Miss Accident On Set Of "Dexter": Actor Jimmy Smits Mistakenly Stabs Stuntman With Real Knife

Miami, FL (CNS) - A stabbing scene in Showtime's crime drama "Dexter" almost became real after cast member Jimmy Smits accidentally stabbed a stuntman with a real knife.

TV extra Jeff Chase had been bound and gagged as required in the scene with Smits. The script called for the former "NYPD Blue" star to grab a knife and plunge it into Chase's heart.

However, Smits mistakenly grabbed a real knife instead of the prop instrument and hit the extra's heart. Chase was saved only by a piece of acrylic clear plastic that protected his heart.

The Daily Express quotes Chase as he relates the incident, "For the scene, I was bound in Saran Wrap, duct tape over my mouth. I couldn't say a thing as I saw Jimmy grab at the knife. He picked up the real one by pure mistake. It was a mean looking knife."

"I heard fellow actor Michael C. Hall yelling at Jimmy to stop - but it was too late. I felt the thud in my chest. I didn't have on a metal breast plate like a lot of actors do in a scene like that."

"Instead I had a piece of acrylic clear plastic about the size of a Post-it note over my heart. It was a quarter of an inch thick and not attached. In 8 out of 10 takes with the prop knife, Jimmy had missed the plastic. But by a miracle, an act of God, the knife landed at the very edge of the plastic."

Smits was distressed by the incident. He profusely apologized to the stunt man, who graciously accepted the apology.

Chase adds, "I really thought I'd been stabbed in the heart, but I didn't have a scratch. Jimmy was devastated and couldn't stop apologizing. I told him, I felt more sorry for him than me."

Smits signed on to the series' third season. He plays an assistant district attorney who works with Dexter, played by Hall.

i'm so glad i had the good sense to not read this thread before watching the episode. the dynamic between dexter and prado should be really interesting to watch it unfold. i just hope it doesn't mirror too much his relationship with lila, where he grows to trust someone eventually enough to reveal his true self to them. but it looks a lot more like prado will be an annoyance and a hindrance as dexter tries to keep him at arm's length. and prado's hothead brother will be the REAL menace, maybe he'll be the new doakes. now that i'm getting a feeling for where this is going, it's looking good. and I WILL NOT BE TEMPTED BY YOUR SPOILERS, JOHN LOCKE!!!

Episode 2: Oh my fucking GOD!

Brilliant.

The fact that Dexter finally receives acceptance for his work is wonderful. This give Dexter's character a chance to evolve in so many different ways.

I wonder if Prado will find out the rest of Dexters history or whether it will come out Dexter's faux pas?

Man this show is awesome. It's brilliant from the offset.

along with a new "code" dexter is developing new killing techniques. no more blood slide, no more safe room with tape and plastic. perhaps dexter is getting overconfident and careless now. and we all know where that leads.

Yeah, he seems to be going after people with less and less evidence. Are we seeing Dex resort to becoming more primal in nature as he becomes more human?

I like Dexters resilience to Miguel Prado's friendship advances, they do come across a little creepy. I do think that Prado will be put on the spot by Dexter later on though.

I can't get over how amazing this show continues to be... Every season feels better, tighter, smarter than the last.

I am loving this show, and am glad to see my prediction that Smitts would end up being a new mentor for Dexter is come true, but some of the writing in this episode stunk. The whole scene where Deb and Yusuka both get validated by the other detectives was half-assed. AND, I can only see this whole marriage thing ending in sadness. How will Dexter do shit with three kids and a wife around? Maybe next season will be about him having fantasies about killing while he fucks his wife.

The problem with this show is that I only like the Dexter storyline, the supporting characters are poorly written and badly acted. Even Smits doesn't seem to get the tone right, his character is taking Dexter down an interesting path but again it only serves Dexter well.

I still like this show a lot but if they could find a way to have Deb, Batista, Laguerta and Rita leave I'd be very happy.

i like the show, but i'm not as hooked as last year. that season just had incredible momentum. what i do like is how the show attacks a common themes from dexter's warped perspective, for instance, this season so far has been very much about fear of commitment, with dexter having a kid and getting married and seeing the prospect of losing his freedom and independence. what guy doesn't feel that way at some point? except in dexter's case, it's not a fear of having no more guys nights out, or having to give up his hobbies, but rather a fear of not being able to kill any more.
